ARCHIVED Gluten Free Ground Turkey Without Natural Flavoring?
seraphim replied to seraphim's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've been staying away from spices and working on my nutrition due to problems I've been having. Spices might give me trouble with the issues I've been having. So it's out for me for now unfortunately. I really wanted ground turkey but it looks like it's hard to find..shadybrook farms ground turkey has rosemary as well. I just want some ground turkey darn... -

Called Jennie-O just now and she said that natural flavoring will always refer to a spice or seasoning. When i asked her about what was in the ground turkey she said rosemary That's out for me at the moment. Maybe someday! -
ARCHIVED For Those Who Use Cast Iron Cookware

So do you use steel wool on it to make sure everything is off? And when you re-season with oil the oil doesn't go bad? Also can I use whatever oil i'd like? like rice bran or sunflower? -

I've been a little confused about how to wash it and make sure there is no bacteria etc. The oil being left on it to season it etc...no idea about the science behind it as I've always used everyday cookware that you just scrub clean. -
ARCHIVED For Those Who Use Cast Iron Cookware

I have never had a cast iron pan myself. I think my grandparents did through out my growing up but i know nothing myself of seasoning it and taking care of it. I'd really like to start using it as I'm quite sure I don't get enough iron in my diet. I have been looking at some pans...many are pre-seasoned. One uses a soy based vegetable oil and it got me thinking... -

Quite possibly yeah. Probably ground the turkey but want it to keep more of it's flavor so they place it back in? We'll see what they say I'll give them a call. -

Only realized the natural flavoring since jennie-o closed on friday so I'm gonna call tomorrow Thanks for letting me know that I had no idea sometimes that that's all natural flavoring means.. Good suggestion on the Muslim meat store I never would have thought of that! -

I'm sensitive to a few things right now and I wanted to start eating ground turkey but found that companies like jennie-o have natural flavoring listed in the ingredients. Does anyone know of a place where i can order just the plain meat online? Like omaha steaks does for a few things? Or a grocery store company that's just...the meat? Thanks. -
ARCHIVED How To Know You Need Digestive Enzymes?

Gemini what blood tests do you ask for to test pancreatic enzymes? I might get this done. -
ARCHIVED Starting To Wonder If Gluten Is Even My Problem
seraphim replied to answerseeker's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hang in there. There is definitely a lot of crazy stuff that can pop up after going gluten free. You could always check into casein, nightshades, amines, salicylates...any number of things that pop up and become unmasked once gluten is taken out of the equation. And, it could be possible it's not gluten I guess but I wouldn't risk re-adding it at this point... -

I agree....doctors do the same with thyroid medications and the ones that help better. -

I'm doing 23andme test at the moment which is genetic testing but I have no idea if they look for celiac genes. What would I request for a blood test for that? -

Because I'd been gluten free already and too sick I didn't think at the time that it mattered. It was long before I ever learned a lot more about it and how you can't test properly after the fact. I couldn't fathom stuffing my face with gluten with how sick i was so I never did the gluten challenge. The official diagnosis isn't important to me now. The outcome... -

Wasn't implying that you didn't help me at all. And I never had a celiac panel done. Therefore may I just be gluten intolerant yes. I can't say I have celiac but I nor you can say I don't either. We don't know. I didn't pick or choose anything. You can say i might not have celiac. You cannot say "you do not". I've never had testing. And when did I say my... -

That's the weird thing though...it did nothing to my lips but my fingers and feet got swellings and i got hives. Then they kept coming back every so many days after the initial attack for about 3 weeks. It happened about 20 minutes after using the lip gloss. Sure has me scratching my head. -

By reactions I mean intense prickly itching on my fingers causing me to rub them together and a couple fingers swelling slightly. Same reaction I had with the lipgloss. And like the swelling on the bottom of my foot with the milk. -

No they haven't. Seems ridiculous anyone would have to go to such lengths I dunno why they couldn't just run the place better than that...it's an allergy specialist I mean...SHEESH! I went to see her originally about my lipgloss reaction but she decided to send me for food and environmental panels and while i was in the waiting room one of my reactions happened... -

Interesting read I gotta say but scary confusing. I don't know what to think. Either way i should stay away from milk at least for now IF it's an intolerance but...between that cramping and the foot swelling. What do you make of that? I gave up dairy a year ago because i figured it might be a problem...was dizzy etc. But no cramping at that time not until... -

Just opened the link..about to read but wanted to say now that i think about it.....i used the washroom while at the allergists as did my husband and in both the bathrooms we were in they had air freshener...this is a place for asthma and allergies. When we went into her office for consultation..even though the sign said no food or drink...there were crumbs... -

Can't find it on the facebook page now except allergies being in this long list and it's differentiated from intolerance: Open Original Shared Link I saw it mentioned in posts before too. Also found this where someone mentioned reading an article about it themselves: Open Original Shared Link -

No you might as well go ahead...the thread is so derailed now and i'm not wondering about the supplement anymore anyhow. I can try and find you the info but Gena Lee Nolin's Thyroid Sexy facebook page mentioned the allergy thing quite a few times and the crowd over there is pretty knowledgeable so i figured they knew what they were talking about. Forgot to add I wasn't saying you were picking it apart. That's more about the topic getting off track when it's not what i asked about and being told i don't know the difference between allergy and intolerance when i DO know they are not the same. mmmm quesadilla i'd give anything to have one. I do have an epipen. What about the swelling on my foot? How are we ever suppose to know when there is a true allergy then? And why is a doctor from Mt. Sinai giving me so called bad advice? -

Yeah the thing was I didn't post on here to argue about allergies but plenty of people here have to stay completely away from dairy due to intolerance anyhow so i thought it might be a place for some useful info. The other people I talked to aren't on a forum..I can't find any good allergy forums....it's just people i know with milk allergy but they don't...
