ARCHIVED Enterolab Or York
marciab replied to Corkdarrr's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Boy, do I know where you are coming from I had to try wheat 3 seperate times to convince me that I didn't want to try it anymore. I am just thick headed that way. But, I have to say, I am no longer interested AT ALL !! One of the times I cheated was when my daughter brought home Carraba's bread + oil + spices. That time I practically tore... -

ARCHIVED Feelings Of Becoming A Complete Obsessive-compulsive Freak
marciab replied to michelleL's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've been this way off and on. Especially since I don't have a positive biopsy or lab test. I am determined to keep gluten out of my life though. Even if it means inconveniencing (is that a word ?) a few pharmacists. So, far, I have just told nurses, etc. that apparently I am a celiac since I no longer have seizures since getting off gluten. It... -

ARCHIVED Once You Know What Food Problems You Have...
marciab replied to FaithInScienceToo's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
1 - Add healthy fats into the diet. EVOO, grapeseed, flax, borage, etc in natural form. 2 - Keep bowels moving by eating additional fruits and veggies. 3 - Eliminate processed foods. As much as possible anyway. Marcia -

ARCHIVED Back To Nature Rice Thins Gluten Free?
marciab replied to dahams04's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've been eating the sesame ginger ones. I love the taste. And they appear to be fine. BUT, the person I spoke with at Back to Nature told me that they could only guarantee that the box I had was gluten free based on the upc code. So I was only ok with that box. That was not reassuring at all. I'm thinking she was only quoting what she was... -

ARCHIVED Has Anyone Tried Trazodone For Sleep Deprivation
marciab replied to marciab's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I thought I would give ya'll an update on all of this. I've been drinking black cohosh and valerian root tea at night. I found several herbs that were good for hot flashes. Anise, black cohosh, fennel, licorice, etc. I tried don quai, but it killed my stomach and I smelled like it for days. I can't do supplements though and this was a supplement... -

ARCHIVED Nuts
marciab replied to JeanC's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I get raw shelled nuts from the bins at my local health food store. They are stored in the kind of bin where you have to lift a plastic slot and they fall out from the bottom and hopefully into your plastic bag. No scoops and no hands can get into them. Unless you are over 8 ft tall. So far, so good. Marcia -
Congratulations !! I've noticed that my glasses are too strong for me now. Everything is huge when I have them on. So, I am wearing them less. I haven't been tested to confirm anything yet. It'll be interesting to see though. Pun intented.

ARCHIVED Buying In Bulk Question
marciab replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I wouldn't buy my flour this way, but I get all my beans this way. I like the bins they have where you simply push up on a panel and your stuff comes out the bottom. No scoops. This is the kind my health store uses for nuts, millet, seeds, etc. Marcia -
This is interesting. My stomach was doing this too. Feels like child birth , except in your stomach, since the spasms continue at regular intervals and get more severe if you don't take anything ??? Eventually my stomach would be in one big knot. And it would take days to get it to relax again. A liquid / soft foods diet helps it heal. Donnatol...

ARCHIVED Coping With Relatives That Don't Understand
marciab replied to LonelyWolf307's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Have you tried printing the info from the NIH out for him and highlighting the part about it being a life long committment ? And the reprocussions of not following the gluten-free diet. I would just present it to him in a non threatening way. Like posting it on the frig. With a big heart and a love you note. Subtle, but effective. You could also... -

ARCHIVED Apples
marciab replied to Fiddle-Faddle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was wondering about this too. The rep at Publix (I emailed them earlier this year) told me that he only knows about them dyeing oranges at this point. I didn't ask which company because I can't eat citrus right now. Scarey, huh ? -

ARCHIVED Article By Harvard Folks
marciab replied to queenofhearts's topic in Publications & Publicity
I found this link on the dailystrength.org website. Under the question "Can you develop celiac disease as an adult ? " I'm pretty sure this is the original article from Harvard. Celiac disease can develop later in life Q: Can you develop celiac disease as an adult? A: Yes, you can. In fact, the average age of diagnosis for this disease is 4... -

ARCHIVED Newbie Questions Re Elimination Diet
marciab replied to kathy2005's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I eliminated gluten, eggs, dairy, corn and soy all at once. And anything else that I suspected hurt my stomach (coffee, tea, etc.). My stomach was killing me though. I found it easier to go down to the bare bones diet. Whole fresh fruits and veggies and hormone free meat. And I still feel better if I eat this way. I tried reading the labels... -
I was diagnosed with this back in 2004. Endoscopy was positive, but the gastric emptying test was negative. I have a hiatal hernia too. Mine was never that bad. I just couldn't eat a lot at one time. FYI: Muscle relaxers and narcotics slow down your digestion and should be avoided. Marcia

ARCHIVED Probiotics
marciab replied to tammy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was never happy with any of the supplements I bought, so now I drink kefir. I know it is kept cold and will always have live bacteria in it. I get the Helios gluten free plain from my health food store. -

Jodi, Thanks for replying. Sorry to hear about your heart and liver issues. Sounds like we could both use a good sleep med. TERESE, I tried to get some Trazodone today, but no luck. So, tonight I am trying benadryl. I hate the way it dries me out, but I have to try something. A friend of mine gave me some don quai and it is giving... -

ARCHIVED Article By Harvard Folks
marciab replied to queenofhearts's topic in Publications & Publicity
I just posted a comment in response to their line about it taking 11 years to diagnose celiac. Can you believe some place like Harvard would think that was acceptable ?? AAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh !!!! What are they thinking ?? -

marciab replied to marciab's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Susan, Thanks for replying. Yep, I just started feeling good about this diet and now this. Ya'll are giving me a lot of good ideas on sleep meds. ARCHIVED How Much Gluten To Test Yourself?
marciab replied to Mopsiehoney's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I can't afford Enterolab at this point, so I did a couple of wheat challenges. And I just ate as much wheat as I wanted since it was probably going to be the last time I ate wheat, I figured I might as well enjoy it. I had different reactions to wheat when I did my wheat challenges. One of the challenges I got "D" right away and sharp abdominal pains...
