I have been just using corn tortillas. They are cheap and taste good, different texture than flour ones though.

ARCHIVED Non-Gold Standard Dx Or No Dx--Which Is Better?
Fenrir replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Why is it impossible to get it via blood test? Do you mean that they were negative? Celiac Disease can be diagnosed outside of diagnostic testing but many physicians wouldn't be comfortable doing it without extensive testing to rule most everything else out. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free At Fast Food Place?

Yeah, this Chipotle location won my business when I need to grab something quick. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free At Fast Food Place?
Fenrir replied to Fenrir's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Well, I went out and ate at Chipotle. Had a great experience. I just told the employee that I can't eat gluten or I'll get sick and he took his gloves off, washed hands, regloved with new gloves, then put a fresh paper in the bottom of a basket as to not contamitate it with the stuff they just slide down the bar. He was training in a new employee in and... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Symptoms And Testing
Fenrir replied to claraZ's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah, I understand that. Waiting for labs to come back is hard, no doubt about that. You could do the home test and see what happens, if it comes back positive it will make it a lot easier to get your Dr. to do the blood tests. Of course, that is assuming the kit isn't too expensive. -
I have to admit the idea of a Celiac going to a place called Macaroni grill gave me a chuckle.

ARCHIVED Gluten Free At Fast Food Place?
Fenrir replied to Fenrir's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Looks like Chipotle has Tacos, Burrito Bowls and Salads. Taco Bell has the XXL Steak Taco. Chick-fil-A has a good number of things. No in-and-out here. Qboda actually has some good looking stuff on the menu and I love Wendy's chili. Good to know I have some good choices out there. Thanks! -

I'm very suspicious of any home kit of any sort. If at all possible get the blood tests done via your Drs. office. It's hard to say how going gluten free for 13 days would affect the tests, but I think you'd probably want to go at least two weeks with eating about 2 pieces of bread a day. Maybe someone here has a better idea but I think it differs... -
Not that I really want to eat at a Fast food place but once in a while I end up in a situation with few choices. Is there a list somewhere that compiles the gluten-free stuff at various chain fast food places?

ARCHIVED Reliable Genetic Testing--Preferably Without Dr. Referral
Fenrir replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah, they did my celiac panel and it worked out good for me. I work for a different lab (we don't do celiac testing), but they are pretty good. Mayo Labs is very good as well. -
ARCHIVED Reliable Genetic Testing--Preferably Without Dr. Referral
Fenrir replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, in that case you are better off saving your money and not doing any testing. Even if you do genetic testing it doesn't mean anything. It's either going to show that you have the gene which doesn't in any way indicate or even hint that you may have celiac or it will come up negative which only means that it is likely that you don't have it but doesn... -
ARCHIVED Help Understanding Blood Results
Fenrir replied to karenlynn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My antibody tests were very weak positive as well but the pathology said my biopsy showed celiac so clearly it took about a minute of looking to tell that. I work in a medical lab and I can tell you that many doctors don't know how to read/use/understand labs that are outside the ones they typically order. Celiac testing isn't a common lab a family practice... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Screen Stool Test
Fenrir replied to Topper's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The stool test would only be useful if the gold standard tests support it which is to say it means nothing on it's own. In order to properly diagnose celiac you need a celiac blood panel that includes Endomysial antibodies IgA Tissue transglutaminase, IgG Tissue transglutaminase, IgA Deamidated gliadin IgA Deamidated gliadin IgG Serum IgA quantitation If... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Screen Stool Test
Fenrir replied to Topper's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah, you should be seen by a GI specialist. Stool tests are not going diagnose Celiac. -
ARCHIVED Reliable Genetic Testing--Preferably Without Dr. Referral
Fenrir replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Here is a suggesting for you: healthcheckusa.com It is run by a Lab company called Labcorp. In many states you can simply buy the celiac antibody panel on blood over the internet, without a Drs. order and go to one of their draw stations closest to you . Here is the panel on their website: Open Original Shared Link It's about $180 , so I'm... -

Yeah, the kids being positive really doesn't mean much, the could have gotten it from either parent. -
ARCHIVED 2 Year Old, No Visible Intestinal Damage, Waiting On Pathology

Mine looked fine during the scoping as well but positive under biopsy. My GI said that most celiac don't have visible damage. -
ARCHIVED Please Help
Fenrir replied to c.haines1178's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I know how you feel. I had most of the same symptoms you have now and I suffered with it for months. I also was pretty sure I had ceiliac but held out another 2 months on gluten to get an official diagnosis. So, I know it is difficult but I think it was worth it just to know for sure. Each person has to make that decision themselves. The good thing is... -
ARCHIVED Positive Ttg And Ema, Yeast Rash....if Not Celiac Then...?
Fenrir replied to Michelle1's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think my Celiac was activated by having my gallbladder taken out or maybe the Celiac killed off the gallbladder. Either way, I think the two are connected. As far as yeast infections cause a false positve tTG goes; no it would not. The celiac antibody tests detect antibodies specificaly made when your intestines are being damaged by a celiac autoimmune... -
ARCHIVED Possible Celiac?
Fenrir replied to Fenrir's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for all of the suggestions. At first it seemed like it was going to be very hard to find things I can eat but now I have tons of things I can make myself. It is a good thing that I learned to cook for my wife 7 years ago when we got married because I think I will have to cook a lot more now than I did before. I'm also looking at this as being a... -
ARCHIVED Diagnosis Confusion
Fenrir replied to KayM's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It is a tough situation. Having an official diagnosis can be helpful if you need medical treatment of some sort later on that may be related to it because of how insurance works. At the same time, no mentally healthy person wants to make themselves sick. It might be best to just act like you have celiac and so long as you are symptom free on a gluten... -
ARCHIVED Possible Celiac?
Fenrir replied to Fenrir's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Still figuring food out but I have found corn tortillas to be a be a pretty good replacement for bread in most cases. Ham and cheese rollups, PB&J rollups, pizza, tacos....ect. I'm also a big fan of wild rice and brown rice so I make brown rice, mix in some beans, some ham or chicken, corn and some Mrs. Dash Chipotle Southwest seasoning and it... -
ARCHIVED To Endoscopy Or Not To Endoscopy?
Fenrir replied to 0range's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you have not had one, I'd consider it. If you want answers, you need to look under every rock. I had 2 EGDs, a colonoscopy, MRI, CT, Ultrasound, and tons of blood tests before I was DX'd. -
ARCHIVED Waiting On Daughters Biopsy Results, And Have A Question.
Fenrir replied to mom2J's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Sure, for monitoring if in fact she has Celiac (pretty likely) it would definitely be good. However, I just meant for purpose of diagnosis they are not necessary if the tTG is positive. -
ARCHIVED Waiting On Daughters Biopsy Results, And Have A Question.
Fenrir replied to mom2J's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Typically if they do a tTG IgA and it is positive they're going to do the biopsy no matter what the other labs say so it seems OK, IMO, to not do more testing. The mere presence of Celiac antibodies is enough to warrant a biopsy.
