  1. Sounds yummy! Thanks for the tip! Have you tried anything else from the WF Gluten-free BakeHouse? I like the corn bread -- tastes completely "normal" to me and it has allowed me to return to my "salad and a piece of bread" lunch routine. I didn't care for the pecan pie -- the crust was fine, but the filling was just not to my liking, and I am a big...
  2. Bumble Bars are also good -- the package says gluten and dairy-free and I just read the ingredients and didn't see any soy -- just nuts, seeds, and brown rice syrup to hold it together.
  3. I know when I first posted it, it did not say that. You're right -- it doesn't make sense that way. Somehow between the time I posted and it got pinned, it mutated! In fact, I had trouble coming up with a "description," and ended up with something dumb like "response from Clinique about makeup" And now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure that when...
  4. Hi, I posted today the response I got from a Clinique rep about the gluten content of their makeup. Most of the products I use are gluten-free and I was happy and was sharing the list in case others could be helped. When I came back to the board later, the topic description of my post had been changed to "Most contain wheat." I definitely did not...
  5. I got that same email at first too, but when I replied with the list of things I use, they told me which ones have gluten in less than a day's time. And most didn't. Do you have another reason to think that most of their products contain wheat?
  6. Because I had my best week yet while I was on vacation, even though I thought the risk for CC would be high, I have started taking a careful look at all my cosmetics. I didn't wear any makeup while on vacation, so that was a reasonable place to start. Most of my stuff is Clinique, and they are sort of annoying...they won't give a safe/not-safe list...
  7. I'll bite. My GI says that even if I had celiac, there is no medical reason for me to go gluten-free. Since all my problems are digestive, she says I can just take Immodium every day for the rest of my life. I still don't know for sure if I have a problem with gluten, because my blood results were mixed and my doc just called it negative and told me...
  8. When I first went gluten-free, I was feeling munchy all the time, but that was because I was just cutting out gluten foods and hadn't figured out what to replace them with. A big part of fighting the munchies for me is getting enough protein. That said, I do have those days when I'm just insatiable...usually around that time of the month, and in that...
  9. Ha! I polished off a box last night -- who could stretch a box into 9 servings? I think it may have lasted in the house for four days, and that was exercising extreme self-control! All day I've been trying to decide whether to stop at the store for more! I don't know about maple...As I was trying to analyze my obsession, I thought there was a dash of...
  10. Oops, sorry...Yes, LauraJ is right -- Annie's is the boxed mac & cheese, whereas Amy is the lovely lady who makes frozen items. Can't blame this one on brain fog -- just general ditziness! I have tried Amy's rice crust pizza, but found it to be pretty mediocre. Only something I'd get if I wanted to join in for a pizza night and not feel left out...
  11. I never eat in fast food restaurants, but I like quick and easy for my work lunches. When I'm strapped for time and even making a salad sounds too hard, I really like Thai Kitchen instant meals. I think of it as ramen for the gluten-intolerant. They use rice noodles, and you can get soups or things like pad thai. Do read the labels, though, because they...
  12. I'm thinking of it more for the little girls, too. I agree that teaming up with a gluten-free cookie maker would be the way to go -- might even be mutually beneficial if Kinnikinnick or whoever got to put "Crafted by Kinikinnick's Gluten-Free Bakery" or something like that, so that they would get their name out, too. It might be even better, though, if...
  13. I know the diet can feel limiting at first, but you have lots of choices for complex carbohydrates. The best choices are foods that are naturally gluten-free: rice, beans, potatoes, buckwheat, sweet potatoes or winter squash, corn, peas, lentils, cream of rice cereal... Then there are the gluten-free versions of breads and pastas and cereals. The breads...
  14. It is so funny that you would post this today. Just yesterday, I had an "oh, girl scout cookies" realization of something I would miss. Since going gluten-free a month ago, I have realized that I don't have to give up anything...to the point that I'm currently indulging myself a little more than before! But occasionally I'll think of something irreplaceable...
  15. Wow, I wonder if this thread is just evidence that alot of people struggle with eating problems or if the incidence is higher among celiacs, for one reason or another. Thank you all for sharing your stories. Here's mine... I started restricting food when I was 12-13, and graduated to starving myself by the end of high school, with bouts of purging when...
  16. I used to love oatmeal, but gave it up when I went gluten-free. It just wasn't worth the risk, especially initially. Now, I'm feeling so great (and so bad when I screw up), that I'm not willing to experiment. Possibly related, I have since realized that I used to always go running to the bathroom midway through a dish of oatmeal. I always thought it was...
  17. I'm with elonwy on this one and I'll try a slightly different way of explaining it. She is admitting to being a person who enjoys being against all kinds of things. She's intolerant of lots of behaviors that she classifies as rudeness. She embraces her intolerances and wants more. So, when she hears that some people also have gluten or lactose intolerance...
  18. Ha! Tastes truly are personal, I guess. I've never been a picky eater either, so I was surprised to react so strongly. I tried a few bites, thinking I just needed to get used to them, but no. They smell like Cinnamon Toast Crunch, though. Here I was wondering how these poor people were going to stay in business, but I guess I shouldn't worry!
  19. So I just bought some Nu-World Foods Amaranth Cereal Snaps (cinnamon flavor). They are quite possibly the worst cereal I have ever tasted. They taste like dry, chalky dirt. This is my first true gluten-free flop. They are inedible. So, to put a positive spin on this post, what's your favorite gluten-free cereal? I have tried and liked EnviroKidz Gorilla...
  20. I know how you feel -- I'm sorry you didn't find your answer. In response to Carriefaith -- my test results show two tTg levels. One for IgA and one for IgG. They are both the same at <3. My tests came back negative also (except the AGA IgG, which was high and the EMA, which was not done), but all my tummy problems went away immediately when I...
  21. You're all right. If my good health continues, I will have no problem skipping gluten in my everyday life. I guess the reason I would love to have proof is for all those times someone really wants me to have some of the pie they baked, or the pasta dish they made. Without a mediacally proven reason, I feel a little like a brat saying "I can't eat that...
  22. Well, I have my blood work back, and it looks like I don't have it. Since getting blood taken, I have stopped eating gluten, just to see if it would help, because I was desperate with painful gas and frequent D. All of my gastro symptoms immediately went away. So, how is it possible that I don't have a gluten problem? What am I missing? I feel so down...
  23. If it makes you feel any better, I'm right here waiting with you. I had more blood taken on Friday, after getting a high AGA result. I still don't think that they are running all the tests people on here ask for, but I'm hoping it'll be enough. I started gluten-free on Saturday and immediately got relief from all my GI symptoms. I really hope I've found...
  24. Well, up until this woman, I was really liking Kaiser -- two Ob-Gyn's and a GP have been great. One of the Ob-Gyn's actually told me that to get over an infection, I should spend time each day visualizing the virus leaving my body. I thought that was great that a mainstream doc would think that way. My GP gave me a dx of celiac from the one blood test...
  25. Thanks for the quick response, Rachel! Yes, my doctor is scary. She also told me that she had just given a talk on celiac, which is even scarier. Her lack of malabsorption theory is based on the fact that my routine bloodwork all looks good -- she says that if I had malabsorption, I would have really low cholesterol. I have healthy (non-high) cholesterol...
