ARCHIVED Gluten Free/soy Free Chocolate
marciab replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've had trouble with soy too, but I can handle organic chocolate bars. I started slowly with the little Bug Bites from my health food store. I have to stick with the plain though. The mint upset my stomach for some reason. I found Green and Black's Organic chocolate at Walmart yesterday. It was $3.28 for a 3.5 oz bar though. It also states that it... -

ARCHIVED Disappointed With Wild Oats Market
marciab replied to marciab's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
TCA, I live in FL, so maybe I could get gator meat ? I will look for other wild sources though. That's a good idea. Thanks for the tip. Actually there is a restaurant near here that sells gator. Tiffany, The manager told me Monday when I called her at noon that they had already cleaned out the meat cases. I am going to have to wait... -

ARCHIVED Disappointed With Wild Oats Market
marciab replied to marciab's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi All, I heard from corporate and store manager today. They assured me that this was not the norm for them and competely unacceptable. Thanks for letting me know your experiences at Wild Oats. I would have written them off if you hadn't told me your positive experiences. They are sending me a gift certificate, so I will at least go back... -

ARCHIVED Do They Really Know How Long It Takes Villi To Heal ?
marciab replied to marciab's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes, thank you Molly. I am memory challenged also. "It said that it depends on how long the damage was incurring and the age of the Celiac. Some can take up to 5 years or more and some just months." I wonder how they determined how long the damage was incurred. I could be looking at 50 years or since I had my gall bladder out 3 years ago. The... -

ARCHIVED Do They Really Know How Long It Takes Villi To Heal ?
marciab replied to marciab's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Nashville, Thanks for replying. I'm sorry to hear that your doc thinks it will take you 6 more months to heal. But on the upside it appears you are healing. I looked at your profile and I didn't see a birthday. Do you mind telling me how old you are ? I am just assuming age will have an affect on healing time too. Armetta, Thanks for... -

ARCHIVED Do They Really Know How Long It Takes Villi To Heal ?
marciab replied to marciab's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It makes since that everyone would be starting from a different damage level and that is why the length of time it takes to heal would be different for everyone. But 6 months still seems like a very long time for the body to heal itself once the offending agent has been removed. I'm wondering if they ever do repeat biopsies prior to six months. And... -
I make Tabouleh too. My first husband was Lebanese, so I learned a lot of good recipes from his family. I make mine with millet too. Had to learn not to over cook the millet though. I use parsley, cuke, tomatoes, green onions (when my tummy allows), olive oil, salt, fresh mint and fresh lemon juice. It all has to be fresh ingredients or it just...

ARCHIVED Do They Really Know How Long It Takes Villi To Heal ?
marciab posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am wondering because if going gluten free prior to having immune system tests run can affect the results, why can't we assume that it will affect the villi as well ? Six months seems like a really long time for a body part to heal. They send new mothers back to work after only 6 weeks. Did they subject the same individuals to multiple biopsies... -

ARCHIVED Has Anyone Tried A Colon Cleanse Product ?
marciab replied to marciab's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
VRaths, I am not turning up my nose to the whole colon cleanse idea. I am pro colon cleansing, I'm just not sure I need to use a product such as those being advertised on TV to accomplish this. I have read that there are a lot of all natural foods and herbs that can clean the colon as well. So, I want to try something that is less likely to cause... -

I was also thinking that you could get creative and feed them gluten free foods without telling them. Pretend you are in Japan, speaking Japanese and eating Japanese food one day and then China the next, etc. Teach them a little about China, Japan, Mexico, etc. so the kids will think they are having fun. That way they won't concentrate too much on... -

ARCHIVED Help .. How Do I Know When To Stop Seizure Meds ?
marciab replied to marciab's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Armetta, That's great that you could stop cold turkey like that. It definitely gives me hope. Are you still ok ? How long had you been on the Klonopin ? I'm afraid that since I have been on Klonopin / a seizure med for about 16 years now, my body may not be able to function without this med. I didn't realize Klonopin has corn in it. I... -

ARCHIVED Help .. How Do I Know When To Stop Seizure Meds ?
marciab replied to marciab's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That's great that you are off of your pain meds. Were you able to stop them all at once or did you have to wean off of them ? It's exciting to watch the progress, I just wish it was quicker. Good tip, I will try crushing it and putting it in applesauce. Figuring out which foods are causing non digestive issues is so tricky. I figured out... -

ARCHIVED Disappointed With Wild Oats Market
marciab replied to marciab's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Tiffany, Michael, Armetta, I went on their website and emailed them. Hopefully, they will get it cleaned up. It wouldn't be so gross if I would just throw away the meat I bought and go buy something else. Then I wouldn't be thinking about flies everytime I eat it. It's just that I am just having such a tough time finding all natural meat that... -

ARCHIVED Help .. How Do I Know When To Stop Seizure Meds ?
marciab replied to marciab's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ursula, Love the picture of you and the baby. I'm sorry to see that you have been through a lot of illness too. I love that we have figured this out and wish others could too. Are you better or still making progress ? I am down to 1/8 of a tablet, but I guess I can find a way to reduce that even if I have to bite it off. Marcia -

ARCHIVED Disappointed With Wild Oats Market
marciab replied to marciab's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Patti, They are taking over where a bankrupt Winn Dixie closed out about 2 months ago. So, thankfully, they don't have to build. I am psyched about it . I live in a relatively small town in Fl, so I am hoping Whole Foods will keep their store clean. That is why Winn Dixie failed. So hopefully they will keep that in mind. Andrea, I... -

ARCHIVED Help .. How Do I Know When To Stop Seizure Meds ?
marciab posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am so confused .... I reduced my Klonopin from .5 mg to .0625 mg (appr. since I am splitting the pills) over a two month period because it was making me feel completely drugged. Then two days ago, I tried to stop it completely, but had tremours so bad I had to take it again. I couldn't sleep either. The problem is that I don't know if I got gluttened... -

ARCHIVED Disappointed With Wild Oats Market
marciab posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well, I finally made it to the Wild Oats market 45 minutes south of me. I had heard how much better and bigger it was than my local health food store. It was definitely bigger, at least 3 times the size, but not better. The meat storage units smelled like old rotted meat and there was a fly on one of the meat packages. I was hungry for meat (I am... -

ARCHIVED Has Anyone Tried A Colon Cleanse Product ?

Thanks for posting that website. It is obviously slanted against a natural healing methodology. But, it is always good to hear any perspective on the subject. I haven't read the whole site (I have dr. appt in 1 hour and I have to get raedy), but so far I haven't seen anything in there about all the problems with using traditional medicine for GI problems... -

Hi there ... I can really empathize with you on this ... My daughter started doing this about 3 years ago. Do you have an epipen ? You won't always need it, as you just figured out from your last experience, but it is good to have on hand just in case you do. My daugter used a couple of epipens when she first started doing this, but since has... -

I finally gave in and called the 800 number to see just what was in the "A....... Cleanse". You will not believe what the first ingredient is .... physillium ... Then flax, apple pectin, slippery elm, barberry, black walnut, ginger and magnesium stearate. I looked up the ingredients in my Presc for Nut Healing book and just for the sake of... -

ARCHIVED Has Anyone Tried A Colon Cleanse Product ?
marciab replied to marciab's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I tried Metamucil (physillium) capsules and I bloated up like a blow fish. I took them for 5 days before figuring out that they were not going to work for me. I think ya'll are right. These products are probably ok for people with otherwise healthy digestive systems, but not us. It's too bad there isn't an organization to monitor these products... -

ARCHIVED Has Anyone Tried A Colon Cleanse Product ?
marciab replied to marciab's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi guys, Thanks for the replies, but I'm not constipated anymore since going on this diet. I was asking about the colon cleanse products because of what they said about the gunk getting stuck on the sides of our colons. They claim that their products are they only way to get rid of that. I was thinking if we have that gunk sitting there then it... -

ARCHIVED Effectiveness Of Drugs
marciab replied to Caeli's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had to cut my Klonopin back from .5 mg to .125 mg because I was feeling completely drugged at the .5 mg dosage about 2 months ago. Approximately 6 months after going gluten free. I kepted lowering it from .5 to .125 gradually because I still felt drugged at the lesser doses too. It was prescribed for nocturnal myoclonous and my current dosage appears... -

Hi All, Does anyone know how these colon cleanse products work and what's in them. There are a couple of them that are being advertised heavily on the tv right now. They claim that gunk gets stuck to the sides of our colon walls and how we need to use their product to clean it out. But, I don't understand how gunk could get stuck, since stomach... -

ARCHIVED Compelling Reasons For Dx Via Biopsy?
marciab replied to cshinaberry19's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sorry to hear you have CFS, I have had CFIDS / FM for 16 years. So in my humble opinion, since you are not gluten-free yet, I would go have the biopsy done. That way you'll have it over with and will never regret not having it done. I regret not having it done, but it is too late for me. I have seen a positive response from the gluten-free diet and can...
