  1. At times like those (I'm trying to figure out if casein is a problem for me or not), I just go strictly with whole foods. No packaged/processed stuff. Well, packaged pasta I will get, 'cause the ingredients are so simple. Same thing with unsweetened soy milk, and a few other very basic things. But other than that... whole foods. I know there is a list...
  2. don't forget that the recaldent found in some gums is a milk derivative, so if you're sensitive to casein (not just lactose intolerant, I think), you will react to it.
  3. I definitely don't have DH, but have had that happen on occasion. Quite frankly, it feels like allergies to me, and Benadryl has always helped it. I don't know the exact cause, but I suspect it's a histamine response to something environmental (for me).
  4. being gluten free may very well have given you a false negative. you would need to eat plenty of gluten for ... I think many people suggest 6-8 weeks... before the tests are done.
  5. chasefamily, Do NOT go gluten-free until you have completed your tests. Going gluten-free will alter the results.
  6. I used to always play music to get to sleep - until I was 19 or so, but my husband got tired of it and asked me to try to stop. It took a little while to get used to it, but I'm fine without any noise now.

  8. amy, you might want to consider charter. the only thing I've found that delays my ovulation is ingesting gluten, so if you have an accident, you may need to alter when you "try".

  12. I'm not sure that false positives exist for blood tests either - not when taken as a whole panel. Gliandin is the protein in wheat, and if you're forming anti-gliandin antibodies, the only thing you could be reacting to is gliandin, the protein in wheat. ;-)

  15. You could always make your own macadamia nut butter. You'd probably want a Cuisinart type food processor, rather than a blender, but you just put the nuts in and go!
  16. You could absolutely be causing damage without having a positive blood test result. You don't get antibodies in the blood stream until you've done enough damamge to the intestines that the antibodies can pass through. And some people react more strongly than others, doing damage without having a lot of symptoms. A biopsy is the classic method of diagnosis...
  17. I haven't particularly noticed that, but it makes sense, as you've already gotten the nerves in that area going! But I have noticed that - as far as I can tell - gluten-contamination is the one thing that can really delay ovulation for me. (I chart, so I can tell when I ovulate.) I could be wrong, but it's seemed to be true so far in the past 12 months...
  18. Yep, I've had peanut, cashew, almond, hazelnut, and sunflower butter. I really didn't like the hazelnut butter very much, and the cashew butter was alright. I do like the almond butter, and will sometimes get it instead of peanut butter. The sunflower butter was much thinnner, and it was alright, but I don't tend to voluntarily get it any more. ;-)
  19. I found one cheese alternative that really was soy and dairy (and gluten) free. (A particular rice cheese, as I recall.) It was amazingly nasty, I spit out the piece in my mouth and threw out the whole package.

  21. Just for reference, most venues must - by law - make allowances for disability (which celiac counts as, in this sense) including allowing you to bring your own food. Call the customer service number, when in doubt, and don't be afraid to give them heck! (I do!)

I haven't had that problem, and I don't know how much is the people I've known, or the area I've grown up in, but everyone has some allergy or some dislike...   23. celiac3270 - most of the rice pasta does seem to take longer than the average semolina pasta, but the quinoa pasta is definitely a fast cooking one - I think it's the corn, because the other corn pasta I had cooked very quickly as well.
  24. I have had no follow up either, but I was never very sick at all. I think that my internist, the one who DXed me, just wasn't concerned enough by my inconclusive test results (though she accepted the results of the dietary challenge) and otherwise fairly good health to check on anything else. She's just an internist, and isn't _that_ knowledgeable on celiac...
  25. Centrum says that their mulitvit (the regular one) is gluten-free. I think they may have said all of their vits are gluten-free, but I don't remember off the top of my head, only for the regular multi since I take that one. ;-)
