ARCHIVED Weird Question:
mookie03 replied to GlutenFreeAl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
one thing i noticed about before i went gluten-free (or when i am glutened) is that after ingesting gluten, i would suddenly have to pee w/ extreme urgency. I would go, then 15-20 mins later, i had to pee again, and thats when i would get sick-- its weird b/c even if i dont know i am glutened, i will know by the constant peeing w/ urgency after the meal... -
Me too! Honey wheat was always my favorite. Or whole wheat. I havent bought bread b/c i havent found one i love yet but i now eat this "sandwich" on frozen waffles (i like vans). Ill defrost the waffle and put peanut butter, honey and sliced banana on it -YUM! As to the "comfort food" thing, this is the most ironic thing for me about celiacs- all i ate...

someone i know just found out tonight and said "You cant eat bread? No wonder you are so skinny!!!" I started hysterically laughing b/c i was thinking about this post and she asked what was so funny and i said "I was dxed in June"-- she looked at me like i was crazy but i didnt feel like getting into it so i changed the subject...we should start a post "Top... -
ARCHIVED High Fiber gluten-free Cereal- Is There Any?
mookie03 replied to kathy1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I second this idea-- some people dont like these, but i really like the cinnamon crunch flavor w/ soymilk (you can use any milk of course) or yogurt. Its not cereal, its granola, but i think its great. Depending which flavor you choose, it has 6 or 7g of fiber. Sometimes i even add flaxmeal for additional fiber -
thanks guys! Yea, that restaurant sounds really good but is quite far being that i dont have a car! I've been to Rosa Mexicano several times before dx (theres one right next to fordham law) but i havent tried it yet. I went to one mexican place in vegas and was ok, but i ate the chips w/o giving it a second thought and realized afterwards that there was...

Hey guys, when i first went gluten-free i understood that mexican was generally a "safe" food to eat if you are dining out bc they dont use much wheat in their food. But i was just wondering how safe it is. I mean, i know eating out is always a risk, but do u guys find that the tortilla chips are generally safe? And what about seasoning/spices? I know i...

i just saw this post and was wondering the same thing-- i went to fatburger when i was in vegas-- i had a bunless burger and fries there. about 15 minutes later i was violently ill and was sick the rest of the day, but i also questioned whether this was a gluten reaction (it was a "different" kind of sickness). So i know that wasnt helpful, but id be very...

ARCHIVED Point Me To Details On Food Log
mookie03 replied to sneako's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Whatever works best for you. I personally find myself at a computer almost all day long, so i prefer to do it online. When i first went gluten-free, i used the Notepad on my yahoo account, so i could access it from any computer by logging into my email. Another site you can try is Sparkpeople.com. Its a nutrition site and you can enter in everything you... -

mookie03 replied to carriecraig's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Actually, it usually comes up the most when im in a bar w/a group of people ordering pitchers of beer and i quietly walk to the bar and order myself vodka on the rocks. That usually stirs up a million questions about why im not drinking beer, so i usually start by saying "I'm allergic." Inevitably, from guys in their 20s, the response is: "You are allergic... -
I agree, you guys are the best! I love when someone asks a question that i know the answer to, b/c it makes me so happy to be able to give back to those that have gotten me through the past 7 months! I have no idea how hard this would have been w/o this board, but thankfully, ill never have to know. You all rock!

mookie03 replied to Moongirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm not sure about that-- i called them a few months ago about the soft chews and the other new kind (i cant remember the name right now but they are chewable and the person i spoke to said that neither one was gluten-free-- im not sure the person i spoke to was brilliant, but ive been avoiding that kind too just in case. my advice? dont take anything... -

ARCHIVED Did You Know Someone With Celiac
mookie03 replied to carriecraig's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I knew one person who had it before me- my friends mom- and she was diagnosed about 1 year before me. But since my diagnosis, i have noticed that almost everyone i have told has said "Oh, i just heard about someone who has that - my friend's sister's husband's brother's...etc"...u get the picture. In my experience, knowledge of this disease is really starting... -
ARCHIVED Bowel Movements Worsening After 2 Weeks gluten-free
mookie03 replied to Jeepster's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I know it is extremely frustrating, but I would give it some more time. This is a pretty big adjustment for your body and you are not going to feel perfect right away. But no matter how much u restrict your diet, it may not help until ur body has taken the time it needs. In my opinion, you could decide to live on one food for the next month and it would... -
ARCHIVED Roasted Nuts
mookie03 replied to danikali's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
westsoy soymilk candies (like see's) chicken broth frozen foods, like veggie burgers (most brands) dry roasted nuts (they give them out on an airplane!) candy corn (some brands) certain cheeses, meats (like deli) basically any food that it seems like wouldnt need gluten for any purposes... I mean if it can taste just as good w/o the gluten... -

i was once at a restaurant and the waiter brought me my drink and said "you know, ur disease cant be that serious, b/c vodka has sugar in it too" I was with my parents, who were furious- my mom was like "NOT GLUCOSE, GLUTEN. FLOUR. GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEAD!" Ha, it was kinda rude but the waiter was a jerk. I almost walked out of the restaurant! I too... -
ARCHIVED Sushi
mookie03 replied to danikali's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
yes go ahead! just keep in mind that some use soy sauce in their rolls so be sure to ask. (for example, i once got sushi from whole foods and it made me sick- they actually put soy sauce in ALL of their rolls but stupidly i didnt read the ingredients first!) -
ARCHIVED Really Getting Frustrated Again!
mookie03 replied to danikali's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Dani, While i agree that dairy can be a problem for some once they go gluten-free, i just have to play devils advocate for a second-- i thought i was lactose intolerant my whole life until i realized it was just gluten, and now i have found that having a glass of milk can help me a lot when im glutened or just not feeling 100%. The verdict is still out... -
ARCHIVED Really Getting Frustrated Again!
mookie03 replied to danikali's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease

ARCHIVED What's Forbidden In Chicken Broth?
mookie03 replied to terriH's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks guys- yea, i know i should always ask, but im not very good about taking the time to ask the chef- i always try to ask the manager instead...but you are totally right, i should always ask the chef. I just thought it would be offensive to ask the chef if he uses the real stuff- but since so many of them dont, and its my health we are talking about... -
ARCHIVED What's Forbidden In Chicken Broth?
mookie03 replied to terriH's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just to clarify, does this mean that broth in a restaurant (a real restaurant, not a fast-food kind of establishment) would likely be safe? i have been avoiding all sauces and soups in restaurants b/c of the possibility of broth containing gluten, but my mom recently asked me why and said that most nicer restaurants would use natural chicken broth. In particular...
