Dad, there is a specialised bakery called Open Original Shared Link near Selfridge ANG Base in Macomb County MI. If that is close to where you live you could check it out. All their products are gluten free. You could get bread there fresh baked as well as some desert items. They have a little bit of grocery items too. They do ship if people out of the...

Thanks for the ideas. Now, what type of frosting or icing can you do that is dairy free? Can you just use soy milk with the powdered sugar and some Crisco type shortening and vanilla? This little boy should have his decorated cake if we can find a decent recipe for his Mom. Once we have the icing, I will be sending the link to this thread to the Mom...

A friend on another site has a little boy who needs cake! "Okay I really need help!! I'm not a baker! I love to cook and hate to bake. My darling wonderful son is going to be 3 on 12/11 and has been saying that he wants to have friends, cake and candles. Well he is allergic to wheat, corn, milk & eggs! I have no idea what to do. I have looked in...

ARCHIVED Haven't Been Intimate In Months, But Funny...
paw replied to lorka150's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
jrom987: I forgot to say that you might need more time before your system calms down and your bloating stops. Each person responds at their own rate, depending on how long they were having problems and the amount of damage. Also many people have problems with diary or other foods and they may need to remove those too. -
ARCHIVED Haven't Been Intimate In Months, But Funny...
paw replied to lorka150's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am still new at this whole thing, but I have been reading posts here for weeks. Hopefully I soaked up a little information along the way. Many Celiacs are thin, but some are heavy. I read (I can't remember the source, sorry) that it depends on which part of the small intestine is most damaged what symptoms you will have. If the damage is at the beginning... -
ARCHIVED Haven't Been Intimate In Months, But Funny...
paw replied to lorka150's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The balloon thing that went up and down was me before July. Sometime in July it "pouffed" and stayed that way. That was when the family doctor told me she thought it was more than a dairy problem that was making me so big in the belly. I bought a pair of jeans that are size 16 1/2 for girls plus size. I am 5' 4" so even the length is ok. These have... -
Thank you. I was more upset with the Customer Service person for refusing to tell me than I would be to know the soap is not good for me to use. I don't know what all those ingredients really are. I never had to think about these things before.

I look pregnant too. Last winter I wore my son's old blue jeans size 30 waist and they were loose. In July the "big bloat" kicked in and won't go away. Now my belly measures 37 inches on a big day 35 inches on other days. There is no way to find pants to fit such a swollen gut. I have considered maternity pants, but I have not found any that look... -
ARCHIVED Well I Just Found Out I Have Celiac Disease
paw replied to Baston8005's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Dad, I am pretty new at this too. Diabetes does often go along with Celiac Disease. You are right to worry about cross contamination of your little girl's food. If your family cooks say regular wheat pasta and drains it in a strainer and then drains special pasta for your daughter, she will have gluten in her pasta. A few wheat bread crumbs will add... -
Your Russian style bread sounds interesting. Would you like to share your recipe and flour mix? You could either post it or PM me. Thanks! Jackie, I am sorry your friends are clueless sometimes. Part of that is being a teen, and part is just rude or ignorant. I hope they learn better manners soon. In the meantime, don't bother to share your treats...

Bumping an old thread, but I have a gripe. Today I called Wal-Mart to see if their liquid hand soap was gluten-free. There was a 800 number on the bottle. I have lots of this already at home. Lady: Aren't the ingredients listed? Yes, but is there any gluten in this soap? Lady: It is our policy not to say anything is gluten-free. We don't use...

Look what I found on my gastroenterologist's website (which linked me with a larger patient information site) Open Original Shared Link "Gas can collect anywhere in the lower intestine. Often it collects on the left side of the colon, and the pain can be confused with heart disease. When gas collects on the right side of the colon, the pain can be like...

ARCHIVED Trip To Dietician (rant & Long)
paw replied to bluesky8130's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
About a year ago I was told I had a severe dairy intolerance and doc sent me to a hospital dietitian. No one was suggesting I had a wheat problem at that time. She is responsible for deciding the special diet of hospital patients and has a RD after her name. Ok, $30 co-pay. She tells me to eat low fat, low sugar, no eggs because it is better for... -
ARCHIVED Shoul I Cooperate With My Gastroenterologist?
paw replied to ashhm's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ashley, I could almost have written your post. My biggest symptom has been abdominal bloating to the point that I look pregnant, but there are lots of others too like not being able to eat dairy. I have had colonoscopy and endoscopy and biopsies. I did not get results yet. I am not going gluten free until I find out if I need blood work done too. I think... -
My belly is huge! I have gone up at least 3 pants sizes since July and I have not gained weight. I have been tested for Celiac, (biopsy) but no results yet. I have been non-dairy for about a year and then the doc told me she thinks I have a problem with wheat too and sends me to a gastroenterologist. The thing with my bloating is that it does not...

ARCHIVED I Bought A Gf Donut At Wf Yesterday!
paw replied to Billygoat's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Open Original Shared Link As posted above, this bakery (totally gluten-free) does have donuts. They are not bad at all, my first gluten-free food. I have to admit that they are better fresh than a few days old or out of the freezer. It might be worth a try if you want a donut. -
ARCHIVED (n) True & Tried Gluten Free Recipes
paw replied to internetnut's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Open Original Shared Link Hopefully by now you have read through a few pages of new recipes. I am new here and I am trying to read through that section and there are LOTS of ideas there. As another new person trying to figure this whole thing out I suggest that you work on meals with plain cooked meats (no sauce, grilled or baked maybe) and lots... -

Do you have dry eyes? I was reading something in the million pages I looked at trying to learn about Celiac that said you can have vision problems. They did not really specify what kind of problems though and just suggested a eye exam if your vision changes. I have very dry eyes and when I wake up I have to either put in the artifical tears or just... -
Open Original Shared Link Lots of places sell these peelers, this link is only to show what they look like. This is a great thing to have if you like to bake with apples or peel and slice them for kids snacks. I can do enough for a large pie in about 5 minutes. You have to rinse and dry the peeler after use so it does not rust. It takes about 30 seconds...

I am a real newbie, regardless of the label under my name. I could post to a bunch of threads and that would not really increase my knowledge of Celiac and how to live with it. All the READING I have been doing for several months has helped a bit though. I am not going to put a lot of importance on the number of posts alone, I will see if what a person...

Hello everyone. I am new. I am still being diagnosed so I don't know if they will call me Celiac or not. I certainly have a lot of symptoms that are consistant. My family doctor and the gastroenterologist both suspect that I have problems with wheat, but no true diagnosis yet. I have been hanging out here and READING everything. It is a whole...

ARCHIVED Help For Someone In China?
paw replied to MWhitmore's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I went to a local Chinese Grocery store and they sold tapioca starch which I was told is the same as flour. You might see if that is available where you are. If they are different, you might be able to substitute for the flour. I am new to this and I don't have any recipes yet. I hope this helps.
