  1. Jen, i'm so glad you said this, i thought i was going crazy! I feel like im absorbing alcohol for the first time in my life- I was always a big drinker and had a tremendously high tolerance. Since going gluten-free, when i drink alcohol, i am buzzed almost immediately and drunk really quickly! I am really trying to avoid alcohol as much as possible, in...
  2. Judy- I keep laughing that you call me mookie, i chose it after the old met Mookie Wilson, who i clearly am nothing like, so it makes me laugh to see it But you can call me Stefi, of course! As for the recipe for the cookies, I will definitely get it from my roommate and post it- her mother (who as i said loves to bake) got it for her and it includes a...
  3. mmmm... if it was dinnertime, probably chinese food- sesame chicken w/ broccoli, an egg roll, and then for dessert, id have a slice of entenmanns choc chip creme filled cake (grew up on the stuff, SOOO good). If it were breakfast time, NO CONTEST- Bacon egg and cheese on a honey WHOLE WHEAT bagel, with a slice of entenmanns choc chip creme filled cake ...

    ARCHIVED Hi

Steve, Welcome! I found that initially, my rxns were a lot more severe than they are now, but i usually feel a little sick immediately and get more sick over the next few hours. It also depends what i eat and i noticed that if i drink alcohol after or during an accidental glutening, my rxn is delayed but multiplied by 1000 the next morning (and coupled...
  5. Wendy- Risotteria.com-- the place is AMAZING- a few of us went there last night, they have gluten-free pasta on Tuesdays. The pizzas and the breadsticks are great and DEF try the carrot cake or the "fudgie" for dessert- YOU WILL BE IMPRESSED
  6. Jen- thanks for the explanation! do you think you can use brown rice flour instead of white? Or will that not taste as good (i have brown but not white in my house)... Judy- u really crack me up. Seriously, my roommate's mother is obsessed w/ baking so my roommate is an expert- she made me the most amazing gluten-free choc chip cookies, but i am so not...
  7. Just to be clear, westsoy's nonfat vanilla soymilk is NOT gluten-free-- it has barley in it... I stopped using westsoy as i kept getting reactions from it
  8. Well, Judy, u have officially scared me about my ability to make these!! You sound just like me in the kitchen, i have NEVER been a baker/chef etc. I grew up on take-out and have pretty much survived that way my whole life-- but thought these would be an interesting recipe to try... Now i am totally scared!!! I have tried since going gluten-free...
  9. Dani- totally with you on this one...i always thought it was something concocted by weight watchers or something to control people and shock them into decreasing their portion size... i totally dont get it. my interpretation of it is that when you go to a restaurant, and they give you a piece of meat, fish, chicken, whatever, that is the size of your head...
  10. I did the same thing! I was prepping for a trial at work and the attorney i was working with ALWAYS had the minis on her desk, so every time i went in there (which was like 50 times a day) i would grab one (or 5) but i kept getting sick and then found out the minis were no good! once i found out, she started setting aside the peanut butter M&Ms...
  11. I know! i saw this and thought "WOW, i must post this one!!" Judy- if u try it today, let me know how it goes-- i cant wait to try it!
  12. There really should- I totally agree! But while we are on the subject, does anyone know of any other holiday candies that we should watch out for? (i mean specifically those companies that sell candies that are gluten free all the time but then come out w/ special holiday packaging and they contain wheat). WGibs, thanks so much for posting that, as im sure...
  13. So, i was looking through my weekly grocery catalog for this place that sells a lot of gluten-free foods, and was about to toss it when i saw this recipe on the back...i have to say, for a peanut butter, banana AND chocolate lover like myself, this sounded too interesting not to post! Havent made them yet, but heres the recipe: gluten-free PEANUT BUTTER...
  14. well, i know that everyone's body is different, but ive noticed recently (VERY recently) that my rxns are not as strong as they were. When i first went gluten-free in June, CC would make me REALLY sick- it was like i could smell or think about gluten and have a rxn! This is how i was for the first 6 months of being gluten-free, but i have noticed in the...
  15. I am actually very surprised that so many people hated sambuca-- i went there in October for my birthday and had a great meal- and was there with several non-celiacs, everyone left happy. We were there on a sunday night and they were out of the gluten-free rolls, but it sounds like that was a blessing in disguise- maybe thats why im the only one who liked...
  16. I currently have two cats (ok i think that is obvious) and they are 1 yr old and never barf. SO i cant contribute to that line of the conversation (thankfully-my shoes are intact). But it is true about the meat percentages in their diet- when we adopted them, the woman suggested we put them on a raw meat diet b/c they need lots of meat and shouldnt eat a...
  17. well, its obvious that with celiac, eating gluten and not eating gluten affect every single person differently- some gain before and lose after, some lose before and gain after, and some remain pretty much the same. I didnt ever lose weight prior to going gluten free. When i first went gluten-free, i gained a few pounds in the first 6 months- but more b...
  18. Welcome back Dani! Hope you had a great trip Just an FYI, i used to drink diet vanilla coke a few years ago but found that it made me really dizzy and nauseous and i had to stop drinking it-- i know that it is gluten-free but sometimes soda (and especially diet) can have weird effects on people...so ur problems with coke may not be gluten related
  19. I just emailed GMA- i didnt see the show, but they'll never know that. I love when basic TV stations (CBS, NBC, ABC) address Celiac- i always think they should be rewarded for doing so!
  20. The carrot cake is amazing-- my parents buy it for my grandma (who lives with them and they suspect has celiac disease) and i love visiting my parents now b/c i eat a whole loaf every time i go (even if im only there for an hour ) The banana bread is really good too- they buy that one too. My roommate just bought me the brownies, which i thought were...
  21. WOW, sounds like you have been through a lot of health problems...for your sake, i really hope the gluten-free diet is the solution to many of your health issues!!! (aspiring novelist? your life seems to tell quite a story!) I definitely cant answer all of your questions, and i dont claim to be the most knowledgeable on celiacs (someone else will probably...
  22. I havent done this, but i do know that my parents used to belong to one. They are not celiacs, but i think it is a wonderful idea for celiacs. Of course, it does require finding enough people who are interested but i say do it- u wont have to feel deprived that ur not going out to eat b/c u can still be social and you wont have to worry about the dangers...
  23. Please keep us updated if you do contact the company-- i eat these all the time w/o a problem, but it makes me nervous that you guys have had problems!! i too am EXTREMELY sensitive- the tiniest bit usually sets me off...hence my surprise...
  24. Im one of the "Enjoy Lifers"-- i love the stuff.. i like the cinnamon crunch flavor and a box at my local store (same size as a cereal box) is only $4.15 (same price as a box of cereal). But, ive heard there is some inconsistency w/ this brand- some people have said they have bought boxes that tasted absolutely horrible? Ive never experienced this. I like...
  25. Thats terrible! so sorry that happened, sounds like a terrible experience. In any event, thanks for the heads up and good for you for taking initiative to write them! I live right near there but have never been there, didnt even know they had a gluten free menu...well, after your experience, that is one place i will NOT be eating!!! Feel better!
