  1. Well, I sat down iwth the Brostoff book yesterday evening and decided to go straight to stage 3 of his elimination diet given that I know I'm sensitive to loads of stuff - it's basically a rare/few foods diet. i think I might start a blog here to record my progress, in the hope it might be helpful to someone, given that so many of us have sensitivities other...
  2. Thanks S. I did wonder if that might be the reason. The book if anyone is interested is The Complete Guide to Food Allergy and Intolerance by Jonathan Brostoff and Linda Gamlin. It's v comprehensive and deals also with allergies in general and candida etc.
  3. Umm...I reacted to about 100 of the 113 In fact York phoned me and arranged for me to provide another sample as they couldn't believe i reacted to so many foods. This result is that other sample. the only veggie i didn't react to was mushroom, which isn't a veggie anyway. That's why i'm struggling so much with this whole food intolerance thing. Am posting...
  4. Hey jen! Iw as in college too when i first discovered a swollen gland on my neck and I too thought tumour luckily, a room mate was able to calm me down and explain what it was. turned out I had mono. ever since then, that gland has come up quite regularly when I'm run down, or even for no apparent reason. The heamatologist just said I must have a low grade...
  5. Check out the CUK website for some suggestions: Open Original Shared Link It's not exhaustive, but should start you off. If you are in the Midlands at all, I know a great resteraunt In Birmingham if you come across Waitrose supermarket, they do some amazing gluten-free bread (yes, gluten-free bread that actually tastes really good )
  6. I had my last appointment with my psychiatrist a couple of weeks ago (yay ) and she asked me how I was physically. I'd just been glutened big time (by a so-called gluten-free product) and told her it might have been from just a crumb. I could see from her face for a split second 'is it OCD now?' !!! People are generally incredulous when I tell them about...

    ARCHIVED Hummus?

maybe you have got a problem with one of the other ingredients? I can't eat loads of garlic for example. gfp - when you make your own, I assume you drain the chick peas?
  8. Just eaten some for the first time and it's AMAZING! Main ingredients are yellow peas and chick peas then a whole bunch of spices. I am so happy I reckon I'll have to try making some from scratch some time, as it will be loads cheaper. Anyone got a recipe?
  9. Well done Carrie! Especially good to hear you're feeling loads better too
  10. A few months back, I took the York tests and came back with positive reactions to nearly every food they tested for. I tried giving all the foods up, but it was just never going to work. Could I really be intolerant to that many foods, even temporarily whilst my gut recovers from the coeliac mess? I'm starting to wonder about this again now as last night...

    ARCHIVED Nausea

Yes! Before being diagnosed, I was feeling nauseous so often, without it preventing me eating as you say, that I did a pregnancy test! Definitely a symptom of glutening.
  12. I'm feeling the after effects today of either a glutening or a caseining, so this post won't be long and detailed, but I just wanted to throw something into the pot. I'm reading The China Study by Colin Campbell, who apparently is very big in the field of nutrition. He did a massive study in China of people's eating habits and whetehr there was any link with...
  13. I feel really poorly Sunday afternoon, I had a hypoglycemic attack (I haven't been diagnosed, but I know that's what it was), then all Sunday night I had a headache. I woke up yesterday with a bad stomach, D, brain fog, exhaustion. In the afternoon I felt a bit better. This morning, I woke up really achey, feel exhausted and the brain fog's still there...
  14. Ursula - where did you find out that soy and other foods can cause flattening of the villi? Does the effect look the same as with gluten?
  15. Carla, I think I might look out for that book, cos that's what I am - tired of being tired! <<<yawns>>>!!! Where did you order your hair strand testing from? Was it over the net?
  16. liquorice is also a very good way of relieving constipation.... Stephanie, you sound very similar to me. How text book is your thyroid? My FIL, who's a retired hematologist, told me that low for some people might not be low for others. So you might still be hypothyroid even if your levels are OK, if they are near borderline. Just a thought. My levels...
  17. Thanks everyone. It's true - I had the blood test atfer my sister was diagnosed as I'd had stomach problems for a while. It was negative. I wish I'd known about this board at the time! 5 years later and I retested having become quite ill - the GI said no one could fail to diagnose me from either my bloods or the endo! I think I'll go with enterolab as it...
  18. DS was screened after I got my dx and his blood tests were negative. that was at the beginning of the year when he was coming up to 3. I know there's always an issue of false negatives, but I was wondering - is the chance of a false negative increased when kids are young? If he was tested again now (assuming he does have celiac disease) is it more likely...
  19. Hi Jen Although i haven't posted yet, I have been following the thread and thinking of you. I'm glad you've got a good hematologist. ((hugs)) Susie
  20. Just wanted to thank Carla for this thread. Although I've not contributed the info has been v interesting and, I feel, right on for me. In the past few days, I've had a miraculous change of job (praise God ) and will be practising an area of law which is far less stressful / emotionally demanding than I'm doing at the moment. I'm setting about trying to...
  21. Good old Tone never lies Thanks for your concern, Fiddle-faddle, but DS shows no signs of autism, and big heads do run in both sides of the family. he is eating gluten though, and that I am not so sure about, but that's a whole other post.
  22. I would love to have had a natural birth, but DS's head was far to big However, when I was pregnant my bump was so small that they did a growth scan at 31 weeks to check DS was growing. The scan showed he was very big, with a big head, but they insisted on a natural birth. I went through the whole of labour (induced), screamed and screamed till they gave...
  23. so is there iodine in ordinary salt? How about lo-salt?
  24. In the run up to being diagnosed, I got palpitations more and more. Now that I've been gluten-free for 8 months, I'm getting them a lot less. I am anemic and I think that was part of it, but I also think I got them when I'd had gluten. I think it can also be an allergic reaction. Try not to worry overly about it cos that'll just make you more aware of it...
  25. single molecule water!!! Obviously, that's where I've been going wrong lol Thanks for all your input. I think yesterday was particularly bad for some reason. I've not drunk anywhere near as much today - although I think it's still been a fair amount (I was at work so didn't measure it). I will ask my GP about it though as it has concerned me for a...
