ARCHIVED 504 Plan
BZBee replied to Gluten Free Girls's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hmm, I thought 504 plans were for educational modifications. In my school system all health modifications are strictly met with notes from the Dr., and the nurse will train the teachers that have that student. Classes with students having food allergies and intolerances are educated the importance of hand washing and not sharing food. It should fall under... -
My immediate family is trying, and asking me more questions on what I can eat and how to prepare when I come over. My outside family, not so much but I chose to distance myself from them on food occasions. I'm definitely learning who my friends are! Not that I need to have social occasions around food and have absolutely no problem preparing my own, but I...

Interesting topic! I too have a sciatica but I got mine moving something the wrong way. The orthodopedic I saw at the time said I was in the typical category (female over 30). As far as celiac I know all my aches and pains flare up when I'm glutened, but I just figured it was the immune system hitting the weakest areas.

Yes, lots of protein and vitamins. I already made the mistake of pushing myself However, I'm glad my muscles are responding since they've been starving to death for so long. I feel happy that the muscle aches are self induced and not because of malabsorption.

ARCHIVED How Do You Explain Brain-Fog To People
BZBee replied to djs89's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The symptom I hate the most and it's the hardest to overcome. I personally think it's like someone taking a vacuum cleaner to your brain. -
ARCHIVED 48 Hours Into gluten-free Life And Feeling Overwhelmed
BZBee replied to MxMyownsummer's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I noticed that my joint pain went away. I abandoned my elliptical for running on the pavement. I had a meltdown in the middle of Kroger my first gluten-free shopping trip. Now, I'm pretty good at reading food labels without to research for a second opinion. Your kitchen is your shelter, it's everyone else's that's a challenge. -
ARCHIVED Severe Chronic Constipation
BZBee replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yep! And check your vitamin panel. My doc. Said it was rare to have constipation than diarrhea but it didn't change the diagnosis. Your bloodwork and biopsy confirms your disease. I'm finding all of us react in different ways. -
I'll send in my biopsy reports and vitamin deficiency panel for concrete evidence. He can put that in his head.

I really do appreciate my online celiac community. I don't mind eating gluten-free and in many cases I like the gluten-free variations better than the gluten. I definitely prefer it to being sick all the time! It just gets frustrating having to always explain the disease and why I eat the way I do. I just came back from a week away and my hotel didn't...

I'm trying to battle my depression with diet and exercise since medications caused me severe neurological problems. However, the Celiac isolation is making it so hard to combat the blues. I just learned I wasn't invited to family function because they didn't want to worry about my diet (even though I bring my own). This seems to be the trend. My friends don...

ARCHIVED Biopsy Positive- Now Doc Wants Blood Work?
BZBee replied to starrymazed610's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My diagnosis was the backwards approach too. 7 years ago I had issues with bile and my pancreas and my blood work tested negative for Celiac. I was diagnosed with pancreatic insufficiency, IBS, and GERD. flash forward to this year I had an endoscopy because my GERD was out of control. Dr. Says he took 9 biopsies and shown me pictures of my mucosal lesions... -
I've been gluten free for almost 2 months and some symptoms have subsided. However, I can only eat one solid meal a day. I'm still relying on bananas and boost to keep me going. I know my intestines are in ruins and it will take time for them to heal. Anyone else in the same boat? If you were and have gotten better, how long until you could resume a normal...

ARCHIVED Celiac Vs. Gluten Intolerance
BZBee replied to BZBee's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I do think it's silly that these division lines exist. We've all been there when we know there is something wrong with our body and a stranger tells you how you really feel. No one knows your body like you do. I also feel that now I do have a label everything will be contributed to Celiac Disease. Instead of trying to investigate other causes for certain... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Vs. Gluten Intolerance
BZBee posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
One thing I've noticed since my celiac diagnosis is that there seems to be this division between confirmed celiacs and gluten intolerants. I'm new to celiac and I'm only wanting to get well and be well. I've had several conversations with people about the gluten free diet and several of those with gluten intolerance get defensive of their illness. You don... -
ARCHIVED Stomach Flu Or Gluten Episode?
BZBee replied to rehh05's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sounds like the flu. It's hard to tell if it's Celiac or a virus unless your antibodies report normal before they check your CBC levels. Autoimmune diseases white blood count are elevated already so you can never really be sure. However, I would treat it as the flu just to be safe. -
ARCHIVED Anemia/vitamin Deficiency Surprise
BZBee replied to BZBee's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, trial and error! I'm sticking to fresh vegetables, fruit and beans for the time being. It's easier to drink my meals than eat them. I manage one solid meal a day. I remain optimistic :-) -
ARCHIVED Anemia/vitamin Deficiency Surprise
BZBee replied to BZBee's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Work didn't happen today, :-( the pain got worse especially in my legs and feet. I thought my feet were going to break when I stood up. Ugh! I hate Celiac Disease! -
I was feeling really good after a week of bed rest and massive vitamin intake. Then, I returned to work last week and all that energy depleted. I feel like I'm back at square one. I gave up trying to focus so I went to bed to lay down. Moderate muscle and bone aches, brain fog, and extreme exhaustion. I know I didn't have any gluten so I think I'm doing more...

ARCHIVED Cross Contimination Cause Itching?
BZBee replied to jamer's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When I awoke from my endoscopy and my GI Dr. Asked if I had itchy skin I looked at him like, " how does he know that." I never disclosed those symptoms because I assumed it was eczema. He went "aha" and wrote it on my chart and then told me he suspected celiac from the lesions and scaffolding. Since my diagnosis and going gluten free I've noticed less itching... -
ARCHIVED Real Life With celiac disease - Excellent Resource Book
BZBee replied to IrishHeart's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm going to add this to my library, thanks! -
ARCHIVED Cross Contimination Cause Itching?
BZBee replied to jamer's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My scalp is the first thing to itch and then around my knees and upper back. I also get really tired and start bloating out like Im 4 months pregnant. Then everything goes haywire, lol. Starting with neurological issues, cramping and GERD. -
ARCHIVED What Were You First Symptoms To Go Away?
BZBee replied to norman516's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Joint Pain in my hips, knees, and ankles! That went away 2-3 weeks gluten free. Also, bloating and acid reflux went away. -
I've read a lot of posts saying they miss the "old food" but I can honestly say, "I don't." This morning I had buttermilk pancakes and baked fresh biscuits for this weekend. Many of the foods I've baked with gluten free flour and starches I think taste better. Sure, it doesn't have the same aesthetic appearances but as Mom always says, "it will eat the same...

ARCHIVED Can't Trust So Called Gluten Free Menu Items Anymore
BZBee replied to glutego's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I learned the hard way about health food restaurants. Apparently a gluten free diet is a trend. It's good for Celiacs in grocery stores (supply and demand) but you have to stress the importance of cross contamination and your disease when eating out. -
I never thought I'd have this problem. My intestines are in bad shape, and I've lost 40 lbs and keep continuing to lose. The Dr. told me that the intestines need to heal.
