  1. This was my second opinion, with a much better GI than I had before who just looked around and gave me erroneous DXs. The biopsy showed villious atrophy, the blood tests (apparently) show nothing. Not sure why I need a second third opinon. So far, everything he's said and done has been dead on.
  2. Cycle: It was a fluke. I have a hiatal hernia and just switched GIs in January after I found out my previous GI diagnosed me with Barretts on sight only, no biopsy. I had been researching wheat and it's relationship with thyroid problems (which run in the family) and stumbled on some things that related celiac to gastroparesis, which my new GI also diagnosed...
  3. My GI diagnosed me with celiac after my EGD the beginning of April, which showed "mild celiac" in a biopsy. (Yes, I know you either have it or you don't, but those are the words they used when they told me - I'm assuming that means "mild damage"). Blood work just came back today as normal. This is what they told me when I called: IGG: 3 (she said...
  4. I had the same thing happen. "Oh, there's PLENTY of gluten-free food out there now, you won't have any trouble!" Yeah, sure, thanks. I'm only at about 6 weeks gluten-free, and I can say those types of comments have stopped. Some people ask me how I'm doing, my MIL asked me if it was hard (I told her yes). I especially like the people who say "You...
  5. I like to buy bunches of beets with the leaves still attached, as that can give me at least two sides (the greens and then the beets themselves). I like to saute some garlic and/or onion in a pan with olive oil, then tear the leaves onto the pan. They will wilt down quite a bit, stir them up with the oil and garlic. You can do this with any greens, really...
  6. I *love* Amazon's Subscribe & Save program, and they have such a big selection of gluten-free stuff! Coffee is also much more reasonable through them.
  7. I went in for a routine endoscopy the beginning of April, I've had a hiatal hernia for 20+ years. I asked my doc to do a celiac test to rule it out. I also have gastroparesis (delayed stomach emptying) and that is one of the symptoms of celiac. I figured we would be able to rule it out as a problem Wrong-o, the test came back positive for celiac. ...
  8. I've always leaned toward C and this thread is very helpful. In January, I was diagnosed with gastroparesis, which is delayed stomach emptying. I read up on the dietary changes for that and they recommended more liquid food supplements. So, I bought a protein shake mix. Used it for three weeks in January. I thought it would be nice to add some protein...
  9. The grocery store I frequent the most puts the gluten-free section RIGHT NEXT TO THEIR BAKERY!!!! My dear friend made the gluten-free bread from "5-Minutes a Day for Healthy Bread" book, and it was very good!
  10. Cordyceps. It is traditional Chinese medicine and I was skeptical when someone suggested it to me, but boy was I wrong. It does take a couple weeks to kick in. I have been so fatigued and feeling like I was dragging around a boulder since I had really bad bronchitis last December. I've been taking Cordyceps for 3 weeks and the change is impressive.
  11. Oh, interesting about the Chiro/naturopath. Yes, I went to my MD/PA's office. Again, very frustrated...not just because of the celiac stuff, either. Awesome, no Lupus! I should have done my homework better and not trusted a schooled professional to be able to do their job. Ahem.
  12. I'm laughing right now at your question "Did you go to an MD?" I'm laughing in a good way!!! The person I saw was a PA and, yes, I don't think she knew much about celiac. I'm so frustrated with my PCP right now and am really thinking of switching (for many reasons). The bloods tests she sent me for cost me nearly $600 and I don't think they told me a...
  13. I had an EGD the beginning of April (my third) to check out my existing hiatal hernia and test me for Barrett's. I basically talked the GI doc into doing a biopsy for celiac to, basically, rule it out. Ha. The test came back positive for "mild celiac," their words. SO, I went to my primary doc and chatted and requested bloodwork. I got the results...
  14. There were free samples of seasonings from Virtuous Living at our last Gluten Free group. I haven't tried them yet but I'm looking forward to it. They are certified: Open Original Shared Link
  15. And 3 days on one meal plan is enough before *immediately* switching to another? They barely had time to get the food out of their system!
  16. Haddock with balsamic-roasted bell peppers.
  17. This is a great thread. I 2nd the vote on hardboiled eggs. I have one sitting at my desk all day unrefridgerated with no problem. Cheese is also a good option. I need to look up making my own protein bars.
  18. Awesome! I'll let you know what. Thanks!
  19. I'm feeling adventerous and would like to make these mojito cupcakes this weekend: Open Original Shared Link (second recipe on page) It calls for a flour mix described in the article plus adding xanthan gum. If I substitute Pamela's Artisan flour instead, what are my chances? Do I still need to ad xanthan gum? Am I being too adventerous?? ...
  20. Oh, good suggestion! I went directly to my pharmacist to ask about my meds, not my doctor. I always get better info directly from the people who deal with the meds and manufacturers.
  21. I'm curious if people more often say: "I have Celiac and..." "I can't eat wheat and..." "I can't eat gluten and..." Do you go into a detailed explaination about the disease? The severity? Do you just start out asking if they have a gluten-free menu? One of my problems, and I do recognize this as something I will need to address, is I'm not...
  22. As a Celiac newbie, I was hoping some of you veterans could give me an idea of what you say when you go out to eat? How much detail do you go into? When do you decide to just have water? What are some buzzwords the waiter or manager says that give you warm and fuzzy feelings or just the opposite? Thanks so much! Jody
  23. Based on her initial reaction and comments, I don't think you overreacted at all. I think she did and maybe she was embarassed and changed her menu to compensate?
  24. I have the bloodwork form and she also is requesting a food allergy panel. I got the impression she didn't think the bloodwork was necessary if I got diagnosed by biopsy. I'm feeling very unsure and a bit confused right now. I really dislike trying to navigate through modern medicine.... What if the bloodwork doesn't match the biopsy results? (See...
  25. I love this thread, I hope it keeps going... I am getting the same comments as you. I was only diagnosed a week and a half ago (by biopsy, no bloodwork done yet) and everyone I've told has given me some form of "Oh, that'll be EASY! There is so much in the grocery store that is labeled "Gluten Free" now!" Which, ok, that may be true...but....EASY?...
