  1. I'm glad you brought this up! I was diagnosed in August, and I don't have an appetite either! Dr. told me to aim for 3,000 calories per day until I start gaining weight, but…that's difficult to do. The more I eat, the less I want to eat. I force myself to eat at least 5 times daily, but I am also dairy intolerant, so this is a difficult thing to do. ...
  2. I'm new at this also and still learning. But, one thing that helped me quite a lot was finding gluten free blogs on Facebook. There are a lot of them! There's also an app called ShopWell that allows you to scan bar codes to determine if grocery items are gluten free. There's a definite learning curve involved in this. I agree with others that have already...
  3. I'm new at this also, but I think I'm going to find out what they are serving and bring my own. You can always transfer it to one of their plates.
  4. That's hilarious! Thanks for the belly laugh! I hope you gain that 10 lbs. Good luck to you! I have 14 lbs. to go, and I'll be at normal weight again. At 5'1" and 88 lbs. I was really getting scared, and had no energy at all for rehab - physical rehab that is! LOL!!
  5. Thanks to those who responded to my plea for help. Meals continued to worsen until a dietician was called in. By worsen, I mean I was given whatever they were serving minus foods containing gluten/dairy. That usually consisted of a chicken patty and carrot/celery sticks. I was given Lactaid milk bc it was what they serve, and I was sick for 36 hrs. That...
  6. Hello! I desperately need help. The short of it is I broke my leg, had surgery, and must stay in a rehab facility for a few weeks. My husband did quite a search trying to find one that could meet my dietary needs - gluten/lactose intolerance. I am at the best available, but it's not going well. We met with the chef and he assured me I would be safe....
  7. I'm having the same problem, and I was lactose intolerant before celiac diagnosis. Google SCD diet. I read the book and it makes sense, so I'm going to give it a try. It has you removing all grains, dairy, sugar, and starches from your diet for awhile. Not an easy thing to do, but if it helps I'm willing to go that route for as long as it takes. The...
  8. I was getting ready to post the same question! I've been gluten-free for a month, but I am still not feeling great. I read in several blogs that it is best to eat cooked fruits and vegees instead of raw. The Dietician told me to avoid all processed gluten-free foods for a few months. Also, I read that drinking bone broth was healing - contains collagen...
  9. Frustration hit an all time high yesterday! My visit to the dietician resulted in advising me to get a good gluten free multi-vitamin. I asked about taking a probiotic and a digestive enzyme, she thought it might help. My husband and I started at GNC. The young man working had never heard of Celiac before. We walked out with only a papaya digestive enzyme...
  10. My husband decided it would be easier and safer for me if he went "gluten free" with me. So far, he says he has enjoyed everything I/we have prepared. I know I have to toss wood and rubber utensils and the toaster. What about plastic storage containers, cast iron skillets, freezer containers, and mixing bowls. It is necessary to get rid of those, also...
  11. I was just getting ready to post the same question. I've always been slender, so losing 15 lbs. on me was a lot! I've been consuming extra calories, and it doesn't seem to help. I'm also severely lactose intolerant, so that makes it even harder to gain weight. I found some protein drinks that are lactose/gluten free at CVS Pharmacy, and I've been drinking...
  12. Hello! Since was diagnosed (3 weeks ago), I have diligently tried my best to stand true to the diet. I have an upcoming appt. with a dietician. It's been a struggle since I've been constantly traveling since diagnosis. Actually, I got the call while on vacation. How do you know if you've been "glutened?" Two out of three restaurants I dined at...
