  1. There is a good recipe for bisuits in The Gluten Free Kitchen by Roben Ryberg (kind of long to type out at the moment), but I do not like her cake recipe. There is a good yellow lemon cake from The Gluten Free Gourmet revised, and I usually would turn it into a pineapple upside down cake. I found a yellow velvet cake recipe in More from the Gluten-free...
  2. Hi, I just came back from a Royal Carb. cruise Aug 28th to the Caribbean. I am on a gluten-free diet as well as dairy and egg free. They did a great job accomadating me, though, obviously, I did not get to eat the frozen yogurt or flourless desserts. But, they did have me pick my meals the night before so they could set it aside (so no spices, etc)...
  3. Sorry for the mass # of postings, but I found my email response from Tylenol (knew I had contacted them a while ago....just started an email folder specifically for gluten-free inquiries) Here was there response (April 2005) Thank you for visiting our website. We hope you became more familiar with our MYLANTA products during your visit to the site...
  4. I will post some more emails for you all interested in knowing more about mainstream soaps - below are responses from Dial, Colgate, Avalon Natural Products, and Listerine. Listerine (April 2005): Thank you for your interest in Listerine. We do not specifically test for the presence of gluten in our products. Therefore, we cannot certify them to be...
  5. What may interest some of you though is that Lactaid is not quarenteed to be gluten-free. I had emailed them back when I was still eating dairy (have since given up). I will copy and paste the email below (please note: I had specifically asked them about lactaid in the pill form and this was their response). Thanks for contacting us again. LACTAID...
  6. I will email (and call) Chapstick and Tylenol. I had heard that both were gluten-free, and I think that list was originally on the celiac.com website. I know that Colgate is gluten free (I had emailed the company that makes that, checking about other products). I use Burt Bee's lip glosses and they seem fine. Also, about the gluten-free shampoo/lotions...
  7. Have you ever tried eliminating corn? Sorry for those of you that have read my recent posts - a bit redundant. I eliminated it this week and it seems to have helped me (that is, until this afternoon when I made a mistake and accidently ate some). Most of my gluten-free cereals and snacks had corn in them, and, of course, corn syrup and starch are so ubiquitous...
  8. Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has read anything about allergies in people with celiac disease. Based on my experience and reading the experiences of others in this forum, it seems that we may be more suceptible to allergies than the general population. Is this b/c our immune systmes are somewhat compromised (that is, if we haven't been gluten-free...
  9. Your diet sounds similar to mine, and I was still getting sick (this past week in particular). So, out of ideas, I thought of corn - I avoided corn as best I could (not sure if it is in Yasmin or Synthroid, both of which I take) and noticed a difference in a few days. Maybe this will help?? I have been hearing a lot recently about potato/Nightshade family...
  10. I know that Whole Foods in Atlanta does carry these gluten-free items. However, in respone to an earlier question, they do not appear to be dairy or egg free. Not sure about potatoes. I wrote to the cooperation about this, telling them I appreciated what they were doing, but hoping they may consider other allergies as well....... We'll see.
  11. I used to get dizziness and ringing in my ear ..... seemed to be associated with my headaches, which, I now know, were caused by a gluten reaction. I'd like to see what others have to say as well. I hope it clears up for you!
  12. If you all are looking for some good, gluten-free meat, try Wellshire Farms. They use a little labeling block on their packaging that will have a "gluten-free" for gluten free, as well as "SF" and "DF" for soy and dairy free. They make all kinds of sausages (some made with turkey or chicken, as well as pork), hams, burgers, etc. I have had great luck with...
  13. Thanks for writing back: soybeans, coconut sugar, sea salt, water, spices, yeast extract..... I was very bad for trying it with the "spice" listing, but I have never had a problem with that. Maybe there is a grain alcohol used in the yeast extract?? The sauce is produced in Indonesia......not sure if that makes my chances better or not. However, I...
  14. Hi, Its embarrassing, but for the sake of community and knowledge, I have been losing my hair as well (girl in her 20s). It seems to have slowed though being on my gluten-free diet, though I have made some mistakes and I am starting to think that I have allergies to other things as well. Maybe after all allergens are removed from the diet, this will...
  15. San-J makes a good wheat free tamari (soy sauce). Does anyone know about Bali Spice brand? Just posted this question as a new topic.
  16. Has anyone ever tried Bali Spice soy sauce? Based on the ingrediants, it appears to be gluten and corn free.....just tried some, but I am not feeling too well right now.
  17. Hi again, Sorry, didn't notice that your email was from April. Well, if you end up in Athens again, I forgot to mention that both Earth Fare and Kroger have frozen meals as well that are gluten free (Amy's Kitchen brand). Hope the trip went well.
  18. Hi, I lived in Athens for over a year and I would go to Earth Fare to buy food - they'll have cereals, cookies, etc., though not sure on prepared foods. Earth Fare has a website and is located downtown. You might also try the Kroger on College Station Rd (check Kroger website for directions), they have a fairly good gluten-free selection, though, again...
  19. It is interesting that natural flavorings used for meat are different than those defined for other foods (anything plant derived). Regardless, I got sick, though, admittedly, I do have allergies to milk, eggs, and (learned this week) corn. Who knows.... I avoid any food that has unspecified "natural flavorings" "food starch", etc. For these food companies...
  20. Hi, I know this doesn't help exactly, but something to consider - I recently got back from a Royal Caribbean Cruise and they were very good at accomadating my needs. They only asked that I avoid the buffet and eat at their restaurant or order room service. I just ordered all my dinners with plain baked potatoes, plain meat, and steamed veggies. For...
  21. Hi all, I was feeling lousy for a while too until I learned that I had dairy/egg intolerance as well as a corn sensitivity. I also eliminated soaps and shampoos that contained wheat - it eliminated my headaches. I probably had residues on my hands and got glutened. Good luck!
  22. Hi all, Be careful at Walmart - they put additives (i.e. "natural flavorings") on their steaks. I didn't notice until it was too late and, subsequently, got sick for days. I stopped shopping there out of frustration.
  23. Hi, I found some old posts while searching the web about corn allergy in celiacs, but now I can't find it! So, I apologize if this is redundant. I am not able to eat dairy, eggs, and now, apparently, corn. I was still getting sick even after going gluten free (7 months now, give or take a few mistakes) and dairy/egg free, so I switched shampoos, soaps...
  24. Hi ms_sillyak_screwed, I have hypothyroidism, celiac disease, and am corn, dairy, and egg sensitive. I have been on Synthroid for a while now and it doesn't seem to cause any problems. Good luck.
