  1. Thanks for all your helpful info Ursula I will take a look at your salicylate link later. It's not all veggies everywhere that are a problem - they only test a certain number and they are the ones which are most likely to cause probs. Quick question - are sweet potatoes nightshades? they weren't in the test, and I rarely eat them so I'd like to try...
  2. Could it be the acid in your stomach wanting something to attack? I get GERD (the causes I'm sure now being celiac disease and other intolerances) and often if when I get hungry, I get a really sore gnawing pain in my stomach. I'm guessing that as you usually snack well, it won't happen again.
  3. I hadn't really thought about this until reading this thread, but I haven't had any hot flushes since being gluten-free - sometimes my face used to just burn up really bad as if I had a fever. Robbin, do you have any skin condition on you hands? I've had dermatitis on my fingers. It did improve when going gluten-free, although hadn't completely cleared...
  4. Ursula, thanks for the reply. I'm glad you had a good break Yep, pretty sure that's what's been going on for me. Thanks for the tip about Dove - I've just started using some Dove conditioner and find it to be great. An itchy scalp is a problem for me too. I got my York test results back today, and I'm intolerant to so many foods ...
  5. Thanks for all the really helpful replies. As if I needed an excuse to eat more bacon
  6. I bruise very easily and know this is a symptom of celiac disease. Is it something that just gets better with time being gluten-free, or can I take a supplement/ eat more of something that will help correct the vitamin k deficiency? I've never seen K in any multi-vit. Does deficiency in k cause any other probs?
  7. I'm not looking to start another debate about the paleo diet Rather, I'm looking into it as I've got problems with foods from most of the groups that the paleo diet excludes, so it might well be a practical solution for me. I've got a few questions though.. 1 if you are following the diet, to you intend to stay on if forever, or just until you heal...
  8. This is where we are lucky in the Uk - Sainsbury's supermarket do their own dairy free/gluten free 'soya choc.' It's actually very good. I stocked up today Maybe I should start a business mailing it to the US!!

    ARCHIVED Constipation

Another seed to try is linseed - that helps me a bit. You need to drink plenty of water too. Another high fibre fruit is persimmon (sharon fruit), they work really well and taste far superior to figs or prunes IMHO Have you tried making soups? That's a really good and tasty way to have lots of veg. I'm with you on the fish - DH thinks it's funny...
  10. I'm awaiting my York test results, and am just wondering, have those of you who've done IGg testing and eliminated the foods you were positive to found a real difference? My son'd paediatrician, who specialises in allergies and food intolerances, says that he has been unable to find any scientific research that definitely links IGg with food intolerance ...
  11. Going dairy free has helped enormously with my wind (DH used to call it my weapon of mass destruction...you get the picture I hope!)
  12. I'm only in my second month of being gluten-free, but have noticed a significant improvement with the GERD. Strangely, I had no problems at all with it in the first couple of weeks, and then it came back. I think my body was thinking - hooray, no more gluten! and then figured, yeah, but there's still all these other foods to contend with, so now I'm figuring...
  13. ignorant question here Is the soy in soy sauce and soy milk the same thing?
  14. That's what happened with my blood count too. I've not ben v good at taking my iron recently though, as it irritates my stomach so much. I need to go back to the doc to get checked out.
  15. I've bought some different flours - potato, buckwheat (it's not actually wheat at all), maize meal and gram flour. Haven't quite figured what to do with them all yet though! Gram pancakes are OK and I've made some yummy gram/ buckwheat brownies. I need to figure out how to make bread though. I think coconut is probably a problem for me too and maybe soy...
  16. I've always had low blood pressure but go through patches when it seems to be worse and I end up feeling light headed and seeing stars all the time. It seems to be worse when i'm really tired. Am I right in thinking there's a link with celiac disease? Is there a link with anemia? (I am anemic and need my levels rechecking) Today, it snowed (yay!!) so...
  17. Of course you may, seeing as you asked so nicely ! I've only been gluten-free since Jan 11, so I'm fairly new to this. I'm DF as well, as I'm pretty sure I'm dairy intolerant. I can remember as a child feeling sick when drinking milk, and dairy tends to bloat me up and give me evil wind I've stopped eating tomatoes as well, as they make my stomach...
  18. I agree. I had a couple of attempts at the candida diet and they made a bit of difference, but didn't solve anything. At the time, i asked my doctor about it and she said, you only get a candida over growth if your immune system is already compromised by something serious like an autoimmune disorder. And hey, here I am a few years later having been diagnosed...
  19. We've just had our DS screened and our waiting for the blood tests results. He doesn't have any significant symptoms but we wanted him screened as both me and my sister have celiac disease and we suspect our father does too. DS is coming up 3 and he gets loads of viruses too. I can't answer your question, but will post DS's results when we get them as that...
  20. I've been GFDF for 6 weeks. the first 2 of those weeks I actually felt better than I'd done in ages. i then caught a virus which is doing the rounds. Most people have had it and it does go on for a while, but I just can't shake it off. The GP diagnosed conjunctivitis, a chest infection and sinusitis following the initial virus. I had antibiotics, and they...
  21. Thanks Jen! Wow, I'm learning so much reading this board I think I'll research this a bit more when I'm more awake
  22. Kate - Now that you've been gluten-free for a while, have you been able to reintroduce any of the other foods that gave you problems?
  23. I definitely can't have ibuprofen. Ouch!!

    ARCHIVED Mouth Sores

For those of you in the UK with this problem, I've just bought Holland & Barret's own make Aloe Vera toothpaste which is SLS free and made of all natural ingredients. it's obviously too early to know whether it'll work, but it feels so much better to use - I can definitely say that it feels gentler Here's an interesting link about this issue: ...
  25. Does everyone with celiac disease have leaky gut? How can you tell if you've got it?
