  1. The right side houses your ascending colon. Could you have a blockage or a twisted colon? I just went through this, and I couldn't lay on my side without a pillow against me, and even then, it still hurt. I waited until the last minute to get medical help (the wrong thing to do!), so perhaps it's time for a phone call to the doctor?
  2. I was having trouble feeling better, also. Dr. and the dietician put me on the FodMap diet for 8 months (essentially an elimination diet). I had to give up coffee for awhile, switched to decaf, still had a problem until I gave it up completely. I can finally drink decaf without a problem. Why don't you try that? I did have headaches for a couple weeks...

    ARCHIVED Travel

I haven't read through this whole topic so this may have been answered, but I'm sure you could fly with a soft-sided cooler. I've flown with an insulated lunch box many times - I usually fill it with fruit snacks, power bars, boiled eggs, fresh fruit, nuts, cookies, etc. Never a problem. When it's empty, I just smash it in my carry-on. I also travel with...
  4. I have two of Danielle Walker's cookbooks - Against All Grain and Meal Made Simple. There's only been one recipe that I don't like. These are my "go to" cookbooks. I love them.
  5. My goodness, you've put a lot of pressure on your home life! It took me more than a year to feel better also, and I didn't feel that bad before diagnosis. Like most newly diagnosed celiacs, I think we worry about everything. My husband decided we would have a gluten free home - I wasn't going to put him through that, but it has worked out well. He eats...
  6. I'm not yet a seasoned celiac, and it's taken me a year or two to turn things around. Like many posters, I question symptoms wondering if they are celiac related. I haven't been at the top of my game since Memorial Wkd; feeling a little "off". I was hoping it wasn't a delayed reaction to a gluten exposure. A couple weeks ago, I had the dreaded "d" a few...
  7. This is similar to an entree at a wonderful gluten free restaurant in St. Louis. They call it breakfast rice - long grain brown rice, ham chunks, sausage, bacon, onions, red/green peppers. Season with coconut aminos and serve with a fried egg on top.
  8. My absolute new favorite is Dobyns Restaurant Keeter Center at College of the Ozarks in Pt. Lookout, MO. They know what they are doing! They are very aware of the needs of a celiac and asked me if I had any other food issues they needed to address. The chef was willing to try to modify most menu items to allow me to choose what I really wanted. The prime...
  9. Fried egg sandwiches, coconut curry soup, and cantaloupe
  10. I just read a post written on another forum (not a celiac forum) in which a woman with a reputation for being a great cook stated she started eating only homemade sourdough because it makes her feel so much better. She doesn't have celiac, but she wanted others to know that sourdough is much better for celiacs to eat so they can offer it to their guests...
  11. Listen to the above advice. My brother doesn't have symptoms either, and eats out all the time. I'm afraid it's going to catch up with him.
  12. I thought I would follow up on this thread. I didn't talk to the chef at the Hilton, but I found a few restaurants there that could provide meals for me. I don't remember the name of the more expensive one (Bau?) that offered to do a meal, but the Tropics Bar and Grill was fantastic! My son ate there and noticed they had gluten free pancakes on the menu...
  13. If you're not 100% gluten free, you're consuming gluten daily. Pasta and fast food are only the tip of the iceberg.
  14. We bought Two Fat Guys at a gluten free bakery to try (they just sell it - don't make it). It was good!! Then, we found it on clearance at HyVee for $1 a jar. Needless to say, we bought all 28 jars! Yup! $7.99/jar for $1. It must have been the way the store marketed it and where they shelved it because it comes in 4 flavors and is the best I've ever...
  15. Mycasmommy and Kenlove, is it safe to eat a Pineapple Whip and/or a real Hawaiian shaved ice with the beans in the bottom? Those are two things I was told not to miss, but not even sure where to look online to see if they are gluten free.
  16. I have that same problem with another family member that has celiac! I'm told all the time how I go overboard in my thinking, and there's no reason why I can't eat at restaurants as long as I don't order something like a sandwich or french toast.
  17. I tried to get in touch with the company, but they haven't replied, and it's been a couple of weeks. That's why I asked on here. I wouldn't be as much worried about the popcorn as I would be the handling of it and the seasonings.
  18. I hope someone has an answer for you. I love sorghum, and I've been wondering about it, too. I've been using brown rice syrup as a replacement.
  19. My brother and I both have celiac, and we visit our parents frequently. Never in a million years would I expect my parents to eat gluten free just because I must do it. What if the tables were reversed and your dad was the only one with celiac? Would you keep your place gluten free for him? Your parents don't owe you a gluten free household. Take the...
  20. This is what I found on line a year or two ago - WASHINGTON Bibiana is one of my two most favorite restaurants in DC. Chef Stefanelli is wonderful and very well-informed on gluten-free cooking. I haven’t been to Rasika, Fiola by Fabio Trabocchi . Although not my personal favorite, Galileo II is good about gluten-free diners, and even offers gluten-free p...
  21. Insurance covered my first visit to the dietician. After that, I was on my own.
  22. Do you feel safe eating products from Nuts on Clark? They are usually available at airports and train stations. A well meaning friend brought me cheddar popcorn from there because the box said "gluten free". There was nothing else on the box noted about shared facilities, etc. I thanked her, but need a little more info before I eat it.
  23. I went through a few and finally settled on Equate for Women (generic Centrum).
  24. I was diagnosed with Barrett's by endoscopy and was given a script for a ppi. It took trials to find one that didn't make me sick, and I didn't have any reflux symptoms, either. A year after being gluten free, I was told that if I had it, it was minimal. A year later, another endoscope, and I was told that there wasn't any evidence of it. I was told...
  25. I've looked at several recipes for cookies, pie, and cake lately, and they say is coconut milk.
