Hi Terri! I started running in early September of last year and have run three 5Ks since. It gets addictive!! Here's what I listen to on my iPod -- the beats are good to run to. Good Luck! ARCHIVED Menu Recommendations For Pf Chang's?
Maureen73 replied to Molecular Dude's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Yum!!! I LOVE Changs and have never had a bad experience. In our area, right before the holidays they added some new gluten free options to their menu. I love the Changs Spicy Chicken and the Dali Chicken. FYI, the Dali Chicken is really spicy, but good. Also, if you are a vegetarian, they can do the Dali Chicken without the chicken, just potatoes in... -
Hi all -- I was hoping that someone may have a similar experience. I've had celiac for almost 3 years now. I've been very healthy and am very careful in the gluten free foods I eat (no cheating ever!). Since my diagnosis with celiac (it was triggered during my pregnancy), I have also been unable to eat anything containing MSG. Anyway - has...

Hi all -- Ok, I may be really "out there" on this one, but I'm asking anyway At 31 years, I developed celiac during my pregnancy with my 2nd child. As I went gluten free and started healing, I found that if I ate something containing MSG, I felt the same way as when I was "glutened". I have read that a lot of people w/ celiac also are intolerant to...

Maybe we all can e-mail a network with a show suggestion (cooking for those w/ food intolerances, etc). The more we let people know how many of us are out there, the more "mainstream" gluten free will become!!! I tried to find a "contact us" section on Food TV, but there is no way to actually contact them (go figure!). I did find one for Discovery Health...

Hi All - My hubby forwarded this article to me. Not sure if I'd take a drug that allowed me to eat gluten, but it's exciting that there may be one in the near future. Maureen Open Original Shared Link

ARCHIVED Mucous In Poop (sorry! )
Maureen73 replied to Maureen73's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks everyone for all of the info. The night after I ate out, my stomach had stabbing pains and was very bloated, which is why I suspected being glutened). However, that went away. The mucous is the only thing that is still occurring. There's no pain or bleeding, so hopefully it's just my gut's way of reacting to the gluten. Ah, the joys of being... -
ARCHIVED Mucous In Poop (sorry! )
Maureen73 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My apologies for the frank topic title, but I wasn't sure how to make it sound better than it actually is.... I have been gluten free -- no cheating & freakishly careful -- for almost 2 years now. I ate out two weeks ago at a restaurant that had a gluten free menu. I've eaten there before and never had a problem. My issue is that after eating... -
ARCHIVED Quinoa
Maureen73 replied to Samanthasmomma's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I found a really yummy "fake instant oatmeal" made from quinoa. It comes plain, chocolate (which is fantastic) or apple raisin. I found it online at Altiplano Gold. I used to eat instant oatmeal almost every morning and really missed it -- the quinoa is a great substitute. Enjoy! Maureen -
TinkerbellSwt -- Can you give me the name of the doctor at CHOP? I live in Southern NJ and, since my children's pediatrician seems clueless about Celiac, I'm thinking maybe I should just make an appt for the both of them in Philadelphia. Thanks much for for such a great thread everyone!!! I LOVE this message board Maureen

Great posts!!! My question is for the genetic testing, if you did this through your pediatrician, did the pediatrician know what tests to order? My children's doctor said they do not need to be tested, but my gi dr told me they definitely DO need to be tested for celiac. What test(s) do I need to request? My five year old is going in for her annual check...

ARCHIVED Weight Gain On Gluten Free Diet
Maureen73 replied to sluct's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Try to keep in mind that while eating gluten, the villi in your intestines were not absorbing all of the nutrients/food you were eating... That's why we could eat as much as we wanted, but still be really skinny!! I had lost a ton of weight before being diagnosed with Celiac. After I went gluten free, I gained about 15 pounds. After my guts healed, I... -
ARCHIVED Post Diagnosis, Depression
Maureen73 replied to sherylj's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Sheryl, I'm sending hugs your way. I'm so sorry for your loss. You are grieving a loss and it's ok to do so. Feeling sad and grieving are definitely different than depression. Let your emotions out -- maybe write in a journal if you can. Let yourself feel and eventually you will start to heal. Jerry had a good point in suggesting... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Restaurants In King Of Prussia, Pa
Maureen73 replied to mjmooers's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Thanks for sharing the DE restaurant info!!!!! I've been driving to Jules Thin Crust in Doylestown when I want pizza, so I'll have to try this place out (we are in South Jersey -- about 10 minutes from the DE border). Yippee! I haven't been there yet, but Maggianos and Margaret Kuo's both offer gluten free dining. Here's their websites: Open... -
Hi Nicole - I was originally diagnosed with ulcerative colitis before the docs realized I actually had celiac disease. I was on all of the uc meds (colazol, prednisone, etc) but never had any relief. I actually just saw a new gi doctor last week and discussed the diagnosis of uc and celiac. He said that many times, people with celiac present with...

ARCHIVED Please Share Your Stories, I'm So Scared
Maureen73 replied to filmfreak's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Congrats Jessica!! Here's my story -- my 2nd pregnancy actually triggered my celiac. While pregnant with my son Ryan, at the five month mark I began getting really, really sick (you know what I mean). The doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong with me and, since I was pregnant, no one wanted to touch me Anyway - after having "D" everyday... -
ARCHIVED I Have Celiac -- Need To Test My Two Children
Maureen73 posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi all - I'm hoping you have help educate me a bit... I was diagnosed with celiac disease almost two years ago. My daughter, Emma, will be five in February and my son, Ryan, will be two in May. Neither of my children have been tested for celiac as their pediatrician has told me that as they are not presenting "gi problems", they do not need to be tested... -
ARCHIVED Omg! I Just Commercial Bout Celiac!
Maureen73 replied to katrinamaria's topic in Publications & Publicity
I saw the commercial last night and literally sat there with my mouth open!! I couldn't believe someone was talking about gluten on the FOOD NETWORK of all places! How awesome is that?? I love the idea of a gluten free cooking show... We are finally getting into the mainstream little by little. YIPPEE!! Maureen -
Hi there! I totally can relate to what you are going through. It took a good six months for my body to begin "healing" after I was diagnosed. I couldn't understand why, even though I was very careful with what I was eating, I was having all of the symptoms still?! Try to remember that your body is pretty damaged right now and your intestines, etc. need...

ARCHIVED Restaurants In Philly Or Long Island
Maureen73 replied to justme's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
My hubby & I tried Buddakan on Chestnut Street in Philly last month. It's on the pricey side, but it was our "date night" out w/out the kids, so we didn't mind. Just let the server know you need a gluten free menu and they will bring you their listing of what's gluten free (pretty extensive). I'm vegetarian as well and usually don't have a lot... -
ARCHIVED How Do You Know When You Are Back To "normal"
Maureen73 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was very lucky in being quickly diagnosed with Celiac. I was pregnant with my son a year & 1/2 ago and was very ill. After having "D" for 4 months straight and being told it was just pregnancy related, I luckily found a nutritionist at a health food store who told me I should get tested for celiac disease. Sure enough, that was what was wrong. ... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Veggie "burgers"?
Maureen73 replied to Maureen73's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yippee!!! Thank you all for replying! I am lucky as I have a Whole Foods, Wild Oats, Trader Joes & Wegmans within an hour of me, so hopefully one of them has got to carry the burgers!!! I love this message board -- I think I'd starve without it
