  1. Clif nectar bars-- i just got my (non-celiac) roommate addicted to them- they are like trail mix, fruit and nuts and all natural. I also like EnviroKidz bars-- they are like rice krispie treats- very light.
  2. This thread is great b/c it has reminded me how much acidophilus used to help me-- i was on antibiotics for my entire childhood and adolescence (which is likely what led to my delayed diagnosis- i attributed all my problems to the drugs!) And I never really thought about taking acidophilus while NOT on antibiotics, but considering how much it has always helped...
  3. MMMMM....Drooling.... im so excited!!
  4. I can do next sat after the exam... or i can do most wednesdays- but my spring break is march 12-18 so i wont be around that week. whatever is best for everyone-- i am so excited!! Yea, i am definitely dreading the bar...it is already taking over my life...but thats ok, i just cant wait till its over!
  5. aw, i cant do that friday i have to take the MPRE the next morning (a portion of the bar exam)...have so much fun though, im very jealous hopefully we plan another trip in a few weeks so i can try it too!!!
  6. sounds worth it to me- im so there!! i told my roommate about this place and she was ecstatic to go (she gets really excited about places i can it)-- ha as an aside, remember ur great chinese experience? Well i was in dc last weekend with her and we went to a nice chinese restaurant-- ordered every sauce on the side and everything was bland as hell...but...
  7. B-rabbit-- first of all, coke is gluten-free-- enjoy good luck with the diet-- how are u feeling so far? u will probably have more energy some days than others, but i think thats generally true of anyone... thanks about the kitties- they are SO sweet-- 1 yr old, we adopted them from a shelter. I just got back from a 4 day vacation and was so happy...
  8. Amanda-- why not pack easy portable snacks like dried fruit and nuts or breakfast/power bars? I totally know how frustrating it is, especially being in ny and having to commute around (im totally a bag lady these days) but i always bring lots of snacks so i never get stranded in class w/o food...hope u can find something that works for you!
  9. Jillian- im so jealous that you went there! i have been dreaming about that place since the girl at Risotteria was talking about it...may have to plan a road trip out there at some point how long did it take to get there from tarrytown?
  10. hahaha, im so glad i could be of service and yes, i think its crazy that now having a salad w/o gluten is the best thing in the world to us... but its not like we can eat anything else in a deli! i hope u can work something out w/ ur local deli- and keep me posted on what works, b/c i may do the same! and about being just another nyc nutjob... does it...
  11. wow, im really surprised everyone likes them so much-- i bought them on sale at whole foods one time b/c i saw they were gluten-free and i thought they were disgusting- i had to throw it out! The chocolate to me tasted like Atkins chocolate, had that "sugar alcohol" taste...then again, i guess thats what i should have expected given the name... oh well...
  12. i totally sympathize on this one, bc i went through the same thing at my local deli (im in manhattan too)...i was getting sick whenever i ate the salads and i know all the ingredients were gluten-free...at first i thought it was the dressing (i always got oil and vinegar) but i know distilled vinegar is fine, and oil is, well, just oil. So i realized it...
  13. I now go to the market to get fresh fruit and veggies 2x a week- i had maybe been there once in my life before! So i guess thats one positive change, though not as "random" as i guess u intended but thats about all i can come up with off the top of my head...
  14. I have had breathing problems my whole life-- i stopped breathing and was rushed to the hospital several times as a baby and now wont go anywhere without my inhaler. The worst time i can remember was right before going gluten-free, when i was at my worst physically and would wake up in the middle of the night each night unable to breathe...it was positively...
  15. I know a few people will pipe in on their opinions of soy...but i love silk soymilk- all varieties say gluten free on the package and i really like the taste- especially with granola.
  16. well, i cant really answer as i went off the pill the same time as going off gluten, but i know that being gluten free has made me feel 100% better overall. i have gone on and off the pill for years and never noticed much difference in myself , but i know many people do. The change sounds like it happened very quickly for you though which leads me to think...
  17. i know every body is different so it is really hard to say, but i will tell you that i actually have MUCH more energy now that i have adjusted to being gluten-free...i just feel healthier as a whole. one thing that helps me is trying to exercise in the morning- it gives me more energy throughout the day. also, try to make sure that you get enough protein...
  18. It's wierd, other than minor bloating, i really have no signs of getting my period at all...in the past when i have gone off the pill i have skipped a few months but always had at least cramps each month.. but i agree, jillian, the change of diet seems to be a part of it...especially since im not the only one with this problem! floridanative- thanks for the...
  19. Ironically, this post recirculated itself just as i was thinking the same thing.... I was dxed in June 2005 and went off the pill in July. Its now february and i havent gotten my period yet since june-- i am thinking it is from going off the pill but has anyone else not gotten their periods from the change in diet? (and no, i havent lost weight and yes...
  20. i'm with dani on this one-- i had every type of procedure done during my childhood to figure out what caused them and they never could tell, but i always had one...it never went away...until i went gluten-free last june- havent had one since. Coincidence? Maybe, probably, likely....but i seriously hope its related to the celiac b/c i dont want them back...
  21. My friend's mom has celiac and is obsessed with them. She made me try one back in june when i first went gluten-free and i remember liking it (warm w/ butter) but i am not much of a rye person so i havent had them since... but yes, i would give them a shot!
  22. Open Original Shared Link Check out that post-- i hope i did that right! i asked this question not too long ago...the consensus was that mexican restaurants are not too safe b/c of cross contamination problems (cooking everything in the same oil, etc.)
  23. if only it were that easy... no, not all nuts are gluten free unfortunately. Many dry roasted nuts or flavored nuts contain gluten, so u should always check on that (found that one out the hard way). Plain nuts *shouldnt* contain gluten, but yes, cross contamination is generally a risk. My rule of thumb with those bins is that i will eat things from...
  24. I got the same response and assumed that meant they were not gluten free. I dont eat them anymore- and after eating them a lot in the past, i noticed how much better i felt now that i dont eat them-so i think they really were making me sick! But, there are plenty of mints that we can eat, so i just stick to those...i miss mentos though!
  25. I stopped by AGAIN today and couldnt find them in the cookie aisle! i was in a rush so didnt have time to ask, but i must try these cookies!!!!!!!
