  1. I just thought of something else. If you like oatmeal, try Vigilante Eats chocolate oatmeal in a cup. Add l/2 c. water and it's ready. I ordered a box from Amazon. The reviews are mixed, but I really like it.
  2. This is all new to me, also, but I hope I can help a little bit. I'll be traveling soon within the US, but I want to avoid restaurants and getting sick. While at Target today, I made two great discoveries - Justin's individual servings of almond and peanut butter and GoPicnic meals. Each meal contains about 350 calories. They are similar to a Lunchable...
  3. I didn't have much luck in SF other than two places. One is the Mariposa Bakery located in the Ferry Bldg. It's in the Embarcadero District on the bay. The entire bakery is gluten free. The other place is called Pier 21 - it's also on the bay. Not a great location for kids, but they do have burger and fries, so maybe you could order to go. It's more...
  4. Reading this was worth a much needed good belly laugh today!
  5. LauraTX, I looked up that bakery and will place an order. Lots of choices! What bread did you like, and have you tried the hot dog and burger buns? I'll have to order a bread without dairy, so I hope it's good!
  6. I had the same experience at Five Guys. The first time I went, the place was almost empty and they assured me I could eat there safely. The second time (same store) it was very busy, and I got glutened. I was excited finding a place at the mall to eat, but sadly, I won't return.
  7. Thanks for the responses. My desire for ham turned into quite an expense with an "over-protective" husband. He went to the deli market for the Boars Head ham and decided there were other brands being sold also, so he didn't want it on the slicer. Smart man! BUT, instead he asked for an uncut half ham. So, he came home with a 4 lb. Boars Head ham that...
  8. Please name some brands that are worth purchasing. I have something from GNC - papaya enzyme? The sales guy had no idea what I was talking about when I asked for digestive enzymes. I found the papaya enzymes on the shelf. Is there something better? I want to eat salad!
  9. Can anyone recommend a gluten free ham? I'd like both deli sliced ham and a half ham for Easter dinner. I read that Boar's Head deli meats are gluten-free, but would they remain that way after being sliced in the deli?
  10. This is slightly off post, but what other problems can cause villous atrophy other than celiac?
  11. Thanks for responding. I'll soon be at Navarre Beach, and I was so hoping that I could find at least ONE safe place to eat rather than cook at the rented condo the whole time. I know I've been "glutened" a few times, but have not really had any ill effects that I could identify, until -- I ate at Five Guys last weekend! Oh boy! Now, I know what it feels...
  12. I will have a chance to eat at Bonefish Grill in a couple of weeks. Has anyone been there? Is it as safe as some of the reviews I've read online?
  13. The following is the email that I received from the Peep's people today: We offer many gluten free products under the MIKE AND IKE®, HOT TAMALES®, PEEPS®, GOLDENBERG'S® PEANUT CHEWS® and TEENEE BEANEE® brands, and we are in the process of updating package labels to include gluten free statements where appropriate. Because product formulations can chang...
  14. I'm glad you're doing well. I have to ask - what are rainbow carrots???
  15. My problems aren't as severe as yours, but I'm still having issues after being six months gluten-free. The dietician suggested I try the fodmap diet, and I have to admit it is working at this point in time. It's restrictive, but I don't care as long as it's working. The fodmap diet removes most sugars and carbs from your diet. It wouldn't hurt to give...
  16. Thanks for asking this question, because I have been wondering the same thing. We have a gluten-free household, so my husband always stops in the mudroom to wash his hands when he comes in from work, lunch, etc. I had friends over using my shower today (they are having big plumbing problems) while we were gone. I got two frantic voice mails from them because...
  17. I've made some similar brownies, and you are right, they're delicious. I made mine in a square pan and really think they are better than brownies made with flour.
  18. Thanks for the responses. I was sure he was wrong on those points, but I've never really heard a doctor on tv talk about gluten before, so I was shocked when he made those statements. I had a little time so I looked him up - "Mark Hyman, MD is an American physician, scholar and author. He is the founder and medical director of the UltraWellness Center...
  19. Did anyone see the Katie Show today? She had a Dr. Hyman from the UltraWellness Center on the show as a guest. I question two things that he said: 1) when you lick envelopes, it's the gluten that's making the "stickiness" and 2) that testing is available for gluten sensitivity although it's not that reliable. Aren't envelopes gluten free, and I thought...
  20. Good Morning! I'll be in the Navarre Beach FL area in another month. Navarre Beach is in the panhandle area of Florida close to Pensacola. I'm not familiar with this area at all. I've opted to rent a condo so that I can prepare my own meals, but it sure would be nice to have a safe place to eat a couple of times. Any suggestions on restaurant options...
  21. I think the name - celiac.com - says it all. Personally, I know that when I first started having issues, and didn't know I had celiac, this is where I came for information. I don't see that the information is any different for someone diagnosed with celiac or someone needing info for ncgi or other health related. The information would remain the same,...
  22. The Spice Agent doesn't mix the blends himself. The only blends he makes himself are ones that are specifically requested by a customer, such as my taco seasoning.
  23. Thanks for pointing this out!!
  24. The Spice Agent is a small company located in Branson, MO. I order all my spices from them. All spices are ground on site in small amounts to keep them fresh. Chris, the owner, has assured me that his spices are pure and gluten free, EXCEPT for some of the spice blends. Chris will be more than happy to share info with you on which blends contain gluten...
  25. Naturade also makes Pea Protein Powder, and it comes in flavors.
