ARCHIVED Anyone Else Rice Intolerant?
covsooze replied to covsooze's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Ursula - I know it's probably small comfort to you, but thanks ever so much for sharing so much info in your posts about what you've ben through - it's so helpful What I'm interested in knowing is, how did you work out what you can and can't eat? Were you on the gluten-free diet very long before trying to figure out your other intolerances? I've only... -
I'm pretty sure I'm rice intolerant as my stomach feels really sore after eating rice. For those of you who suffer from this, have you had to cut out rice cakes, rice flour and other things made with rice? I want to try testing via elimination, so I guess that means excluding all sources of rice, right?
-
I'm pretty sure I'm intolerant to rice, but nearly all my gluten-free recipes have some rice flour in. I'm new to all this gluten-free baking, so was wondering can I just substitute any gluten-free flour for rice flour, or will that change the finished product? I'm particularly keen to find a non-rice way of making bread. Thanks! Susie

ARCHIVED Heard From York About My Tests
covsooze replied to covsooze's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I read today in 'Cross-grain' the magazine of Coeliac UK, that having celiac disease doesn't often lead to other food intolerances. Hmm. I thought lots of people here have other food intolerances, so what's that about? Is there research which links leaky gut, celiac disease and food intolerances? -
I'm convinced too...we went out for a meal at the weekend and I was glutened, even though there was no 'deliberate' gluten in any of the food I think the one thing I need to do is buy a couple of new pans, coz ours are very scratched and old (allbeit that we wash them in the dishwasher, so they probably get a lot cleaner than if I did them by hand )
-
I'm sure you're right Lynne, in fact that's what the physio said too. But I also think that the celiac disease has aggravated things as well. it's interesting that when my other joint pains flare up, my back pains do too. I'm not expecting miracles from going gluten-free in terms of my back, but I am interested to see whether it does effect it.

ARCHIVED Heard From York About My Tests
covsooze replied to covsooze's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Jen - are you still excluding the foods the tests showed up? I won't be surprised if there's lots of foods I've got a problem with - it's because I suspect so many that I thought I'd do the test rather than starting with an elimination diet. However, although I do react to lots of foods, I'm rarely really really sick, so on that score, I think it would be... -
Thank you! Do i need a separate colander and grater given that they go in the dishwasher which cleans really well? What about cutlery? Is it just wooden stuff and pans that I need to be concerned about? I'm OK with separate spreads etc, but am not clear as to what cookery equipment and utensils are a problem to share. Thanks for your help - this isn't the...

I had a phone message from york to say that the lab quality control had rejected by blood sample so they need to take a new one! I phoned to see why, just in case it was something to do with how the sample had been taken. they said no, it was because my blood had over reacted. I asked what that meant and basically, my blood had reactions to so many foods...

OK, so I've been gluten-free for a month now and have been very strict. I've got myself a new toaster for home and work and new breadboard and wooden spoon. But I think I'm probably not being as careful as some people here with cleaning, kissing DH after he's eaten (!), haven't bought new pans etc So, how important is it to avoid every tiny miniscule of gluten...

I can't drink caffeine drinks either, as I get heartburn. But, I don't think it's just the caffeine - tannine (sp?) is also a problem. Interestingly, that's in red wine as well as tea, and red wine gives me migraines. I'm obviously sensitive to both caffeine and tannine. I really miss my tea, and drink fruit/ herbal teas instead. But I have to have them really...

One of my favourite cookery books is the Gluten & Dairy Free Cokery Book by Allergy induced Autism which is a UK charity. I bought it because I need a GFDF diet, not because I'm autistic, so I've never researched any link between celiac disease & autism. The AiA website is: www.AutismMedical.com Again, I've not looked through it, but just post the...

This is a question that interests me. I herniated two of my discs when I was 18 in a sports accident. After physio etc, the symptoms lessened and I had little trouble until I was heavily pregnant. again, swimming and physio improved things. then, last year, my back started playing up big time and has been getting progressively worse. Both myself and my physio...

ARCHIVED How Many Family Members With Celiac?
covsooze replied to chrissy's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
me and my sister are DX. Dad has lots of health issues - especially GI - and we're almost there for persuading him to be tested (amazing isn't it how so many of our relatives don't want to be tested?). I'm seeing the peadiatrician with DS on Friday with a view to him being tested. We also suspect my grandmother (dad's mum) may have had it as she had GI symptoms... -
ARCHIVED Predominace Of Families With Celiac?
covsooze replied to Chap's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Don't know about any research, but from experience I think there are definitely families where loads of people have celiac disease. Me and my sister have got it, my dad is going to be tested for it and we think his mum probably had it. Also, a friend of mine's father's family - he hasn't got it, but all his siblings have, as have his dad and grandad. If you... -

ARCHIVED Cant Think Straight, Exhausted, Weak, Tired
covsooze replied to lemonade's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hmm..what I'm feeling like at the moment is withdrawal symptoms again. I think I might have to be completely strict with the dairy. How can I tell if I've got a problem with casein as opposed to 'just' lactose? -
ARCHIVED Canker Soars?
covsooze replied to jessika393's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
yes, I do. I get mouth ulcers and sores on my tongue at the same time. I also get sores on my tonsils at the same time. I think mine might be caused by tomatoes and maybe grapes. The state of the tongue generally is dictated by a poor digestive system. -
ARCHIVED Somebody Whack Me On The Head Please!
covsooze replied to CMCM's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My big vice at the moment (and I've only been gluten-free for 3 weeks) is cakes and bread. gluten-free cakes and bread but nevertheless, too many carbs. Not because I'm worried about getting fat, but because I'm getting into a difficult emotional relationship with them lol It's such hard work trying to figure out what I can and can't eat (I suspect I've... -

ARCHIVED What To Eat To 'fill Up'
covsooze replied to covsooze's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks for all the really helpful responses. I don't need low carbs to lose weight - if anything I need to be gaining weight. But I agree that if I have too many carbs, I just crave more and it really does effect my mood swings. i guess I need to do some work on getting the whole protein balance right. And I can't wait until I get my York test results back... -
I've been gluten-free for a month now and am really concious that I eat lots of bread/cereal/cookies etc - all gluten-free but I'm worried that I might be eating too much of the same stuff and develop other intolerances. the thing is, I'm hungry all the time, so I rely on carbs to fill me up. I'm eating loads of fruit veggies and protein as well, so I don...

ARCHIVED Canker Soars?
covsooze replied to jessika393's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
this is a problem for me too. What is Lysine and where can I get it from? I've got loads of sores in my mouth at the moment so need to get this sorted. Does anyone take any particular vitamin supplements to deal with this? Susie -
ARCHIVED Dairy Intolerance
covsooze replied to CMCM's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've been wondering about this too having just been diagnosed with celiac disease. I've not been tested for dairy intolerance but am pretty sure it is a problem. I've cut out the 'obvious' dairy like cheese, milk, foods with a lot of dairy in. But do I really need to cut out the products that have got just a bit of lactose/ casein in? Thanks Susie
