  1. I think the Van's waffles are great- and i have never gotten sick from them...I just put a drop of syrup on them or some peanut butter and a little honey... I really like the blueberry flavor. As someone else mentioned, the fiber content is really high, which i always look for in a breakfast food (thats why i havent bought the TJ's version). I make them...
  2. Momma Goose-- Have you been to Mie N Yu? I think it is in Georgetown.. My friend wants to go there for a bachelorette weekend nice dinner and their menu online doesnt exactly look too gluten friendly...any thoughts? I'm not too familiar w/ DC restaurants.. Thanks!
  3. So funny, right after i posted about restaurants i thought "oh no, i didnt mention Bistango!" But by the time i got back here, you girls had taken care of it - add that one to the list!
  4. Yes, you MUST go to Risotteria. Also, if you are looking for something a little nicer, check out Lumi, it is amazing...Depending how long you will be here, if you need to stock up on some snacks, check out Westerly on 54th/8th - they have the best prices and selection of gluten free foods in your area. Also, you can always go to Whole Foods - either the...
  5. Thanks for the heads up on the retail locator - but how is it possible that there are no stores in NYC or westchester?! Brooklyn is the only area that came up - thats crazy! cant wait to try it!
  6. Hey all, Not sure if this has been posted yet, but i just saw in this month's Health magazine an article on gluten-free beers! They did a taste test between New Grist, Bard's Tale and Ramapo Valley - New Grist earned an A. i just love seeing articles on gluten-free things...

  8. i went to the new one on 50th/3rd Ave. It opened around a month ago.
  9. apple crumb or blueberry crumb pie mallomars!! cupcakes- good ones that are moist and flavorful good gluten-free cinnamon raisin bread - like the pepperidge farm bread- that is not really heavy and not too high in fat, sugar or calories more light gluten-free foods- so many of the baked goods are so heavy!
  10. Sorry i have been so mia - i've been insanely busy but we FINALLY went to dos caminos today - the food was great and the waiter was super helpful. All i had to say was the word gluten and she knew immediately what i needed to avoid and what i could eat. The food was great! Service was SLOOOOOOOOOW but otherwise it was a great experience!!
  11. Well, we ended up postponing until December 1 b/c everyone was so crazy this week, so that gives me a little more time. I havent had a chance yet to ask them about the menu but i work in the building so i really have no excuse! I will try to stop by this week and ask about the menu-- are you going this fri, as in the day after thanksgiving? I will try to...

  13. So i have a work lunch this week at the new branch of Dos Caminos (NYC chain restaurant). I plan to stop by and talk to them about whether i can eat anything there but was wondering if anyone here has successfully eaten at one and has any good advice. I tend to stay away from Mexican restaurants because i find it difficult to order there, so any advice would...
  14. Edys makes the regular pumpkin-- and it is DELICIOUSLY gluten free. Enjoy!
  15. Not sure if anyone has posted about this restaurant already, but if you are in westchester GO HERE! I went on Friday night and was very impressed. There is a separate gluten-free menu that is EXTENSIVE-- i mean almost identical to the regular menu but every dish is individually prepared to eliminate the gluten...translation: we can eat almost anything on...
  16. Oh no! I love their marinades Is this a matter of them not realizing there was gluten before or did they actually change the ingredients? SUCKS!!!

    ARCHIVED Lumi

First of all, i have to give all the credit to Jillian (jkmunchkin) who sent me to this restaurant to begin with. I went to Lumi for dinner last night (upper east side- 70s/lex) and had the most amazing gluten-free meal!! I was with my parents, neither of whom adheres to a gluten-free diet, and both absolutely loved the food. I ordered off the gluten...
  18. Stephanie-- thanks for checking that out-- i know there are the two versions of the praegers, and one has oat bran and the other does not, but does your second response mean that now all of them have oat bran? b/c those are the only ones i have found lately...but maybe i should just ask the freezer dept to check it out. As for the sweet potato fries...
  19. wow, this is the nicest thread... Lauren, thanks for the mention-- challenge is accepted, when are we having a fudgie contest?? I know I havent been around that much lately, but do know that i appreciate all the help i've gotten from all of you guys and i do intend to stick around on this site- i think it is so important to give back to those who have...
  20. Thanks Carrie, I had seen that on the website as well, but was concerned that they hadnt updated it since they removed the words gluten-free from their packaging... i mean why would they take it off the packaging but keep it on the website? Doesnt seem to make any sense!
  21. Hi guys, So i was at the supermarket yesterday and went to pick up Alexia's sweet potato fries and noticed they are no longer labeled gluten-free. None of their fries are! And the sweet potato ones had tons of ingredients. Anyway, i emailed the company but was just wondering if anyone had any info on this-- was it a change in ingredients or did they...
  22. There are three flavors in their variety pack- chocolate coconut chew, apple pie and cherry pie. My mom (non-celiac) tried the apple pie one today and LOVED it- and she is very picky about bars b/c she doesnt like sweet things. I think they are good, but i have to say my absolute favorite is Clif Nectar bars-- i love those. But still, its totally exciting...
  23. Hi guys, Sorry if this has already been posted (i have been very MIA lately b/c i was studying for the bar and now just started my new job), but i was at Costco today and they now sell Lara Bars there! Thats the first time i have ever seen a gluten-free product there, so i just had to share!
  24. I have to deal w/ that at work too, but i just say something like "it's an auto-immune reaction, so the symptoms vary and a lot of the effects are long-term so they are more difficult to pinpoint" It is vague enough that they wont ask too many questions and u dont have to get into the details
  25. I had a lot of problem w/ sugar alcohols for the first year after i went gluten-free. Only recently have i started to tolerate those foods and only in small doses. I think for me it has to do w/ my healing process, my body just needed a little more time and i was temporarily "intolerant" to some foods, like sugar alcohols. The good news is it is getting...
