  1. If I were you....I would talk to my regular Dr. since he seems to be on board with the Celiac thing. Let him know exactly what you put in your post about the lack of biopsies and that the GI was an idiot. Then ask him for the Celiac panel blood tests. Do the blood work then after giving the blood for said blood work I would go on a gluten free trial. Depending...
  2. Glad you got it diagnosed! If your pedi dropped the ball on that one I would definitely find a new pedi! Hand, foot and mouth is no fun and is super contagious. And pretty common in little kids.
  3. Thanks guys. Definitely a learning experience. I didn't even know he liked chocolate covered pretzels, he's never shown any interest in them before. I think I will get some pretzels and chocolate and make them with him. I don't understand why my husband said that. He's usually pretty good. Like he knows to check condiments and things we would use to marinate...
  4. We were at the grocery store after school today. We walked down the aisle that has all those serve yourself items...you know, the bulk nuts and candy and such? Yeah....I got a little ahead of him and stopped to wait for him....he comes walking up chewing something. Uh...what? So, I ask him what he's eating. He looks at me with the happiest look on his...
  5. I was really hoping you'd get some answers. Did the doctor suggest anything at all that could be causing this behavior? Or are they just completely blowing off your concerns? Is she eating something new? How long have these symptoms been going on? Have they checked her for dehydration? Maybe the lack of sleep is exacerbating something or maybe...
  6. Oh dear! I hope you're feeling better soon! Like any one of those symptoms aren't bad enough on their own....but then to walk into the door frame along with it. Goodness.
  7. I hear ya. My little guy doesn't really eat meat. He'll eat lunch meat (only ham) and occasionally he'll eat some chicken and he'll eat breakfast sausages or hot dogs. That's pretty much it, though. He only eats certain veggies (willingly) so it can be a battle getting those in him as well. I do give him sausages every morning with his breakfast so he has...
  8. Huh. You have the same screen name (minus the numbers) and I've never seen it anywhere else. Most of my days have been that way lately. Like thinking and doing just take too much effort. It does not bode well for my winter as it definitely gets worse in the winter. *sigh*
  9. Medical words are such a pain. Rashes are just weird. At least it isn't itchy. Hope it goes away soon! And I swear I'm the only person that didn't know Strep could give you a rash! I had it every time I turned around when I was a kid and never ever had a rash. My kids have all had it....no rashes for them either. Oy.
  10. Grating carrots is worse than grating cheese! Well....maybe not. They both have their separate issues but for some reason I make a much bigger mess when I grate carrots than I do when I grate cheese! I know Namaste makes a spice cake mix....but I'm not sure what all is in it and that would probably speed the cake part of it up a little bit. I just wish...
  11. That stinks! And is very ironic. Per chance....are you on Frugal Village?
  12. I miss House too! I don't know if it's the same episode but I've seen it twice...once long before our diagnosis and then once right after our diagnosis. Pretty sure the second time I saw it, I cried. The person on that episode was so sick. It scared me and made me happy that they were showing just how severe it can get (my little guy has never been as...
  13. I get something kind of like that but usually only if I eat immediately after getting up. I generally have to wait about 2 hours before eating a meal after waking up or it makes me sick. Doesn't matter what I eat, either. There is a rare occasion when I wake up starving that I can eat something small and be ok but those times really are very rare. Wish...
  14. Hugs to you! It's complicated even with a diagnosis sometimes. Ah, life. So much fun sometimes! The sausages could have been the culprit. We only eat one brand of sausages here for that reason. That, and I'm picky and find that they're the only ones I like (and that was before we went gluten free!) and they just happened to be gluten free so I definitely...
  15. I made gluten-free brownies for my little guy for my daughter's graduation party this past summer when we were freshly diagnosed. Those were gone before I even got to try one! But I found out later that all of my daughter's wonderful friends refused to eat the cake at the party because little man couldn't and they felt bad. Also explains why I got to make...
  16. I can't imagine adding other food intolerances to the Celiac, though I know it's common. We've just recently restricted milk as he's still having some tummy issues and that seems to have helped. I try to focus on what we can have and not what we can't but I think having his cousins here this week really just made it more obvious that he has to eat different...
  17. It is a lot to process, definitely! I think the lack of sleep really contributed to the meltdown part of it. I did try to bring up how he's feeling better....but I don't think he was ready for that part of it. He doesn't have strong reactions and aside from a tummy ache every day from December/January on he didn't really have any other symptoms. We didn't...
  18. That is the question I had to try and answer for my upset 6 year old tonight. After 3 months he is finally processing all of this. I think there are a few things that started this: 1. He didn't like his supper tonight. Asparagus is just not his thing....even if it is wrapped in bacon. Crazy child! 2. His cousins were in town for the last week...
  19. Showing me that he was wrong and willing to look something up is one of the reasons we've been with our current pediatrician for so long. My oldest son had a crazy rash on just his back. It didn't look familiar to either one of us and he asked me to wait while he got his "rash book" (let me tell you....that book is not very small!) and it ended up being athlete...
  20. We didn't have to remove it entirely from my little guy's diet. Though, obviously if it's a casein issue, that's different. We just restricted his intake. He is allowed to have one small cup (I have some of those tiny juice glasses that are about 4oz) with one meal either breakfast or supper. The other meal he gets some kind of juice and any other time he...
  21. Unless the little one has dermititis herpeteformis (I'm fairly certain I messed that up!) or DH which is directly linked to Celiac and can be used to diagnose it. So long as she finds a dermatologist that knows what they're doing. But I'd be stressed too if my little one had a rash like that and the pedi has no clue! You'd think if the pedi didn't know...
  22. I would ask your pediatrician for a referral to a dermatologist and see if you can get in there sooner than you can the GI doc. If you can get to see the dermatologist sooner and they do things properly she can be diagnosed with Celiac just from DH rash. Good luck mama! Hope you can get in to one soon....that rash does not look fun, poor thing!
  23. Is she still consuming milk based products? From what I've read Celiac's have some issue with milk for a while. I've restricted my 6 year old's milk/cheese intake because he was still getting tummy aches too. Also...if she was having constipation issues that might still be lingering as well. I know we're still using Miralax and doing cleanses every other...
  24. The baking does get a bit overwhelming at first. I love to bake....cook, not so much. My husband was kinda leery about going gluten free as well since he isn't the one to get sick but he's discovered that it's just as good as "normal" food....unless you try to get him to eat the noodles. For whatever reason he won't budge on that one. So, anything with noodles...
  25. Hugs again! You are posting in a way that reminds me of how I felt right after we got the diagnosis. Shortly thereafter I was standing in the grocery store crying. I was overwhelmed and frustrated and angry and just sad for my little guy. Then it dawned on me that he adores fruits and veggies. He already was used to being kind of restricted though...
