ARCHIVED Celiac Symptoms? Im Miserable
Fenrir replied to candacehp143's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah, that rash could be a pretty good sign that you might have celiac, plus the other things you are experience fit as well. I'd go see your physician and get a celiac panel done and have them look at that rash. Better yet, see if you can see a GI doctor. -

ARCHIVED Allium Intolerance Really Celiac Disease?
Fenrir replied to Jerseybean's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Chances are if the gastro doc says by looking at your duodenum that she thinks you have Celiac it is correct. Biopsies can be false negative but if the doctor can tell you have it before even seeing the biopsy results it's about as good a diagnosis as you're going to get. -
ARCHIVED Possible Celiac?

I have some anxiety over this. I think it is most likely that I have Celiac but my mother had a liver failure due to Hep C and alcohol, but part of me can't help but think maybe she had PBC or something like that and it just wasn't diagnosed. It's probably just me being anxious I suppose. -

Very well could be Celiac. In a case like yours the only way to know for sure is do a gluten-free trial and see if you feel better. There are a small number of people who can have all the tests done and stil come up negative but still either have a celiac or a sensativity to gluten. -
ARCHIVED This Itchy Skin Has Got To Stop!
Fenrir replied to tonalynn's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Little late here but Liver Function tests are probably a good thing to check. People who have liver issues, permanent or temp, tend to have itchy skin. -

Fenrir replied to shirleytx's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yeah, now that we know it is likely celiac my wife says that now that she thinks of it I do get gumpy when I eat too many carbs. She thought maybe I was getting diabetic or something but it probably just happened that a lot of those carbs had gluten in them. -
I didn't know this until I got married but the wife pointed out that I eat one item at a time in a clockwise way. I also have issues with textures of food. Eggs make me gag.

Thanks, it's a strange sort of club. Not a club that I wanted to be in but seems like a good groupd of people around here so it can only be good. -

Fenrir replied to sarahdea's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Good to see things are getting better. I'm in the midst of a bad run myself but know it will get better. Daughter had cranial surgery in June Mom died in June at age of 52 Had to put my father in-law in a nursing home after Christmas due to dementia Slipped on ice in late November and tore my ACL and MCL. Right around christmas time starting having... -
ARCHIVED Possible Celiac?
Fenrir replied to Fenrir's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, they have been very thorough. CT, MRI, Ultrasound, HIDA Scan, EGD, and practically every blood test under the sun. EGD was done before they realized it could be Celiac so no biopsies were done for celiac. Fair to say that they've ruled out practically everything else. I have to schedule a biopsy, soon but still on gluten so I don't mess up the results... -

ARCHIVED 3 Years And Counting!
Fenrir replied to ~**caselynn**~'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm glad to hear it is working out for you. I just had my tTG IgA come back as weak positive (which I understand is positive or not like a pregnancy test) so seems like I probably have celiac. So I'm hoping when I go Gluten-Free I get similar results. -
ARCHIVED Possible Celiac Symptoms?
Fenrir replied to doug10's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah, it seems like the tTG-IgA is the gold standard right now but DGP is becoming more accpeted as well. Chances are if your tTG IgA is positive you more than likely have Celiac, it's somewhere 95-100% specific to celiac and 90% sensative. So, 90% of people with celiac will be positive and of those 90% that are positve 95-100% will have celiac. A small... -

ARCHIVED Possible Celiac Symptoms?
Fenrir replied to doug10's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If it was enterolab, I have read that using their methods results in about 30% of people who do not have celiac testing positive. Again, doesn't mean that you don't have it or that your result isn't accurate but it is far from diagnostic. I think if you really think you could have celiac you should just ask your Dr. to order the TTG IgA testing and see... -
ARCHIVED Possible Celiac?
Fenrir replied to Fenrir's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah, that's the way I see it. I'd rather have celiac, know it, know how to deal with it and know I'm more than likely going to be fine than end up with some of the other problems it could be instead. -
ARCHIVED Possible Celiac Symptoms?
Fenrir replied to doug10's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thos are some of the symptoms of Celiac but there are many other disease that have those as well. For instance, a hiatal hernia can cause reflux and bloating after eating. Drinking pop/soda tends to give people the burps and I believe a hernia can make that worse. I'm no doctor but given you have a diagnosed hiatal hernia that seems to fit pefectly with... -
ARCHIVED Possible Celiac?
Fenrir replied to Fenrir's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I just called my brothers and told them to get tested as well. One has neurological issues from an unknown cause and the other has been diagnosed with Sarcoidosis, so it seems we have a strong run of autoimmune diseases in the genes. -
ARCHIVED Possible Celiac?
Fenrir replied to Fenrir's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Now that I look back I may have been having celiac symptoms for quite some time now. The problem was that I think until recently the symtoms were so random and hadn't yet interfered with my everydaty life that much so I just thought it was normal. Also, makes me wonder if I had this as a kid given I'm the shortest male in the family by a good margin. -

Fenrir replied to Fenrir's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks, for the replies. While I don't want to have celiac disease, at least it looks like I might have an answer and might finally stop wondering what is wrong with me. In a way, I hope the biopsy confirms it so that I can move on with life. At least if it is Celiac I can just stop eating gluten and things should be a lot better. -
ARCHIVED Possible Celiac?
Fenrir replied to Fenrir's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Also, from what I've read if you are positive at all you pretty likely have Celiac. Isn't it something like 85-95% if you are positive at all? -
ARCHIVED Possible Celiac?
Fenrir replied to Fenrir's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, my Dr. called me and said that the liver enzymes are mildly elevated and the celiac tests came back mildly positive. So, he says I need to have an endoscopy done to get a biopsy to confirm it. Can celiac cause liver enzymes to be elevated? -
ARCHIVED Possible Celiac?
Fenrir replied to Fenrir's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for the replies. Don't remember which celiac tests he ordered exactly but I believe it included the IgA, IgG, and TTG. It might say on the paperwork he gave me so if I find that I will post it later. When I get the results back I will post them, he said it might be mid week next week before they are all back. I will stay in gluten until...
