  1. Not to shift the topic on here completely away from fat and onto a shrine to Jenvan, but since you mentioned Bare Escentuals, i had to comment. Jen, Thanks so much for recommending this stuff (i think it was a few months ago). I just got the start-up kit and i am OBSESSED! I got a facial and the aestetician recommended it and i remembered your recommendations...
  2. I use Jarrodophilus, says on the bottle "contains NO common allergen"- got them at whole foods www.jarrow.com
  3. I love these brownies, not only b/c they are AMAZING but b/c they are what convinced my family that gluten free stuff is edible. Seriously, before i found these, my family absolutely refused to eat anything I ate (by family i mean my parents, and i dont live with them, so its not that big of an issue). My mother would make Spaghetti bolognese and make two...
  4. I'm with you Nantzie, no question about it, those emissions are THE WORST! Enough to make u never want to mess up on the diet, huh?
  5. Jen-- the gluten-free pizza is ALWAYS available, as well as yummy risotto and paninis. And be sure to try the carrot cake, it is EXCELLENT! and the fudgie (two chocolate chip cookies w/ frosting in between). And while we're on the subject of desserts (my fav subject) try babycakes as well- its a bakery in the lower east side that was just rated by New York...
  6. I dont know where the thread is but i can tell you you MUST go to Risotteria (risotterianyc.com) while u are here if you havent been there. If u are here on a tuesday, they have gluten-free pasta on tuesdays. Where are you staying? I have been to Sambuca (upper west side) www.sambucanyc.com and i liked it but it has gotten mixed reviews from others. Everyone...
  7. I am very sad to report that happy happy happy is closing Check out this link for more info, i think this note is VERY unfortunate- and not good news for celiacs-- sorry to be the bearer of bad news! Open Original Shared Link
  8. I have asthma induced by allergies and exercise. Usually i will just take a puff before any cardio activity and im ok but occasionally i will have a reaction just from allergies or from accidental ingestion of gluten. If it is from the gluten, i usually will wake up in the middle of the night unable to breathe. I have found that it helps to sleep w/ a humidifier...
  9. Haha, I'm so glad to hear it-- not that you got sick of course, but that you enjoyed them as much as i did One thing i forgot to mention about these cookies is that you have to guard them with your life-- b/c even non-celiacs will go crazy for them
  10. Hey guys.... So i have some bad news, it looks like i'm not going to be able to join u all tomorrow My friend's parents are in town and had gotten me a ticket to see Doubt tomorrow-- i thought it was the matinee but it turns out i was wrong and it is the 8pm show. SO I am going to have to miss out on this trip. BUT, i know you will all love it so...
  11. Thanks Amanda!!! Just to clarify, this is the train to Oakdale right? I just went to the LIRR website and saw that we would have to change the time...but u beat me to it!
  12. I have been having the same reaction to Vitamin Water, and i cant figure out what gives! Anyone else drink it w/o problems?
  13. It's that time of year again, my favorite..... I know Hershey's and Cadbury are the good kind of labelers and i need not worry about things like natural flavors on their ingredients, but after the whole "hershey minis" exposure, i found myself standing in the CVS candy aisle scared to purchase anything in the holiday packaging! So i just wanted to check...
  14. So i just got my "Best of" New York magazine issue, and what is rated the best cupcake in NYC? Nope, not magnolia, not cupcake cafe.... BABYCAKES!!! They say: "Are we actually suggesting that the exclusion of eggs, dairy, sugar and wheat doesnt spell doom for a cupcake? That cold-pressed coconut oil, agave nectar, garbanzo flour, and spelt arent...
  15. Well, i, like you, have gone on and off the pill for around 7 years, and went off it in July (and went gluten-free in June). I am STILL waiting for my period! (and no, im not 8 months pregnant ). For me I am fairly sure it is a combination of the two things together- going off gluten and the pill. but i always had very light periods on the pill, leading...
  16. I recently realized i get very sick from certain types of dried fruit-- i havent totally figured it out yet but i can say for sure that dried apricots, mangos and a few others make me woefully ill...feels like a gluten rxn but a little different...debilitating nonetheless. Strangest thing is i eat dried blueberries, cranberries and raisins daily w/ no problem...

    ARCHIVED Panera's

So funny, i used to LIVE off of Panera when i lived in St Louis (there it is called St Louis Bread Co) and the other day i was in DC and stopped into Panera to use the restroom...well that Panera smell, i would recognize it ANYWHERE, was so strong that my friend actually asked if it was gonna make me sick! She said "wow, if there is an aroma that could cause...
  18. Pixi-- you are not alone! I am the exact same way. I live in the city and have grown up on takeout my whole life. I never cook and rarely even eat meals at home. But this is not totally unmanageable, there are many restaurants in NYC that are more than accomodating and you CAN still eat out- i do all the time. And yes, sometimes i get sick from cross...
  19. Same thing happened to me on friday... I had to eat at a diner w/ my boss and was starving-- so i couldnt just order something to drink.. well, i had an omelette and home fries and was sick as a dog later... Im quite sure it was cooked on the same grill as pancakes, etc. Either that or they sprinkle flour on the grill to make sure it doesnt stick. Either...
  20. Thanks for taking on the role of organizer Amanda! I must have missed something, b/c i have no idea what pizza thing you are talking about, but 7:30 sounds good...im going to a matinee at 2 so i couldnt do much earlier than that...is anyone else going from the city?
  21. Someone else will certainly be more helpful than i will, b/c i dont have a direct answer to your question, but i was just down there so i figured id reply w/ my experience. I stayed in Bethesda and went to restaurants there, Georgetown and Chevy Chase. None of them were gluten free restaurants but they were all very accomodating to my needs- i even ate...
  22. I know, i was upset about the stonyfield too, but i use the plain and i too use maple syrup- so yum! Sometimes i add a dash of brown sugar if i want something even a little sweeter. Occasionally ill add real fruit too but i am so excited to try jam now!
  23. I was wondering the same thing! I wanted to buy the vanilla but didnt want to risk it and couldnt find it on the WF list either (which is so outdated! 2004?!) so i ended up buying the plain and adding stuff to it to sweeten-- never thought of jam though- great idea!! Anyway, please do let us know if you call and get an answer about the other flavors- i SO...
  24. i went to B&N today and had taken 2 steps before i saw this book on the "New releases health" stand-- it made me SOOO happy to see that it was so accessible! I mean, there are several books out there on celiac disease but to walk into a big B&N in NYC and see the book just glaring at me-- that led me to believe that this book could actually play...
  25. Hey Dani, Sorry ur appt wasnt as successful as u had hoped, though it does sound like you reaped some benefit from it, even if just a fresh perspective on ur diet (sometimes its hard to realize how much of a certain food ur eating without someone else pointing out the problems with your diet). I hope u start to feel better as u balance your food a little...
