  1. two figs a day works for me Sharon fruit (also called persimmons) are in season at the mo and they are very high in fibre and delicious too. The added bonus is that they don't seem to irritate my stomach like lots of other fruit does.
  2. Thanks Jen! I think I will 'go simple' and if you've got any further info that would be great. My bit of good news is that I had a call from the GI's secretary yesterday to say they've got me a cancellation slot for my gastroscopy - I'm having it at 1.30pm today So I can go gluten-free this evening
  3. I've had positive blood tests and am waiting for the biopsy before going gluten-free. However, I suspect I've got problems with other foods. How do I know if they are intolerances or just because my stomach/guts are damaged by celiac disease? I think I've got problems with at least dairy and rice. when my GI symptoms are at their worse, there are many...
  4. is there a good book that does gluten-free recipes for bread making machines?
  5. Hi Caeli I've had positive blood results and am waiting for the biopsy before going gluten-free. Just wanted to say though that what you said strikes a real chord with me - the whole being a hypochondriac bit and having depression and anxiety. here's to a healthy furture for us
  6. It was having gastritis symptoms that landed me in hospital and led to the dr ordering an endoscopy (which I'm waiting for) and blood tests, which were positive for celiac disease. I've had acid trouble in the past, but the problems last year were the worse and caused by some pain meds. I wonder if it was the gastritis that triggered the flare up of celiac...
  7. So what do you do about communion now Annette? I've been wondering about what I'll do when I go gluten-free. Susie
  8. One thing I've been wondering, with the gluten-free lists, are the ingredients that we need to watch out for in shampoos etc on the lists? where do we find that sort of info?
  9. Wow, this is really enlightening! Had to look up 'mono' being from the UK...we call it glandular fever and I thought: wow! I've always thought I've not been 100% since having glandular fever at college. My sister who's also got celiac disease had glandular fever as well. My GI symptoms started at around the time I started using the Pill (but I also had...
  10. Thanks very much for those links - I've done some very interesting reading as a result, and now realise that celiac disease may well account for things like my increased back pain. Can't wait till I can start the gluten-free diet!
  11. I've seen various references to the 200+ symptoms of celiac disease, but lists I've seen have been considerably shorter than that and tend to concentrate on the GI symptoms. Where can I find the most comprehensive list?
  12. Very interesting, thanks Lauren! There was a TV programme here in the UK a few months ago which investigated the link between what children eat and their general well being and behaviour, as school meals in particular are a hot issue in the UK at the moment. it was very interesting - a nutritionist radically overhauled the diets of teens who had been...
  13. Looking forward to reading it Lauren! Pop in and see me for an English gluten-free tea if you ever make it over here
  14. is casein the same as lactose? How do you get tested for casein intolerance? I suspect I may have problems with dairy and am wondering, should I wait until I've been gluten-free for a while or cut it out now? Would cutting it out now affect my biopsy results in any way? Thanks!
  15. I've seen lots of people mention aches and pains as symptoms of their celiac disease. I've recently had positive blood tests and am waiting for the biopsy before going gluten-free. One of my increasingly bad symptoms is joint and muscle pain generally. But I've also got a disc problem, which I got from an injury many uears ago, but which has flared up in...
  16. I have always slept lightly waking up once a night, but this year, my sleep has become worse and worse. this coincides with my other symptoms increasing and I've just had positive blood results for celiac disease. I'm looking forward to after the biopsy, so I can go gluten-free - really hoping to have the sleep transformation that so many others here are...
  17. I get a v itchy scalp. having just had my positive blood results back, I'm wondering if it's because of celiac disease. Does anyone know of any gluten-free shmpoo/ conditioners available in the UK - preferably not too expensive!!
  18. That's what I thought. I've got to wait to go gluten-free until I have the biopsy - I don't have a date yet, but it should be Jan/ Feb time, so maybe we can all go gluten-free after that I think the dr would be willing to test him yearly, as he's testing DS yearly for the egg allergy anyway. I'm really looking forward to going gluten-free. I'm thinking...
  19. Thanks for yuor replies I've just got copies of my test results from my dr. i don't know if the labs routinely test for all of the 5 'panel' items here in the UK as they do in the US, because they've only tested 3, as far as I can tell - IgA and TTG are positive. IgG is within normal range. The lab is saying the results 'support the dx of celiac disease...
  20. Hi! I'm new here and need some reassurance! I have a sister with confirmed celiac disease. I've had stomach and other health probs for years now. I had the blood test for celiac disease some years ago and it was negative (I appreciate that there are loads of false negatives). However, following a hospital admission this summer, I had a whole series of...
