  1. Just a quick phone ettiquette question - maybe someone else has experience with this? I work in the Entertainment industry for a touring theatrical production company. Everyone once and awhile, I get a stray phone call from someone equesting contact information for former cast/crew members. I expect these are mostly debt collection offices or something...
  2. haha. this would go perfect with tea! We didn't get a chance to freeze it. Ate it too fast!
  3. Hi All, Just FYI - there is a recipe for pound cake on the back of the Bob Red Mill's Sweet Rice Flour bags. I made it yesterday and it is super, duper good. Granted, I subbed brown rice flour for Sorghum flour and I subbed tapioca starch for corn starch. I don't know if using the original ingredients would make a difference, but it came out beautifully...
  4. I've had on-off insomnia for most of my life. I've found that keeping the bedroom cold temperature-wise helps me fall asleep. Weird maybe, but it helps me.
  5. Do you have any support organizations in your area? I haven't tried this yet, but I've thought about it. It would be nice to go out and eat with some other folks that really understand. I've kind of given up on my family being nice or competent about it. I have a few friends that will at least tolerate me instead of being outright mean about it. Others have...

  7. Thanks! I'm obsessed with sweet rice flour. I think it makes a big difference.
  8. An easy way to make these at home is to boil the ribs for 45 minutes in seasoned water and stock veggies. Remove, Brush with your favorite sauce and spices (I use San-J Gluten Free Spicy Peanut mixed with their gluten-free Szechuan) and broil on high until they are crispy and good-looking on the outside. We do this at my house because we don't have a grill...

  11. Hi All, Me and my boyfriend have been watching "good eats" recently on netflix. I watched Alton's chiffon cake episode and decided to make a gluten free rendition.I have made several cakes, which have been passable. This is the first one where I felt like I could probably continuously replicate the results. Open Original Shared Link I followed...
  12. Hi All, Many months later, I found this article. Open Original Shared Link Aura Cacia - Open Original Shared Link: “These products do not contain gluten; we provide full ingredient disclosure on our products. However, we do process an oat and milk bath at this facility. While we do practice GMPs (Good Manufacturing Processes) to minimize t...
  13. I agree, Bisquick makes really good gluten free pancake mix. If you want something healthier, I also like Hodgson Mills gluten-free pancake/waffle mix with flax. It's not as light and fluffy, but it has more protein and it's still yummy.
  14. It's the Gluten-Free Certification Organization. (gluten-free with the circle.) Shouldn't the Amella website say something about testing their products on their FAQ page though? Just saying " a harmless " amount of gluten seems weird. They don't even have the certification listed on their website. It's on the label, but the actual production description just...
  15. I'm noticing this more and more on items that are certified gluten free. Thoughts people?
  16. So I bought these Amella dark chocolate sea salt caramels at whole foods. They carry the Certified Gluten free logo on the packaging, so I eat them. After I'm done, I turn over the label and the allergy statement says they are produced on shared equipment with wheat. I check their website-- here is what the FAQS Say: Are Amella Caramels Gluten Free...
  17. Ask her out to do something non-food related, like coffee and a museum trip? You don't have to breach the diet topic all at once. Don't sell yourself short.
  18. thanks, can you please post a link to the threads? I'm digging through and I don't see them!
  19. I usually break out in hives when I accidentally ingest gluten. Usually it happens several hours after the fact so it was hard to pinpoint what was causing it before my celiac diagnosis.
  20. Hi All, I've been seeing this floating around the news: Open Original Shared Link Supposedly the scientists that discovered it have "debunked" non-celiac gluten sensitivity and the article is getting reblogged all over the internet. This horrifies me! I have celiac disease, but I feel like this kind of news will contribute to further negativity...
  21. So I told my friend I would adopt this kitten from her and I'm super excited about it. Me and my boyfriend are about to move into a new apartment that's cat friendly, so everything should be good. My dad keeps telling me not to get a cat? No clue why! He says they always get fleas and you can't get rid of them. i can't help but think he is exaggerating...
  22. I'm working closely with the COO of my company as a part of ongoing training for my job. Every thing seems fine except for when the topic of food of arises. The executives at my company do a lot of traveling and go to a lot of business dinners. I can tell he thinks this is going to be an issue for me. Has anyone had celiac interfere with their professional...
  23. I use Nativas Naturals Hemp Protein Power in smoothies and vegan food all the time. Love it!
  24. I dilute essential oils with almond oil before application. It's really weird, I've used aura cacia brand oils for years and years, but recently I've had a few hives pop up. It's the only thing I can correlate the reaction with. No idea. -shrug- I've started using allafia unscented shea butter instead (it says gluten free on the label) and i'm pretty...
