  1. I know how you feel! It drove me crazy trying to figure out which list was right. And, then if you look for fodmap recipes on line, some aren't using low fodmaps, so I nearly gave up. The list I got from the dietician didn't match what I'd found on line. I called the dietician about it, and she said that it changes frequently as new foods get tested. The...
  2. I've been gluten free for almost a year and trying to gain weight. Not an easy thing to do especially when I can't eat dairy. Do you like avocados? To get extra fat, I eat avocados, nuts, and spoonfuls of full fat coconut milk (in the can). I'm eating bacon every day (yuck as I'm not a bacon fan), and red meat at least every other day. I make smoothies...
  3. Sweet potatoes are not a low fodmap food; therefore, not on the diet. But, white potatoes are ok.
  4. Read the reviews on Dr. Myers from patients. They aren't good!
  5. Get a letter from your doctor stating you have severe dietary restrictions and need to travel with your own food. I just got back from San Francisco, also. I didn't find it as easy as others have mentioned to find gluten-free restaurants, and the ones I did find are very expensive. Mariposa Bakery, Pier 23, and the San Franciscan (all on Embarkadero) have...
  6. Try googling gluten free blogs - one of my favorites is the Gluten Free Homemaker. You'll find a plethora of recipes. I just bought Danielle Walker's Meals Made Simple. Haven't had time to try anything yet, but it looks good.
  7. Have you looked into the FodMap diet? It was suggested by my gi and the dietician. You can find some info on line and/or purchase a book called The Complete FodMap diet. It's restrictive, but shows you how to start adding foods back into your diet after about 6 weeks. It has been a turn around for me. I'm not yet where I want to be, but I'm getting close...
  8. The only one I have found that doesn't fall apart is Canyon Bakehouse. It's in the frozen section.
  9. I like Numi teas, also. I just discovered them while on vacation in CA. Love the gunpowder green - sounds weird, but it's very smooth.
  10. I was put on the FodMap diet before I was diagnosed with SIBO. I'm now on my third round of antibiotics in the past year to treat SIBO, along with the FodMap diet. I was ready to start the challenge phase of the diet, but it was suggested by the dietician to not start the challenge, but to stay very strict with the first phase of the diet until I finished...
  11. I used a couple of cans of Fire Roasted Diced tomatoes last week, and after I poured them in the pot, I read the label - and, yes, they contained gluten. I can't remember the brand, but it was in a yellow can. Ronzoni gluten-free pasts is also very good.
  12. Higher dollar restaurants seem more willing to ensure that a meal is safe for you. Ask to speak with the chef or restaurant manager before you order. I'm finally getting a handle on the travel thing. I always carry Go Picnic meals, indiv. packets of peanut butter, boiled eggs, instant hot cereal, granola bars, crackers, and fruit. I have frozen soups...
  13. You guys that bought their products need to let them know ASAP that you're getting sick.
  14. Have you checked into Muscle Egg? It's pure egg white and all flavors are gluten free. It's expensive, so order it when they have specials around the holidays. I've been drinking it for awhile. Only 120 calories in a cup, but 25 mg. of protein.
  15. Antibiotics for SIBO are not to be taken at the same time as probiotics. In fact, before I finished the meds the nurse called to remind me not to take them until I finished the last dosage.
  16. I have SIBO, also. I've been on two rounds of rifamaxin, and I'm sure I'm about to go on a third round. The g.i. that I see told me not to take probiotics while on the rifamaxin. He also prescribed the FodMap diet. He gave me book called The Fodmap Diet by Dr. Chey, and sent me to a dietician to get started on the diet. It's important to follow the diet...
  17. Jakes Coffee House in Staunton, IL. It has a limited menu, but everything is good. The owner's young daughter has celiac. I was disappointed when I went there because I was hoping to purchase bread on a regular basis and bring it home. They use Udi's bread and buns, BUT they are not the same as what can be purchased at the local stores. They use Udi...
  18. Mariposa is my favorite bakery in the world! Everything they have is yummy! I make multiple trips every time I'm in SF and online order from there regularly.
  19. Thanks, Karen. They weren't near the bread, so I took a chance.
  20. I have a small crockpot that I take everywhere. I put frozen soups, stews, etc. in the cooler, and it makes for a very quick, almost ready made meal.
  21. Do you feel it is safe to eat hard boiled eggs on a breakfast buffet? I was recently at a hotel that had eggs available on their buffet breakfast. The banana and granola (my own) were just not enough, so I ate one with much trepidation. No problems at all, thankfully, but what is your opinion? Safe enough to do again? I travel quite a lot.
  22. What brand are you using? I looked on Amazon and couldn't find anything with the number of uses that you have.
  23. Guac is gluten free at my Chipotle. I eat there all the time.
  24. Does anyone have experience finding gluten free restaurant options in Oahu?
  25. I almost got in an argument with a lady working in the meat dept. of a grocery store when I asked if their own brand of fresh cured bacon contained gluten. She told me I didn't need to worry about that unless I really had celiac, and even then it was only in bread - no meat products. I told her that I did indeed have celiac, and that her info wasn't correct...
