ARCHIVED Mind And Body Connection - Any Suggestions?
jlr posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was diagnosed with Celiac disease 5 years ago and I have been on a gluten free diet ever since. It took some time but the diet has significantly improved my health. I suffered from celiac symptoms - diareaha, malabsorption, anxiety and depression - for 15 years before I was diagnosed. During those years, I developed a phobia and anticipatory anxiety... -
ARCHIVED Hormel Natural Choice Deli Meats
jlr replied to txplowgirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have eaten all of the Hormel Naturals and have never had a problem - I think you might be on to something with the delayed reaction. I know I find that having to figure out what bothered me each time I feel "glutened" can be very frustrating and often makes me go back and investigate what I had the day before. Good Luck and feel better! Janet -
ARCHIVED What Easy To Digest Foods Should My Wife Eat?
jlr replied to Rudi's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am sorry to hear of your wife's GI distress. When I was first diagnosed, I lived on grilled chicken, rice, baked potatos, canned peaches, applesauce and water. To help soothe my stomach, I also drink a cup of peppermint tea after each meal. This has helped significantly with the cramps and bloating. Good Luck. Janet -
ARCHIVED Worsening Symptoms Since gluten-free
jlr replied to shevyo's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have found one Peppermint Oil pill (Pepogest) and then a cup of Peppermint Tea with each meal - it really soothes the stomach! Good Luck! -
Hi all, I was diagnosed about 5 years ago and as all of us do, I am diligent about being gluten free. Since I spent most of my undiagnosed life living with stomach upset, I developed the obsession of analyyzing the causes to hopefully find relief. So now I find myself frustrated when I experience stomach upset - is it stress related, bad food, stomach...

ARCHIVED Chex Cereals - Anyone Having Problems With The Flavored Ones
jlr posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi all, I love that Chex has come out with gluten free cereals - so far the rice and corn have been great. I also tried the cinnamon and choc/vanilla flavors - I can't say that I got "glutened" but I didn't feel good after eating them - anyone else have that reaction? Thanks, Janet -
ARCHIVED Nature Made Cranberry Pills
jlr posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have been purchasing Nature Made supplements for years, since they have always clearly labeled "Gluten Free". I noticed today however, the Maltodextrin is listed in the Other Ingredients section??? Can they label it Gluten Free if it contains this ingredient? Thanks, Janet -

I am so glad that I happened on to this thread - I have been gluten free for 2 years now but I still have bouts of D - I never made the connection that the damaged villi would have problems tolerating other items. I thought if the villi were healed I would back to normal (whatever normal is?). Is lactose the next thing on the elimination diet for me...

You are probably right - I guess I was thinking that since soy and wheat are on the must be listed list - they should temper the 100% with this note.

Hi all, I contacted Ruby Tuesday's about their Turkey Burgers - their website and menu say they are 100% meat...no they are not. Here is their reply: Dear Janet, Thank you for your interest in our turkey burgers at Ruby Tuesday. Our burgers do contain a seasoning blend, which includes wheat and soybeans, so they are not 100% turkey. I hope...

ARCHIVED Emotional Impact Of celiac disease
jlr replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I completely agree with all of you - over the years I have battled with bouts of depression and anxiety too. I definitely see the connection now - physically and emotionally this is tough to deal with on a day to day basis. I try my best to count my blessings - I have many - and I try to stay active knowing that with each day that I am eating gluten free... -
I had checked my vitamins before but I will check again or maybe just start over with new ones (like my subject line says) I have to say this board has been a very positive thing as I muddle through trying to figure this all out! Thanks again for being such a supportive group! Janet
