ARCHIVED Once You Know What Food Problems You Have...
covsooze replied to FaithInScienceToo's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Great idea! I'm going to bed now as I'm rather tired (it's evening in the UK) so will chip in tomorrow. But just wanted to ask you Gina, when did you add in digestive enzymes? After you had worked out all your food issues or before then? Just wondering as I've tried them before and they've made my stomach feel worse. -
ARCHIVED Is It Possible To Drink Too Much Water?
covsooze posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I always knew I drank lots of water, as I'm always thirsty. But yesterday I thought I'd buy bottled spring water as part of my effort to detox. So know I know how much I drink. In the past 24 hours, I've drunk 6 litres of water!!!! I haven't drunk anything else, and it is the time of the month (which makes me thirsty) and I had bacon for brekkie (which... -
ARCHIVED Keeping Bread Fresh
covsooze replied to TinkerbellSwt's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
This is one that I'd like an answer to as my bread is lovely for about half an hour after it's made and then it seems to turn into cardboard lol I'm fast coming to the conclusion that slicing and freezing as soon as it's cooled down is the only answer. Don't know what it'll be like once it's defrosted though. -
ARCHIVED Question For Those Of You With Excessive Hunger As A Symptom
covsooze replied to e&j0304's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That's brilliant news Shannon Has it made a difference to her energy levels? Thanks for your post Kendra. My DS has always had fairly loose stools. They are often fairly light in clour and very very smelly (which I think has contributed to him being too scared to poo in the toilet/ potty - he still has to have a nappy for poos). the other thing that... -
I've been wondering if the calcium tablets I take every day (which are prescribed by my GP) could be causing problems? I try to have tea as little as possible - like chocolate, one cup is never enough! I think it's the tannin in tea that bothers me, as well as the caffeine, as I still get symptoms with caffeine free tea. Citrus is bad news for me....

Kate- you're intolerant to various foods; is GERD your reaction to any of them? Do you avoid any foods because of your GERD? I'm thinking I might have to. Does the way you cook certain foods make any difference?

ARCHIVED I'm Sure I Glutened Myself This Weekend
covsooze replied to mythreesuns's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That's the way I knew my underactive thyroid was here to stay - the wrist pain. Toni, I hope you manage to get to the bottom of this. (((hugs))) -
The first couple of months of being gluten-free, my GERD was much improved, but revently it's got really bed again, to the point that anything I eat makes it worse. I guess my esophegus must have got damaged and needs time to mend. What I'm wondering is, is this a result of being glutened (I was a few weeks ago) or is it from the usual recognised triggers...

ARCHIVED Question For Those Of You With Excessive Hunger As A Symptom
covsooze replied to e&j0304's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yes, if I'm glutened I do get very very very hungry! I hadn't actually thought about it until I saw your thread title, but it is definitely a sign to me that I've been glutened. I did used to get very hungry before going gluten-free. That's improved a bit but I think there's a way to go yet. Other symptoms on glutening - v urgent bms bordering on the big... -
don't want to spoil your fun, but last time I had some Cadbury's Dairy Milk, I noticed that it said it may contain traces of wheat. It's made me wary of eating Cadbury's again. Anyways, black pudding contains far more iron, so we should be eating loads of that...I did when I was pregnant as I got really anemic, but can't stomach the idea of it now

ARCHIVED Enterolab Testing On Toddler?
covsooze replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
does anyone know if enterolab will suplly test kits to the UK? I'm keen to get my DS tested, but don't want to have to do the blood test. -
ARCHIVED Abdominal Pain
covsooze replied to bklynceliac's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi there. It does sound like gas to me. When you say food choices don't seem to make any difference, have you actually tried cutting out any foods for more than a few days? I know that if I have beans or lentils I get painful wind and also if I have dairy. If there's a few things contributing to the gas, it will be difficult for you to see an obvious connection... -
ARCHIVED Could Pregnancy Have "triggered" Celiac?
covsooze replied to maddycat's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
gfp, I like your analogy for how celiac disease is triggered. I think I've had symptoms most of my life, but I had a difficult labour with DS and it's since then that my symptoms have multiplied. I breast fed DS until he was 18 months, when he weaned himself. He didn't have gluten until after 6 months (can't remember exactly when - I wasn't diagnosed at the... -
ARCHIVED Recovery In Older Celiac Patients
covsooze replied to Helena's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My parents have a friend who was diagnosed in his 70s and he's seen great improvements -
Thanks for all the great ideas I've tried having meat with my brekkie the past couple of mornings and that's really helped. I really can't stand eggs, so unfortunately omelettes etc are out. Got to check out that book that Carol suggested - doing detective work in stages sounds good to me! I think part of the trick with this is getting organised, so there...

I've been gluten-free and (mostly) df for 7 months but my stomach is still really bad. I want to simpilfy my diet in an attempt to a) give my stomach a rest and work out other intolerances. I wonder eg if I've got a problem with soy as there's so much of it in gluten-free stuff. I'm thinking of limiting food to: meat and fish (unprocessed), veggies, fruit...

Autumn, I expect most of us can say 'been there, done that, got the t-shirt.' I reckon I've been glutened about 3 times since going gluten-free, and they've all been silly mistakes. Just concentrate on feeling better

ARCHIVED Help! Where Do I Begin Figuring Out Other Intolerances?
covsooze replied to I'dratherbecycling's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi there. I reckon it's probably too early for you to begin to worry that you might have other intolerances. Even if you weren't still being glutened, you will probably still be feeling the effects of eating gluten for years - it does take quite a while to heal. Others might have a different view, but I'd say concentrate on getting the gluten out of your... -
I have a low neutrophil count which is something to do with white blood cells. The haematologist has run loads of tests on me over a long period and concluded its 'normal' for me and must be related to the coeliac. She said the important thing is that it reacts correctly eg when I was admitted to the ED last year it was v high and when i was pregnant it was...

can low hemoglobin be caused by low B12? -
ARCHIVED Glucose Fructose Syrup
covsooze posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My coeliac UK book says glucose syrup is OK, but what about glucose fructose syrup? I've noticed that on a few products, it says from wheat or from maize after it. Just wondering if it's from wheat does it contain gluten? -
ARCHIVED Still Aneamic
covsooze posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've been on iron for a year now, and have been gluten-free for 6 months. My heamaglobin did get back up to about 12 but is back down to 10. My iron stores are fine so the dr is checking serum iron/ trans ferrin (whatever they are!). My B12 is 370 and the GP said that's normal. I couldn't find the thread here which talks about the new recommended B12 level... -
ARCHIVED Pins And Needles
covsooze replied to covsooze's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
the odd thing is though, I've been gluten-free for 6 months and never had this before I am v tired though (cos of the thyroid problem) so maybe its that -
ARCHIVED Pins And Needles
covsooze posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have noticed over the past few days that I am starting to have pins and needles more often. It's not really bad in intensity but I have now got it in various places in my body - hands, arms, legs and I just noticed tingling in my face. I'm wondering what could be the cause. I'm seeing my GP on Wednesday to get meds for hypothyroid. I'm also being treated... -
I was hypothyroid after having DS and it corrected itself, but the problem has reared its ugly head again, so I guess the GP will be putting me back on thyroxine when I go to see him on Wednesday. How long does it take to feel more energetic again once having started thyroxine? It was the increasing fatigue that alerted me to go and have bloods done. Has...
