  1. I have taken amoxicilin w/o a problem and i just finished taking doxycycline. I am pretty sure i read somewhere they were gluten-free, even though drug companies are too concerned about covering their butts to tell you that. it did slightly bother my stomach, but not in the way that gluten does...antibiotics are very hard on the stomach
  2. Fri Jan 6th sounds great! but if you guys would like to meet a little sooner, i could handle that too- i can always use a pizza study break! i have a trial all week the wk of Nov 28, but maybe sometime in dec before the holidays kick in? Lavender blueberry ice cream?!! WOW- sounds incredible! we may have to start a once-a-month gluten-free...
  3. i know, i do miss knishes... the soups are great though, good to know they are gluten-free as winter gets closer! i went to happyhappyhappy, LOVED the little madeleine cookies, everything else i tried was good, but some things were a bit hard and dry. but im excited to hear about everybody eats- never heard of it but sounds awesome! ill be done Dec 18...
  4. I used to order take-out from epsteins at least once a wk when i was little! LOVED the food there! those knishes, so good!!!! (usually went to the one in Hartsdale, but i've been to both locations)-- i grew up in Edgemont school district, town of greenburgh- lived right off Central Ave. Def Risotteria, as soon as my finals are over ill have a very flexible...
  5. Danielle- I live in midtown west, near lincoln center (where Fordham is). My favorite place to shop is called Westerly, its on 53rd/8th - not exactly close to you! i like it b/c i think for some things the selection is a little better than whole foods and everything is just a little bit cheaper. but whole foods is obviously great too and has a much better...
  6. We should all meet up there...ive heard its delicious! (and then on to dessert at happyhappyhappy or babycakes!)
  7. Hey Dani, Not only do i live in NYC, but I am in my last year at Fordham Law school. I just turned 24. Are you planning on going to law school? I also know several gluten-free restaurants in NY- risotteria is downtown, supposed to be great. Also Sambuca on W72nd- ive been there and they have a good gluten-free menu. Where in manhattan do u live? i have...
  8. Linda- Thanks! been meaning to get there but couldnt remember where i saw the address (and couldnt remember the exact name of the place)- now i can finally test it out! Have you been to Happyhappyhappy? Wondering how it compares...
  9. Interesting article on breast feeding and its role in delaying or eliminating changes of celiac disease.. this could explain why so many develop celiac disease later in life...my mom sent this to me and said "I breastfed you, why didnt it work?!" haha Open Original Shared Link
  10. I second the kettle corn- its great! but not necessarily a good addiction financially!
  11. jenvan- totally agree. i have the very same rxn to gum and ive always attributed it to that. Especially since i dont have the same rxn to most mints and they have a lot of the same ingredients. The artificial sweeteners bother me in both gum and mints but its different from the feeling i get from just chewing gum
  12. perfect, going there tomorrow...
  13. Thank you all - very helpful suggestions! it ends up being so easy to grab a snickers or M&Ms from the vending machine and i feel like im living on sugar when i dont plan in advance...but as u know astyanax its really hard to plan in advance with such a non-routine schedule! cornbread- do u know of any stores that carry those bars or do u get them...
  14. I was just wondering if anyone had any good tips for getting enough fiber in my gluten-free diet. Before i used to have a lot of bran and ate mostly whole wheat foods, and i find that im not getting much fiber now. I hate taking supplements. I try to eat fruit and veggies as much as possible and i just bought flaxmeal to put in yogurt, but w/ 2 jobs and...

    ARCHIVED Nyc Pizza

YES i def am, but unfortunately i have been insanely busy and have not had a chance to call them (website does not list an email). however, I just went to the website and the menu no longer lists gluten free next to spelt!! someone else from this site already take the initiative? If so, you rock- and sorry i didnt get a chance to jump on this one...I did...
  16. The banana bread got rave reviews from my gluten-free grandmother and my non-gluten-free parents! melted some butter on it and said it was incredible!
  17. I know when i mess up, it takes me several days or up to a week to feel completely better, and during that week anything will make me sick but 2 months is a long time to still not feel better... the bloating/gas after every meal reminds me of what my old roommate used to get all the time, for her it was IBS. She limited fruits, veggies, milk and caffeine...
  18. ive eaten in a few diners but the risk for cross-contamination is high so i try not to. i usually just get a snack, like a milkshake or hot chocolate or something, but u can always order a salad w/ oil & vinegar or a fruit salad. i have ordered eggs but i wouldnt necessarily recommend it for cross-contamination purposes...
  19. I love Silk soymilk- all varieties, and they say gluten free on the container. I dont know about the pros/cons of soy but dont they say the same about regular milk? (that we are not meant to digest lactose?). That said, i try to mix it up a bit so im not eating too much of the same thing (i drink skim milk too b/c i can tolerate it)
  20. Thanks Michael- i actually am not technically lactose intolerant but i find soy milk must easier to digest so i generally drink it over regular milk. And ever since i learned about the problems w/ Westsoy i have been drinking Silk- u are so right! i love it, especially since it lists that it is gluten free on the box Thanks for your suggestions- it must...
  21. I have had many ultrasounds and none have been productive. Cranberry works best for me- and intermittent antibiotics (on an as-needed basis). You are lucky you have no symptoms though- mine are terrible!!!
  22. I was wondering this same thing! I have had 2 seemingly unrelated problems for my whole life- recurring UTI's and terrible problems w/ chronic diarrhea. I have finally solved one of the problems (i have a gluten sensitivity if not celiac disease) but the UTI's are a mystery. I have had several procedures done (when i was 4, 9, 12, and 18) to figure out...
  23. Dogear, just wanted to pipe in and agree with the general consensus here. This is the only forum i have come across with such a helpful, well-informed and caring group of people, celiac or not. I too am undiagnosed (stopped eating gluten before i was tested so got unclear results) but to me it is more important to stick to this diet so i can get through...
  24. Ive been gluten-free for around 5 months now and my symptoms are MUCH different than before- exactly as described, if i have a crumb of something i get sick and it comes on almost immediately (used to be a delayed rxn). Also, used to be sick all the time- now i never even think about it unless i mess up (which is more often than id like to admit, but certainly...
  25. Thanks Kaiti Stephanie- now you have to track down the "inventor" and get him to start working on a gluten-free version! -Stefi
