  1. I just make a ton of hardboiled eggs every Sunday and pop them in the fridge. Breakfast is usually two eggs, a piece of fruit, and black coffee. Very low maintenance as long as you are okay cooking the eggs once a week.
  2. I use them on my skin with good success, but I wouldn't ingest them unless they were labeled as food-grade and gluten free. I started a similar thread awhile back because I was having issues using Aura Acacia. https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/106186-essential-oils-body-oils/ I think Glutenologist is right that they are alot of questionable oils...
  3. So we've concluded Amy's is safe now, basically? I used to not eat them, but then I read they test all their stuff now. This is a major game changer as I used to eat Amy's stuff all the time before I was diagnosed.
  4. If your girlfriend is newly diagnosed, it may take some time to tell the signs of being "glutened." When I first got diagnosed with Celiac Disease, my overall symptoms improved pretty quickly just from cutting out gluten-containing foods. It wasn't until about six months in that I noticed my symptoms (rash, stomach issues, fatigue, etc.) had a strange resurgence...
  5. Ugh, that is all I have to say to that.
  6. Just wanted to bump this thread. I was at Ulta the other day refreshing my makeup bag and I found the most awesome gluten-free, cruelty free brand called Tarte. They have a statement that all of their products are formulated without gluten. I was a little hesistant because sometimes these so called "natural" makeup products are not as high quality. Also,...
  7. We use grain-free Blue Buffalo for our cats, though I'm thinking about switching to a different brand. It's too annoying dealing with the idea of CC, in my opinion.
  8. Udi's hamburger buns are relatively inexpensive and widely available. I like them! They're big and fluffy and stay together for the most part. Schar also makes a roll that's pretty good.
  9. I've been fine with peanut butter m&ms, but I usually prefer to stick with Hershey's brand candy, Endangered Species Chocolate, or Justin's brand since they actually address the issue of gluten directly. Reeses eggs and the mini reeses cups and any other speciality/holiday shapes are not safe. Only the regular reeses cups are gluten free. http...
  10. this place is SPECTACULAR: Open Original Shared Link Rise bakery just opened and is completely celiac safe - all items are gluten free. They serve croissants, I kid you not! I spent like 60 dollars the first my boyfriend and I went there and stocked up. Happy Tart is in Virginia, so it's a bit of a hike if you're staying in the city or on the Maryland...
  11. I was excited to see this product as well. I still prefer tinkyada given the option, but I often do Ronzoni if I need to be budget conscious that week.
  12. In my opinion, just ignore them. Of course, they are only trying to help, but if they are that naive about one thing, they're probably not all that smart in general (no offense.) Sometimes I find the whole experience of having Celiac Disease to be socially terrible, but at the end of the day, you just have to take solace in knowing that you are doing the...
  13. I stick with basic Crest toothpaste. Colgate has some wishy-washy statement, so I avoid using it. I think the Crest Pro-Life products are also questionable, but I can't remember. I never buy them.
  14. I'm not totally sure what the law is, admittedly, but I'm pretty sure they at least have to offer. I'm fairly certain that an employeer can't feed a whole group of peole and refuse to provide food for one person. At least, that person needs to get a stipend to buy their own meal. Otherwise, you would not see people offering vegetarian options, gluten free...
  15. also, if you are a possible celiac case, it's worth the potential fight with your gastro to get a biopsy done. I pretty much had to threaten mine before he agreed to biopsy me (off the chart gliadin levels, anemic, vitamin deficient, hair falling out, full body rash, but I failed the celiac panel. He didn't want to biopsy me because the panel came up negative...
  16. I had a very similar experience when I got my first real corporate type job. I was also 23 (now 26.) I very gently explained celiac disease to my co-workers. I was not overly verbal about it at first, but now I try to be as open about it as possible. At this point, I talk about it whenever I feel like it (as it's a huge part of my daily life.) If it makes...
  17. I seriously recommend doing Whole 30 to anyone recently diagnosed with celiac disease and struggling with weight gain. When I first got diagnosed, my gastro did not believe I had celiac (due to the fact that so many people are underweight upon diagnosis.) I was hanging around 170 (I'm 5'6.) I was pretty unhappy about it, but didn't have much energy to do...
  18. TBH, the waitstaff and shift-to-shift line cooks are generally my biggest frustration. I've been to some really great restaurants with awesome menus and still had a bad experience due to servers and the fact that there could be a different cook depending on the day. For example, I was in Spain last June with my boyfriend. We found this great restaurant...
  19. I think it possible. My emotional state certainly improved with my general state of health. In retrospect, I can now clearly see certain depressive cycles correlating with my dietary lifestyle.
  20. Grilled buffalo chicken breast and sauteed kale with bleu cheese crumbles!
  21. I put on 25lbs post diagnosis. When I wanted to kickstart my weight loss, I followed a diet called whole 30. It worked really well in getting me started. It's grain, soy, legume, and dairy free . It really helped me develop better eating habits in general. For example, I was someone who could not do coffee without milk and sugar. Now I enjoy it black! Don...
  22. haha probably true. I wish we had more concrete policies in place in my office. I think i will just create a list for the next person when I hopefully get a new job within the next year. Sometimes I have flashes of self-doubt over the dumbest things because I'm only relying on my common sense to make decisions.
  23. Just to clarify, I'm versed on not issuing personal information willy-nilly. I was just wondering if I should be going above and beyond to contact former employees when people call for them. I hate to think that someone's credit report is getting hit because the collections agency has an old number on file. However, I think it's just too many people to keep...
  24. I'm not just a receptionist. I handle a variety of responsibilities within my office due to my manager's unwillingness to bring on additional staff. I also work with our insurance broker and manage all of our company's worker's comp claims within the office. As a result, I am able to verify the validity of insurance calls since I file and submit the paperwork...
  25. Thanks all! Usually if it's an employment verification, i just forward it along to our PEO. I thought I was behaving accordingly, but it's just one of those things that no one has ever discussed at my job. Instances where I would consider it acceptable would include insurance calls related to worker's comp claims or something else legitimate where you can...
