  1. One year check-up today. The results are...normal bloodwork and significant healing in the intestines and esophagus! Something new too...villi was present! I'll get the biopsy report in 2 weeks but this girls kicking celiac butt! If you're new to celiac or struggling you WILL get better. I'm not looking for 100% but a year makes a huge difference. I still...
  2. I'll join, there aren't any local support groups in my area.
  3. I had a reaction. I wouldn't risk it. The side effects are too risky.
  4. No Zoloft! I will tell everyone this as my life long mission. I took it and it caused me three weeks in a wheel chair, 2 months on a walker, then cane and 6 mos. physical therapy. I had parasthesia and muscle weakness in my legs. If you read the fine print this happens to 2% of those who take it. Not worth it!
  5. Did you check your hand soaps and lotions to make sure they're gluten free? What was the last result of your blood tests? Have your antibodies gone down? It could be another intolerance. I know that I'm also lactose intolerant but I can manage small amounts of dairy, but if I have too much I get an upset stomach and the big D. So you might eat a large amount...
  6. Alcohol is hard to digest and with already troubled GI systems it's even harder.
  7. Is Benadryl! My body gave me hives for Christmas. Just a reminder folks, be extra careful visiting friends and family. I thought I was super careful and bam! What are some holiday entertaining secrets beside the usual call the host, bring your own and eat before you go? I'm going to add Benadryl as one of my "always take it with you" items. This girl learned...
  8. Celiac or not my question is...is picking up bagels in your job description?
  9. Exercise is the best medicine for me. I had a very bad neurological response to anxiety/depression meds so I stay away from medicinal treatment. I control mine through diet, exercise, and natural light.
  10. I'm guessing it's the cold virus. Your body maybe trying to cleanse itself.
  11. I hope everything turns ot well. Keep us posted.
  12. Pancreatic trouble, I hope not. Clay color stools are indicative of pancreatic trouble. Believe me you do not want pancreatitis. It's the most horrible thing in the world. If you have pain in the upper back towards the right side that you eventually feel in your upper right quadrant you'll need to go to ER. I describe it as someone taking a power drill into...
  13. Fresh, raw fruit! Mineral oil will work too.

    ARCHIVED Glutened!

Well, it's not as bad as it could be, mostly GI distress. So I refuse to give into the "lazies" today. My workout was brutal but it definitely helped. My rule is no joint pain you continue working out even if it's stretching. Push, push, push.

    ARCHIVED Glutened!

    Grrrrrrrrrr!
  16. I didn't start feeling better until 3 months gluten free and eating only whole foods. My iron levels improved and I began to have more energy. However, I'm still on the uphill battle to recovery. Unfortunately, it takes a lot of time.

    ARCHIVED Joint Pain?!

The biggest surprise I received going gluten free was after two weeks on the diet. The joint pains I had in my hips, knees and ankles completely disappeared! I have not had any trouble with joint pain since even when it rains. So, to answer your question, yes. I'd do low impact exercise until you feel better.

    ARCHIVED Weddings

Eat before you go. I've not had any luck with catered events. I would pick at fruit and veggies.
  20. For borderline low iron take prenatal vitamins, gluten free of course. I take brain strong.
  21. Have you sat down with your parents and asked them how they feel about your disease? The reason I ask this because they may be in denial. They may not want to realize that something is wrong with their daughter, especially when there are genetic links. They may feel guilty because they feel responsible for you being sick. I know it's silly but I've seen many...
  22. I've been gluten free since Feb. and have had similar experiences. They say it's withdraw but I am also Deficient in iron and other vitamins. When the iron levels started improving I started getting more energy. I'll be doing great and then it hits me again. Sadly, it's a process. Hang in there and listen to your body. Also, have they checked your adrenals...
  23. They are ok as long as your friends don't contaminate the chips. Community food is always tricky for us celiacs. Make sure you get yours first or have a separate stash.
  24. Yes it does. Unless their are learning deficits a 504 plan is not needed. A statement from the Dr. Is all that should be required. It's the law that the school follow the guidelines.
  25. Make sure gluten fingers aren't reaching for the same bowl or bag.
