ARCHIVED Puking Child... Whats Best Move? Brat?
marciab replied to VydorScope's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would give him Gatorade, pedialyte, water or Sprite / 7-up that has been stirred up to get the bubbles out. Hope he feels better soon. Good luck tonight Marcia -
Some of the fish oil supplements also contain soy in the form of tocopheral. It is in the fine print of course.

Mung bean sprouts and I think lentil sprouts are susposed to be a really good source of protein as well as all nuts. I had trouble with nuts and sprouts in the beginning, but not anymore. Go slow and reintroduce the ones that bother you at a later date. I'm interested in the raw diet recipes you learn. I tried a raw dish at my local health food store...

ARCHIVED Whats On Your Grocery List?
marciab replied to amber-rose's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Lightly sautee garlic in pan with EVOO. Add leftover meat of choice, fresh raw spinach, eggplant, leeks, hot peppers and tomatoes. Cook for about 3 minutes. Serve over grain of choice. Try adding calamata olives and plain yogurt to this. Also, if you are feeling adventurous, try sauteeing artichokes, snap peas and tomatoes together and putting... -
Actually, I am good now. Thanks for the replies , but I took Tom's advice from my other sleep med post ( I was going a little buggy there for awhile ) and increased my activity level. And I have been sleeping like a log for a whole week now med and herbal tea free.

There is a lot of info on the web about omegas, nutrients and the brain. See mindscience.org. or Google brain nutrients. I have much less brain fog nowadays. But, part of my problem was hypoglycemia. And I am extra sensitive to all processed grains. I don't take any supplements because I can't digest them. If you do, be sure to read the ingredients...

ARCHIVED Allergic Reactions From Other Foods
marciab replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My reactions are very different. This is what I have figured out over the last year. My stomach goes into spasm immediately from soy and corn. I also get a lot, I mean a lot of phlegm (sp) in my throat from soy milk. Dairy gives me runny and sometimes floating stools. I get horrible gas from eggs. And I get sleepy and sharp pains in my colon from gluten... -

ARCHIVED Rise In Celiacs Or More Awareness?
marciab replied to up-late's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was thinking the same thing. I would love to be able to do this for those who are too sick to try this on their own. Think we can get the NIH to sponsor it ?? -

ARCHIVED For Those Who Give Themselves B12 Injections
marciab replied to TERESE's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I am a wooze too. I almost passed out everytime in the beginning. I had to start by just getting used to looking at the needle. And now, if I don't get it in the first time I get woozy. I give them to myself on the top and to the right a little of my right thigh where I am extra meaty. I sit on the toilet and do it. Less chance of falling over.... -

ARCHIVED Trouble With Lebanese Food?
marciab replied to ekdumas19's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
"stuffed grape leaf and some rice with that syrian pepper(which i think is basically just cinnamon and nutmeg and stuff) and some lamb." My ex is Lebanese and I love the food. The things you listed are gluten free, but "Real" pita bread is a hearty kind of bread that comes in 12" round pieces that is broken up to share with others. You normally see... -
Most people can eat the safe foods I listed so that would at least give you a place to start. My whole digestive system was a mess from top to bottom too. I had food coming up the wrong way and food coming out - well you really don't want to know I have felt awful most of the time for about 16 years now, so I would not have noticed a detox. I...

It actually an easy concept. Especially since you already are familiar with withdrawals and food deprivation. Just get the common food allergy / sensitivities (soy, dairy, eggs, corn - you already took out wheat) and anything else that you know tears up your digestive tract out of your diet. For me that meant meat, tomatoes, chocolate, coffee, onions...

ARCHIVED Doctors Vs. Pharmaceutical Companies
marciab replied to ms-sillyak-screwed's topic in Doctors
I was thinking that we need to get the makers of gluten free foods involved. They stand to make a lot of money if this catches on. The biggest objections I have seen from people I know has been the cost of the diet and the inconvenience. The transition from gluten containing foods to gluten free foods would so much easier if we had better food resources... -
I completely empathize with your situation. I got divorced over my CFIDS/FM. He is a control freak and this pushed him over the edge. I was crushed though. Husbands are supposed to be our best friends. Have you considered going gluten-free for a couple of days just to show him that it makes a difference ? You know you feel better after 3...

I had the sirloin steak, plain brocolli and pico yesterday and it was very good. The pico is just tomatoes, onions and peppers. No vinegar. And yes, the EVOO queen had them bring her EVOO on the side. I had been there on Monday and no one knew what gluten free was, but yesterday, Saturday, they took the time to hand me one of their gluten free...

ARCHIVED Optimal Diet For Celiacs
marciab replied to Phila's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I bought a sprouting kit at my health food store that is basically a mason jar with three plastic lids with different size holes in them. They are $5.89 at the store and online at www.texasbestunlimited.com. Look up sprouting supplies and then The jar. I have 2 kits now, but could use a third. I widened a very small section of the lid with the extra small... -

ARCHIVED Feeling Bummed About My Ever-narrowing Diet.
marciab replied to frenchiemama's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I know how hard it is to give up your old foods, but this process is much easier if you start looking at what you can eat. I've discovered new foods that I love now. The bumble bar, Back to Nature rice thins, papaya, mangos, buckwheat, quinoa, spagetti squash, raw nuts, mung sprouts, dried figs and apricots, etc. Hang in there... It does get easier... -

ARCHIVED On gluten-free Diet But No Improvement
marciab replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I made several mistakes in the beginning ... OK, I still do ... The worst thing I did was to immediately start eating gluten free processed grains like they were going out of style ... Empty calories. And I am hypoglycemic. The other huge mistake was to start drinking meal replacements. Most meal replacements have something, even in the... -

ARCHIVED What Does It Feel Like When You Can't Tolerate Eggs?
marciab replied to mesmerize's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I would have gotten spacey from the processed grains and sugar in the cookie. Eggs cause me to get horrible gas. Try eating just eggs and see how you do. Boil them so you know if it is just the eggs you are reacting too. -

New Here! celiac disease & Epilepsy?
marciab replied to Snap's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I was never diagnosed with epilepsy, but I do have a history of nocturnal myoclonus (uncontrollable movements) and the myoclonus that affects your hands. I was unable to write legibly. Both have gone away within the last month and I am medicine free. I also cleaned up my diet though and avoid dairy, eggs, soy, corn and the "crap" found in processed... -
A burning tongue can also be a sign of oral allergies. Just avoid that food for a day or two and test again. I was doing this when I ate cantaloupe about 2 weeks ago, but it went away within a couple of days. I eat a lot of cantaloupe. And still do. Acidic foods are very hard on your stomach. Stick to apples, pears, bananas, etc.

ARCHIVED Need A Sleep Remedy....need To Sleep....
marciab replied to sparkles's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I am struggling with this too. But mostly because I was on sleep meds (klonopin) for so long (16 years) that I forgot how to sleep on my own. I had some luck with the valerian root tea, benadryl and chamomile tea, but nothing that kept me sleeping 7 hours for more than one or two nights. But still you can try those and know you will get some sleep... -

ARCHIVED How Do I Decide Which Diagnosis To Pursue?
marciab replied to mythreesuns's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I was overwhelmed by the treatment choices too. Everything I have read on the net indicated that my diet was full of "crap". Processed grains, msg, sugar, caffeine, pesticides, etc. I've read and seen first hand that medical tests are not always reliable enough to tell us what is wrong. And even then, some doctors don't know or run the right tests... -
I tried a friend's trazodone a couple of weeks ago and I slept great, but it gave me weird dreams. My doc told me that meant I shouldn't take it. But, thanks anyway.

My doc gave me Rozerem today for sleep. I called to the company and a pharmacist for Takeda, the manufacturer of Rozerem told me that she could not confirm that it is gluten free. Furthermore, since the FDA is currently evaluating this med, she could not discuss any of the ingredients with me. But, that my doctor could call her and as a courtesy to...
