  1. When a recipe for baking calls for coconut milk, does it mean in the can or box? I'm so confused.
  2. I like the convenience of them. I keep one in ea vehicle, and they have come in handy a few times. There's enough in them to hold off hunger. I think there about 300-400 calories in each one. They are salty, but most packaged food is.

    ARCHIVED Mexican?

Chipotle is trained to wash, change gloves, and prepare carefully. They do vary by restaurant, though, as far as how closely they stick to their trained procedure. Tell them you have celiac, and watch them. The only other gluten free Mexican I have found so far is one in Sausalito, CA. The entire menu is gluten-free, and food is fabulous.
  4. I don't trust anyone but Chipotle because I can watch them change gloves and prepare my order. If it's not a total gluten free restaurant, you're taking a chance no matter where you eat.
  5. My primary care doc found Sjogrens by blood testing She then sent me a rheumatologist to test for some other ai diseases as a precaution.
  6. There are usually fees involved at markets. In my area, a permit to sell at the local Farmer's Market is $400/season which runs from May thru mid Oct.
  7. I will be in Oahu the first week of May staying at the Hilton Hawaiian Resort. I've rented a condo so that I can cook as many meals as possible, and I'm taking a skillet, few utensils, and my own strainer. Any suggestions on safe places to eat ranging from fast (ish) food to a nice sit down dinner with the family? My family is happy to eat most meals at...
  8. I don't know what I do differently, but I just have not had that problem (yet). If your friend is hurt, maybe you should ask her why she's so concerned about what you do/do not eat. Friendship isn't based on food choices. I have been passed over for lunch and coffee outings. When I found out that a couple of friends wanted to meet me at the theatre instead...
  9. What about those freeze dried backpacking meals? Add hot water and stir. The ones I had pre-celiac were really good, and I know they make gluten free ones now. They are light weight and don't take up much space. If nothing else, she could eat one in the morning, snack during the day, and eat another one at night to keep from getting hungry. The last...
  10. I was on a very strict diet for months, also. And, when I could finally have a taste of chocolate it was bad news! It was months before I was slowly able to eat it again. Perhaps that is what is happening to you.
  11. Does Red Apple have to be ordered? If not, where do you buy it? I hate spending money on lipstick sight unseen.
  12. I hardly doubt that Mars is oblivious to their ingredients. They have a reputation to protect. Perhaps you are becoming more sensitive and something else you ate earlier upset you, or you have developed additional food sensitivities. Always check label ingredients. You're also posting on a thread that's two years old, so you would need to recheck Mars...
  13. My gi agrees with kareng's doctor mostly. I have a gluten blood test ev 6 mos. and I'm in my second year of being gluten free (the first year was on again-off again diagnosis so a new dr. was in order). In addition, I had a second endoscopy a year later, and he recommends a repeat ev 3 yrs. I think the gluten test will become less often, but I had some...
  14. You don't need to get rid of your cast iron. Spray with an oven cleaner, leave overnight in a plastic bag, clean well, and reseason. Mine were so clean after this, they looked like they had never been touched. One of mine was over 40 years old, and looked fantastic.
  15. Thanks, bartfull! I did try the gluten/dairy free mac n cheese. It was delicious! That's as close to real dairy that I've had in two years, and the macaroni was made from rice. So far, I'm not sick!
  16. Hello! Amy's gluten free frozen foods look very good, and some are dairy free, which is an extra plus for me. I noticed that some products are identical minus the gluten - such as Amys Mac N Cheese - they make a gluten and a gluten free choice. Would you consider them safe to eat? I don't know anything about the company or their reputation. The label...
  17. There are a lot of people on this forum that eat foods made in shared facilities - but not on shared equipment - with no ill effects. That's why I was wondering. I'll email the company and ask about shared equipment. They are very good!
  18. I just saw a dr. about osteoporosis yesterday. I don't remember my t-score, but it is 3 grades or levels from where it should be. He gave me info on two treatments - Prolia, an ev six months shot, and Forteo, a daily shot. After looking up many, many reviews, I'm scared of both treatments. The side effects sounds worse than the actual problem. I asked...
  19. I really like the Nature Valley granola bars. They come in a few flavors - almond crunch is my favorite!
  20. I bought a bag of Earthly Choice gluten free quinoa pasta blend at Costcos. It's marked as gluten free, but without being certified. There's nothing unusual listed in the ingredients - looks okay - just wandering if anyone else has tried it. Their website doesn't help much.
  21. What I've noticed is that as time goes by, I forget what things taste like, and I no longer want it. My husband was adamant that we have a gluten free kitchen because he was so worried that he might make me sick. When we go to coffee shops, he still gets his cinnamon roll, and it doesn't bother me at all.
  22. Thank you, Laura!
  23. I've been hungry for bacon wrapped little smokies smothered in bbq sauce. Believe me, that is NOTHING that I would've ever wanted before celiac diagnosis. Is it even possible? Do they make those little sausages that are gluten free?
  24. My iron levels have improved, so I was told I can quit taking it. Two weeks later, I do feel fatigued a little more than usual. Dietician said to make sure you get enough fats and proteins, and to start the day with a solid dose of fat/protein rather than carbs. She agreed with the doctor that it's best not to take anything that you really don't need....
  25. What is a tin of coconut milk? Is it the same thing at a can?
