  1. My daughter also developed problems with these foods. But I wonder at times if it might not be because each of these foods blocks the absorption of certain vitamins and minerals which just compounds the malabsorption problems associated with Celiac's. Dairy blocks the absorption of iron, soy blocks calcium, magnesium, copper, iron and especially zinc -...
  2. There is always a chance that it might not be Celiac's, but the thing is, out of all the disorders it could then be....Celiac's would be the one to hope for as it at least offers you some control and normalcy in life. There are no meds to deal with, no constant measuring of levels and medical scans.....the diet can be overwhelming at first, but it IS totally...
  3. Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Techniques. or visit www.naet.com. There is a videoclip that a local news crew did a report on. It is weird, weird, weird. But for some, it does seem to help with food allergies. I have been surprised by it to say the least.
  4. Thanks Rachel. I appreciate the time you took to post the info for me. I think that at times it gets a bit overwhelming dealing with the various food issues and the fact that we have what appears to be autoimmune disorders, food allergies AND intolerances going on all at the same time. I've been pretty much "on my own" in dealing with this and at times...
  5. That would make perfect sense. I do think that we "caught" this thing pretty early (no thanks to our pedis or GI) and I've also wondered if perhaps my daughter was really spared a lot of the damage that other people accumulate by not knowing about glutens and ingesting them for decades before being diagnosed. So far, I haven't seen any studies done on that...
  6. Thanks for your prompt reply! I guess I am a bit confused on her symptoms because when I read posts here, most everyone seems to have a very distinct and immediate reaction to a gluten exposure. I understand that Celiac's presents differently in everyone, so it makes it a bit tough to compare one case to another. As for NAET....I can't blame you...
  7. My daughter is doing NAET right now for her food allergies and it really does seem to be helping. However, it is not really supposed to help with Celiac's Disease, only allergies. Did your son have any heavy metal testing done while on NAET? My dd did and came back with tests that were high in lead, aluminum, mercury and a few other heavy metals. ...
  8. Okay, this may sound a bit strange but I really need some opinions from some diagnosed celiacs. I hope that I can post this so it makes sense. Before the age of one, my dd was diagnosed with failure to thrive. The pedi(s) ran all sorts of tests and eventually referred us to a pediatric GI doc when dd was around 15 months. By that time, I had consulted...
  9. With 3-5 dirty nappies aday, I would think that there is either an exposure being missed, or perhaps an allergy not yet diagnosed. What type of "milk" is your child on? Some rice milks do contain small amounts of gluten in them. I know that my daughter reacted to the Rice Dreams brand of rice milk as they use barley enzymes in its processing. She was...

What have you tried for getting rid of the intestinal candida? I know there is Nystatin and a host of other drugs but I have found that supplements such as Candex are one of the best products in killing off candida. Probiotics also are helpful (but seem to take longer). And the only other thing is diet. No refined sugars and fermented foods. Also...
  11. There are actually a lot of different choices for pancake dairy replacement. Earth Balance makes a dairy-free spread which tastes much like butter. Also, coconut oil works to cook up most anything without tasting of coconuts. The house will smell of coconut, but the food tastes as it should (plus, coconut oil does not change into a saturated fat...
  12. Those are all excellent ideas. I found it also helps to keep certain cupboards or sections in the freezer for gluten-free items ONLY. I set that up at my mom's house and she has done much better at feeding dd safe foods. I also bag and freeze treats I make at home and add them to both my mom's and mil's freezers so that they always have something in a...
  13. It's always best to call the manufacturer first. Supplements are not regulated by the FDA and so ingredients (and what those ingredients are made from) can vary from batch to batch, factory to factory. It's frustrating having to call each time you buy a new batch, but sometimes is necessary unless they'll guarantee you it is gluten-free ALL of the time...
  14. In my dd's case, we discovered that soy AND dairy were also antagonists. From what I have read, it is fairly common for celiacs to have problems with both. Soy will actually inhibit the uptake of vitamins and minerals while dairy can block the uptake of iron. Not real great when there's already a malabsorbtion issue going on. It also can take many...

Thanks to all of you for your thoughts and sympathy. You guys almost made me cry!! It's nice to know that there are so many caring individuals out there. Losing my 60 year-old Dad to cancer was definitely not easy (nor do I foresee it getting any easier during the holidays). But some of the things we were able to experience were absolutely priceless...

    ARCHIVED Homeopathic Doctors

Well, it's helpful to know that the actual allergies can be cleared. We have seen as much with the egg in basically one appointment. Unfortunately, with dd, we don't know if she has an allergy, intolerance or if it's Celiac's. Guess that's the down-side to not having a biopsy done. But in any case, I'm not really very interested in going back to glutens...

    ARCHIVED Homeopathic Doctors

We are trying an alternative therapy called NAET. It's a mix of homeopathy, kinesiology and acupressure/acupuncture to deal with food intolerances/allergies. We have only been to 4 appointments so far and the egg allergy is gone. I really am not holding out much hope on really "curing" celiac's (if that is what my dd really has), but supposedly, this is...

Thanks for the support. Most think I am nuts to not want a biopsy-proven diagnosis. To me, it's more about being practical and making the best of what has been given to us. It wasn't exactly "convenient" for my husband, daughter or I to deal with the symptoms associated with celiac's. I could tell that my daughter was in pain, losing weight and I knew...

ARCHIVED Not Happy With My Gi!

I have heard a few other doctors commenting on how the diet was "so hard". When I spoke to an acupressurist in regards to my daughter and she told me she was 99% sure my daughter had celiac's or a gluten intolerance, I found myself repeating that same phrase. She told me, it's not necessarily that difficult, just much healthier as it is whole-food based...

I think I would search for a new doctor is someone said that to me. First off, you wouldn't be in that doc's office if things were "fine". I'm sure that by this point you've tried all sorts of meds and are still having problems and so once again, the indication is that you are NOT fine. Perhaps this doctor could use a new dictionary for Christmas. ...

ARCHIVED Not Happy With My Gi!

Believe me, I KNOW how lucky we are and yet I still am angered by how my daughter's case was handled by her pediatrician (as I imagine you are). I firmly believe that we would still be testing and running around in circles if this had been left up to the pedi and gastroenterologist. All of their advice was completely WRONG and my husband spied a note the...

ARCHIVED Not Happy With My Gi!

LOL!! Simple, direct and to the point. You have just described my feelings to a tee. My daughter has a gluten intolerance (I strongly believe it is Celiac's Disease) and after dealing with total ineptitude from a series of docs and tests that went nowhere, I gave up and put my daughter on a gluten-free diet. She is now thriving and doing quite well...

    ARCHIVED Homeopathic Doctors

I am currently taking my dd to a homeopath to deal with food allergies and possible Celiac's. She is not receiving any kind of "white" pill, just the NAET therapy (acupressure/homeopathy/kinesiology). It seems to be helping with her allergies and my daughter can now have egg (which before would give her instant diarrhea). Never heard of the white pill...
