  1. Are you strictly gluten-free yet? Some of the foods you've mentioned can easily contain gluten, or can be contaminated with gluten. Even if the steak had nothing intentionally put on it, there may have been some contamination on the grill. Even regular soy sauce contains gluten. Also, some of what you describe sounds to me like you may have low stomach acid...
  2. The antibodies associated with Celiac can continue to be produced for awhile after a glutening. The damage would logically also continue during that time. Since antibodies are typically produced for up to about two weeks or so after gluten exposure, it might take that long for all symptoms and damage to subside. We're all different however, so the length...
  3. OK, but that in itself suggests the article isn't so easy to shoot down. I mean, it only took a search or two for me to find the article. What hypothesis? Looks like a lot of hard science to me. Plenty of actual tests, making actual measurements. The fish oil companies/advocates make claims, but I haven't seen the caliber of scientific analysis in support...
  4. Try avoiding all nightshades, and see how you feel. Whether the pains resolve or not, you'll know if you can continue to eat nightshades. IMHO, magnesium is one of the best things you can take for muscle/nerve/joint pain. Many of those with Celiac are magnesium deficient too. In fact, estimates are that about 80% of the population has a magnesium deficiency...
  5. If you're in a real hurry, one fast, high-protein meal is pea soup. Just empty a bag of frozen peas into a bowl, and rinse with hot tap water to quickly thaw them out. Then put them into your blender, add enough water to cover, and blend until smooth. Add your favorite seasonings, and heat it in the microwave. One pound of peas will yield about 3 cups of...
  6. I don't know how much truth there is to the theories about the far distant prehistoric past, but nobody really does. That's one reason why it's still called the theory of evolution. But that is another topic, and probably better left out of this thread. However, consider that Plato lived to about 80 years of age, Hippocrates lived to about 83, and Galileo...
  7. I knew you'd bring up the "he's selling something" argument. But what about the studies done by manufacturers of fish oil supplements? You can bet they're biased as well. Anyway, enough of that. It doesn't get us closer to answering the questions. After a bit of searching, I found this: Open Original Shared Link So, as I expected, ALA is still important...
  8. Incidentally, I've had good results using buckwheat flour in place of the sorghum in the recipe I gave in the Uprisings thread. Watch for an update too, coming soon! For a safe buckwheat flour, try the one from Open Original Shared Link. It's the only one I've not reacted to, aside from when I make my own using a coffee grinder. Works for pancakes on its...
  9. I didn't suggest it, only mentioned that some do. I'd have to do some research to form a well-informed opinion. One thing I hadn't thought about until I just read it today, is that fresh fish doesn't smell. Only when it starts turning does it begin to smell. So it makes sense that a fishy tasting capsule might be due to rancidity. That is the assertion of...
  10. It may not be a symptom for everyone, but it was for me. In fact, I'm not aware of ANY symptom which every Celiac will experience. Later on I again started to get thirsty a lot, but it was accompanied by frequent urination. That suggested to me I had an electrolyte imbalance. Sure enough, it resolved once I started taking potassium. Strange how...
  11. Sometimes my Barry Farm order will be delayed when they themselves are waiting for shipments. Otherwise service is usually pretty quick. I find they respond to emails in a timely manner, especially when I reply to the order confirmation email message. BTW, I've made progress with my recipe - getting better browning, and maintaining height when bean flours...
  12. For tomato sauce, I make my own version of a product called Open Original Shared Link. It's basically carrots and beets, and a few other ingredients. The taste is remarkably similar to tomato sauce, and the two veggies combine to form a very red sauce. In place of potatoes, I find taro root to work very nicely. It is white, and can be prepared in any way...

    ARCHIVED Corn :(

I've been able to determine that GMO corn bothers me, but organic, non-GMO corn doesn't (or at least not enough to present severe problems from ordinary portions). But from what I can tell, most corn is GMO. The companies involved (such as Monsanto), and the FDA knew the stuff caused hightened allergic reactions, but of course, that didn't stop them ...
  14. Seriously? Generally speaking, foods which are prepackaged tend to offer less nutritional value. Calories alone aren't going to satisfy your body's requirements. You'll still be hungry and malnourished if your diet has too high a portion of empty calories. One easy way to quickly prepare some veggies is with a blender. Frozen green peas can be blended...
  15. After some research, I found that the best digestive enzymes to get are the kind derived from microbes. They can apparently withstand the acidity of the stomach, so they can still function when they get into the intestines. Also, many formulas lack a number of enzyme types, so the more complete the formula is, the more likely it should be to have the ones...
  16. Hold on everybody...LOL I guess I should have clearly stated why I think the article has value. I certainly don't think lectins are all evil. And while I did notice the link to a company selling supplements, that really doesn't detract from what I see as important. What I found enlightening was the in-depth explanation of how lectins interact with the...
  17. Hi everyone. I ran into an article about lectins, and learned some things I'd never read anything about before. If you think lectins don't concern you, think again! IMO, this article is a must read. A real eye-opener, even for someone who isn't gluten intolerant. Open Original Shared Link
  18. I use organic flax oil. Completely vegetarian, no fishy taste, no mercury worries, etc. I generally use it as part of the oil when I make mayonnaise and other things which are prepared, refrigerated, and eaten cold. This also makes it easier to reduce the omega-6s while boosting the omega-3s. Simply taking a supplement doesn't do that. Last I checked, flax...
  19. Ah, thanks. I guess that explains why the author, Jeffrey Smith, didn't state it the same way in a recent interview I heard. I'll have to listen to it again to be reminded of exactly what he did say though.
  20. I can relate to several of the symptoms you've mentioned. Kinda scary. I got what I refer to as nearly miraculous results once I started taking a few supplements. I started with a sublingual methylcobalamin (active form of vitamin B12) tablet. It gradually helped with a number of things, but I just felt there had to be other missing pieces to the puzzle...
  21. I'm with you on the idea that those of us whom are trustworthy should have such a privilege. But if I were to guess, I'd say the board software doesn't have that capability.
  22. Yes, any amount of gluten is a risk, so you do need to be 100% gluten-free, no exceptions. I've read that about 30% of those with Celiac are asymptomatic. That is, they don't notice any symptoms from ingesting gluten. However, the damage is still being done. If your intestines haven't been heavily damaged yet, be very thankful. Not everyone finds out gluten...
  23. If you are eating dairy, try avoiding that for awhile, and see what happens. Recently I've found that a digestive enzyme supplement helps reduce bloating. Omega-3s and antioxidants may help too.
  24. Many good points in this thread. And yes, GMO is far different from hybridization. The BT and roundup-ready crops are downright frightening to say the least. A several-fold increase in allergic response to some GMO crops, such as soy and corn, is just for starters. Apparently, bacteria in our guts can assimilate the modified gene, and continue producing...
  25. Seems you're already getting plenty of protein and fiber from legumes. Meat has no fiber, so I think you're doing fine there. Besides, beans are great when you're on a budget, as they are generally much cheaper than meats. If you grind up legumes (especially lentils), they can make a great burger. However, I don't see that working on a grill. They do work...
