ARCHIVED Need Help Please
mommy2krj replied to MommyOfTwinkies<3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hugs Mama! It can be so overwhelming and confusing and after a while I got angry too. Please read the links everyone has provided. They are extremely helpful. My 6 year old was just diagnosed in July so I'm just getting (barely!) past the overwhelming part. There have been several instances of tears and frustration in the grocery store. :/ Load her up... -
ARCHIVED 3 Year Old Acts "drunk" For Hours: Symptom?
mommy2krj replied to D-borealis's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
This. Sooo this. I hate it when doctors act like that! :/ Hope you can get to the root of it and it turns out to be something minor and easy to deal with. -
ARCHIVED 3 Year Old Acts "drunk" For Hours: Symptom?
mommy2krj replied to D-borealis's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
See...I was thinking something along the lines of blood sugar or seizures as well. I don't think I'd be comfortable with my doctor brushing that off, even if it is a symptom of ingesting gluten....I would want it investigated fully, just in case. I've always heard that slurred speech, in anyone who isn't drinking alcohol, is a cause for concern. Always... -
I guess you just have to ask yourself if it's worth it. Is it worth it to you to eat the stuff with gluten in it and then get sick and miss work? Is it worth it to eat it and then feel terrible about yourself because you know you ate something that makes you sick? Believe me, I understand. My youngest child was diagnosed with Celiac. My oldest son tested...

ARCHIVED 3 Year Old Acts "drunk" For Hours: Symptom?
mommy2krj replied to D-borealis's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yep, I would call and get an appointment with the doctor ASAP. 3 year olds acting weird isn't unusual. 3 year olds slurring their words is unusual and cause for alarm. Especially if accompanied by decreased motor skills. That would definitely freak me out. Was this a symptom when she was getting glutened before? Or has it just started? Lack of sleep can... -
ARCHIVED Haven't Posted In A Long While, But Wanted To Give An Update.......
mommy2krj replied to rami's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That is wonderful! Thank you for sharing that. Sometimes, just knowing that someone has been there and through it can help. We've been gluten free since July and that first month was insanely overwhelming. To the point of tears at the grocery store. I still get frustrated sometimes but seeing the difference in both my boys makes it worth it. -
ARCHIVED Just When I Thought I Was Getting My Act Together...
mommy2krj replied to africanqueen99's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hugs mama! My youngest is the diagnosed Celiac in our house as well except his siblings are 15 and 19 years old. I thought it was going to be a much bigger battle with the 15 year old than it has been. I'm thinking that's because HE is feeling better too since we've gone gluten free. His grades are picking up and he's less angry. My youngest was my... -
ARCHIVED What Could This Be, I Need To Help A Friend Figure Out What She Has
mommy2krj replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I would say the same as above, get in to the doc asap an endless period is not normal. Losing weight and hair loss would sound like thyroid issues. But the period thing throws me a bit and makes me concerned. -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Time And I Am Trying To Calm My Nerves!
mommy2krj replied to ryo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That does sound quite unpleasant. All 3 of my kids have been under general, more than once, and we've never had that problem. Hmmm....I wouldn't want to go under if that's what I knew I was waking up to either! I don't think my little guy was fully under for his scope though....it literally took less than 20 minutes from the time he went back to them... -
ARCHIVED Help Behaviour Problems
mommy2krj replied to belindaaus's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Oh goodness! Poor thing. Hope she's feeling better soon. Wish I knew something to ease the symptoms. My little guy when he gets glutened.....first he starts getting weepy. You know, the whole my brother looked at me when I didn't want him to and the sky is blue today and I got my favorite treat but not at the right time and now all I can do is cry, kind... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Time And I Am Trying To Calm My Nerves!
mommy2krj replied to ryo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would assume it is definitely an age thing. They are sticking a tube down their throats and little kids have a big tendency to over react and flail about. My son was asleep for a total of 15 minutes I think. I know it was barely 20 minutes start to finish. -
ARCHIVED 2 Year Old Screaming At Food, Please Help Us!
mommy2krj replied to feex1982x's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Awww....the poor thing! I thought I'd ask about the eating for anyone else. Sometimes kids are weird like that. Even when they're distressed. Sounds like you have a good handle on what is going on....an OT eating specialist sounds like a good idea. They probably have better ideas, too. Hope you get it all figured out. -
ARCHIVED 2 Year Old Screaming At Food, Please Help Us!
mommy2krj replied to feex1982x's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That's an interesting idea! I never would have thought of that. Probably because the idea of drinking anything other than a fruit (like a smoothie) kind of grosses me out. I don't really know why though....probably has something to do with having worked in a nursing home and having to thicken liquids and all that kind of stuff. I could see trying that with... -
ARCHIVED 2 Year Old Screaming At Food, Please Help Us!
mommy2krj replied to feex1982x's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hugs mama. Wish I had more advice but I'm drained tonight. Maybe a nice long chat with the daycare. Unfortunately they can't all handle feeding issues......some just simply don't have the patience, while others simply have too many kids. Good luck! It breaks my heart thinking about the poor little guy screaming like that. Curious, does he eat for... -
ARCHIVED Trying Gluten-Free Oats
mommy2krj replied to greenbeanie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I haven't tried them yet either. Having just started in July with all of this....they make me nervous. But.....my little guy is still having issues with his stomach. I think I may have to remove dairy from his diet for a bit and see if that helps. *sigh* I was hoping to try the oats soon since we're going into fall now and winter will be here and we used... -

mommy2krj replied to feex1982x's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hugs. Huge hugs. Having a child that is beyond picky can be a strain on everyone (both parents and daycare providers!) Hmmmm....this is a hard one though. So, he likes crunchy. Here is what I would try to do (after getting his iron levels tested...my older son ate pebbles and that's how we found out he was iron deficient!) I would either get some... -
ARCHIVED What To Do When Glutened....
mommy2krj replied to mommy2krj's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
He was diagnosed in July....so definitely still healing. I can do milk in small amounts....like a cup at a time. Chocolate milk is my most recent reaction and it was a very strong reaction so I haven't tried it again. I'd had a cup of regular milk and then had a small bottle of chocolate milk and probably some cheese with supper too. I did figure out that... -
ARCHIVED What To Do When Glutened....
mommy2krj replied to mommy2krj's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh, and thank you shadowicewolf.....you're always there with a comforting word and able to get me thinking rationally again. I really appreciate it! I try not to panic over every little thing but this is kind of leaving me a little lost. -
ARCHIVED What To Do When Glutened....
mommy2krj replied to mommy2krj's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm still trying to pin things down. He's still complaining a lot about his stomach and his head and other aches and pains. He's had joint pains that seemed to clear up when we first started going gluten free but they come and go now. I'm not sure on the growing pains part. I don't remember my older two having anything like that and he is the smallest of... -
ARCHIVED Walmart Now Has Bales Of Hay?
mommy2krj replied to seraphim's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't know your posts from anyone else's posts. However, it is a decision you and your hubby need to make. I see your question and while, yes, it does seem a little over the top fear wise....but if I think about it a little bit....it does have some validity. I can see, if you're in the store and the hay is in the store (and yes, I've seen these at my... -
My 6 year old is the diagnosed Celiac here. I thought we've been doing pretty good but now I'm not so sure. His general complaints after eating gluten are usually a stomach ache and a headache. Generally, and those are the ones *he* notices. I've noticed he gets very weepy and then very angry. However, he's been having some other random pains lately...

ARCHIVED The Kindness Of Others...
mommy2krj replied to ryo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't know how to handle this either, so I am looking forward to the replies. It's heartwarming that the mom cared enough to attempt to do all the gluten free stuff (some of that can be super intimidating if you don't cook/bake normally and sometimes, even if you do!) but heartbreaking at the same time due to all the cross contamination worries. ... -
ARCHIVED Weird Question But-Mosquito Bites?
mommy2krj replied to seraphim's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yeah, we came home from up north and the bites here weren't any better. There's a hole in the screen in my boys' room so mosquitoes are getting in and he came down and showed me the new bites. Good grief! Poor kid was going crazy with the itching! And this is a 15 year old teenage boy who has had athlete's foot on his hands and arms! I think he went through... -
ARCHIVED Weird Question But-Mosquito Bites?
mommy2krj replied to seraphim's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I find this question interesting for a number of reasons. My oldest, my daughter, when she was little would swell up so bad from mosquito bites. She outgrew that and they don't seem to bother her anymore...at least not anymore than anyone else. My youngest doesn't seem any more or less affected by mosquitoes either before or after going gluten free... -
ARCHIVED Wipes Vs Hand Sanitizer
mommy2krj replied to Rebekka's mom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Oh...I never thought of that! And yes, I agree....wipes are better than sanitizer. Of course, I'd go for the wipes over the hand sanitizer regardless....I can't stand the stuff myself. Gives me migraines. And I don't want my 6 year old using it either. I about fell over when I ate lunch with him last year and saw how they lined the kids up as they were...
