  4. My sons GI advised us to place him on supplements, Vit D, Iron & calcium(he already takes flouride and a mult vit) . Every store I check only has things for ages 18+. Does anyone else give their children these supplements and if so, which brands do you buy? Do they even make them for kids?
  5. [quote Gluten Challange can be very dangerous to a child. (My child ended being hospitalized.) The pediatricians were more comfortable testing for cancer before doing a Celiac panel.
  6. How come there are so many posts?????
  7. I am so glad to hear that progresso rich and hearty clam chowder is gluten-free, it is my husb favorite! I also just found it in walmart for $1.50. That over a dollar savings per can than in my supermarket!
  8. I am also thinking about purchasing the Clan Thompson material and would be interested to hear what everyone here thinks about it.
  9. I am wondering if there are any books on the market that refer to the asymptomatic celiac disease patient? Also, are there any books that are written just for children with celiac disease? I am finding that there are sooooo many books out there, and reading the forum here I am finding out that they are not all good books. I don't want to spend a furtune...

    ARCHIVED Mass Doc

I would also be interested in a Pediactic Dr in Mass. I live in western ma but would be willing to travel to consult with an expert.
  11. I wish I had been home to get the call, but my husband talked the Dr and (god love him) he does not think to ask all the questions I would have wanted to ask. I have left a message for the Dr to call me back so I can get more information. I am not sure if the Dr stated antibodies or the gene were present or both. We both really like this Dr. he is very...
  12. So, If I am understanding correctly, if natural flavorings is listed and the company is on the LIST of companys that don't hide Gluten, then Gluten will clearly be listed on the label? If the company it is not on the LIST then I would need to do more research, such as calling the company to determine if their Natural flavoring contains gluten? it is all...
  13. OK, obviously it is not natural if we need to be concerned about gluten . A "natural flavor" should be ....well.....natural,... right!! I am thinking that in Tomatoe soup for example, natural flavorings would be the flavor of the tomatoes. I am very confused by this. How do we know if natural flavoring has gluten or it doesnt? I am hoping that someone understands...
  14. well the Dr called today and said that my 8 yr old sons blood tests came back postive. He said he has the celiac gene but since he has absolutely no symptoms, he said he does not need to go gluten-free. He suggested taking calcium, vitamen D and iron. My son is healthy, in the 85th percentile height and weight. The Dr said that if his growth should slow,...
  15. I belong to an Episcopal Church and we dip our Communion wafers in the wine vs drinking the wine, so CC would be a real issue. be careful that no one is dipping in the wine at your church (maybe they have a cold and dicide to dip instead of drink)
  16. I want to make nachos surpreme for dinner this saturday night. I usually season ground beef with a packet of Taco seasoning, place over the nachos, top with cheese and melt away!! 17. Thanks everyone, I think I understand the MFS thing a bit better now. And it greatly increases what food is allowable. Thanks.
  18. You can have celiac disease with no symptoms. My husband does. The only way to know is a test. Since you have been eating some gluten items,I am guessing testing should be accurate. I don't know the cost though. At least that way you will know for sure.
  19. I thought you only had to eliminate the nonfood items that contain gluten if you had dermatitis herpetaformis. My husband does not have dermatitis herpetaformis, so are you saying that I need to eliminate the gluten in all the nonfood items for him as well? I thought I had a handle on all this but now I am confused. My husb has no symptoms of GD, only a positve...
  20. I just discovered that Stop & Shop has a good variety of gluten-free items in their health food section.
  21. would you be denied life insurance because of celiac disease?
  22. I agree!!! This is very overwhelming to a newbie. My husb was recently diagnosed and the dr advised going gluten free, but gave no additional info. If it wasnt for this forum, I would be completely in the dark. To be given a life changing diagnosis with no supportive information is scary. Thank god for the internet.
  23. did anyone ever end up participating in this study? How did it go?
  24. Hi, I am new here. My husb was DX 2 weeks ago with Celiac (his mom has it too) and this board has been very valuable in educating me since I do the shopping and cooking in the family. Well, I took my 8 yr old son in for testing tuesday and the Dr called last night and said that his blood test came back "suspicious" and the antibodies were high. He will confir...
