ARCHIVED 7 Year Old With Stomach Distress
mommy2krj replied to smpalesh's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Keep asking! Or demanding. Or switch doctors? Or there are labs that will test off of samples you gather at home (I know absolutely nothing about this but I know there are people that got diagnosed that way on here). It took us 6 months and several rounds with the the doctor before anything was done with my kiddo and it took ages to get in to see the... -
ARCHIVED Starting To Wonder If Gluten Is Even My Problem
mommy2krj replied to answerseeker's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was going to also say that maybe it isn't the gluten that is causing this issue. A lot of medications will say in their little fine print warnings that you can have reactions to them up to 12 months later. Maybe this is a reaction to the prednisone? Or it could be a million other things besides Celiac. The joys of this disease, figuring out which reactions... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Time And I Am Trying To Calm My Nerves!
mommy2krj replied to ryo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I was just coming here to see how things went. Glad to see they went....ok. Those masks do smell funny! Glad she was back to herself again rather quickly. -
Hugs to you. It does get easier as you figure out what you can and can't eat. The newbie thread really is very good and any of the threads about dinner or lunches will help too....and give you some ideas for when you're feeling ambitious and what to try something new. Good luck! Feel free to ask questions, we're here and we all have varying levels of knowledge...

ARCHIVED 504 For Freshman In High School
mommy2krj replied to Gluten Free Girls's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I guess it would all depend on the school. I won't go into my experiences because...well....they're depressing and they didn't concern food issues at all. I'm kind of wondering this all myself. We're new to Celiac and what it means with school as it's my 1st grader that has it. On top of that, he's in a new school in a new school district. So, I'm kind... -
ARCHIVED Interplay Between Gluten And Dairy
mommy2krj replied to Kat L's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It's funny because I never really liked cheese at all until I moved in with my husband. He is a cheese junkie as are both my boys, my daughter is pretty much like I was at her age....cheese on pizza is necessary and ok on some sandwiches as long as it's melted! Now though? Now I would miss cheese. I've gone from only liking the nasty processed stuff... -
ARCHIVED Interplay Between Gluten And Dairy
mommy2krj replied to Kat L's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am not diagnosed as lactose intolerant. Nor am I Celiac. My little guy is Celiac though. Now, that being said.... I feel better since going gluten free with my 6 yr old (yup, been tested). Ever since having my daughter 18 (almost 19 years ago, gasp!) I haven't been able to eat ice cream or drink hot chocolate (the mixes from the store). I mean,... -
ARCHIVED Apparently You Guys Were Right, It's All In My Head!
mommy2krj replied to Renegade's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes this....off to see if there are other threads from people that I can help! -
ARCHIVED Apparently You Guys Were Right, It's All In My Head!
mommy2krj replied to Renegade's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
No, I think what is being implied now, is that you're being pigheaded and mean. Noone and I mean, absolutely noone has implied that you're too retarded to cook. She was trying to explain the Paleo diet (look it up) and how most of their stuff is raw barely processed foods and that for someone still having severe issues with their Celiac that it can make... -
ARCHIVED So Frustrated
mommy2krj replied to niese's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hmmm...I've never heard the Marsh thing either....not that that means anything. We're very new to all of this ourselves. My best friend had Crohn's and Ulcerative Colitis. Those meds are INSANELY priced! I remember her telling me how much her medication cost...and she would tell me per pill per day. Crazy. I hope you do get some answers. Sometimes doctors... -
ARCHIVED So Frustrated
mommy2krj replied to niese's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hugs hon! Thanks for clearing that up. I know what you mean about being overwhelmed. I know I was when my son was diagnosed! I've never heard the "anyone who has diarrhea will have flattened villi" line before. Huh. I'm going to assume that the other blood work your new GI ordered is to test vitamin levels and such and the genetic testing which doesn... -
ARCHIVED So Frustrated
mommy2krj replied to niese's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have to say....I'm a bit confused. In one post you said that the new GI ran new Celiac tests. Then someone asked if you have been eating gluten so that these tests come back with the correct response....you said you've been eating gluten for all the tests. Then in the next post I see by you, you say you're going to be staying gluten free until you get these... -
If they are ongoing symptoms that have lasted for a while I would suggest she take her to the pediatrician to see if they can narrow down causes. Sudden separation anxiety and stomach issues can be red flags for a lot of different things and that spectrum stretches pretty far and wide. I would definitely start at the pediatrician and have them do a work...

ARCHIVED Biopsy Time And I Am Trying To Calm My Nerves!
mommy2krj replied to ryo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That is how I was with my little guy. Yes, I was worried about the biopsy but the fact that I wasn't sure if I was feeding my kid what essentially to his body was poison....that was making me crazy! He's doing better now that we're gluten free. We've had some bumps...like when the neighbor kids insist on bring their junk food outside and feeding the neighborhood... -
ARCHIVED Apparently You Guys Were Right, It's All In My Head!
mommy2krj replied to Renegade's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well....that is the joy of figuring these things out. I would say, given the fact that a large portion of the people here went 20, 30+ years having symptoms before they got diagnosed....you're right on track! But seriously. No one here ever said anything was in your head. You were given good advice. Your choice if you follow it or not. Saying you dropped... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Time And I Am Trying To Calm My Nerves!
mommy2krj replied to ryo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Well...I guess it would all depend on the child. My 6 year old Celiac child is my trooper. He likes the doctor and is extremely curious about anything and everything that is going on. He has to know or that is when he starts to freak out. We get some funny, amazed looks from so many nurses. I do make it a point to explain to the nurses that telling him... -
ARCHIVED School Lunch Planning
mommy2krj replied to ryo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I've been stressing over lunch ever since we had to go gluten free....but that is simply because lunch is always an issue for me. Or maybe it's simply because I suck at planning and end up running out of ideas and I don't eat a big lunch but my husband and both my boys do so they're starving when I'm not even hungry. Ah...it can be a vicious cycle sometimes... -
ARCHIVED What Are Your First Symptoms When You Get Glutened
mommy2krj replied to Nadia2009's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hmmm..... My son, so far, has been glutened twice. Both times he was weepy. Just a giant ball of weepiness. Followed by an attitude suitable for a 15 year old! Along with that, the first time he was constantly in the bathroom all morning (the next day) but the second time it was just the emotional roller coaster. Though, the amounts of gluten eaten were... -
ARCHIVED Sanity Check - Diagnosis Of 'early Celiac'
mommy2krj replied to ragtag's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That is wonderful! I'm glad you are starting to feel better and are on the road to recovery. -
ARCHIVED Sad, Frustrated, Need Support
mommy2krj replied to argybargy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Good to know, thanks! I believe the one I used was the Namaste brand. Even the licking of the mixer/bowl was wonderful! Which is all I got. I'm curious to know what the end product tasted like so I will have to get some more. I will also have to try the Betty Crocker one...it's probably cheaper. -
ARCHIVED Organic Wheat = Gluten-Free?
mommy2krj replied to SteffiW's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That's what I was just going to say. They mix all the "healthy" stuff together. While it can be aggravating....at least I don't have to go far for the organic stuff I'm also looking for. -
ARCHIVED Sad, Frustrated, Need Support
mommy2krj replied to argybargy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh yes...the brownies! My goodness...I made a batch of brownies from a gluten free mix for my little guy for at his sister's graduation party. They were gone in a flash...I never even got to try one! So, while I, personally, can't tell you if they're any good....my brother and several teenagers and other people at the graduation party said the brownies were... -
ARCHIVED Unable To Cry
mommy2krj replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You can't because you're physically unable to? Or because it just won't happen? If it's the former....there is at least one medical condition that I've heard of but can't tell you off the top of my head so I would put a call (yes, I know, ANOTHER call to the doctor) in to your regular doc and explain that to them. If it's the latter....well.....I... -
ARCHIVED Well I'm Officially A Mess
mommy2krj replied to Renegade's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh. Oh that really stinks! Right now we're handling going gluten free ok....but given the amount of onions and garlic we use....I think that would be much, MUCH more difficult! Glad you're feeling better though. -
I think with the skin scratch tests, it's not so much if you turn red as it is with the amount of swelling. At least that is what I got from it when we did my sons'. If they based it on the redness...my oldest would be allergic to everything while my little guy, not so much. But since they looked more at the swelling, my oldest son has a slight (they...
