ARCHIVED Ttg at one year....waiting.
Fbmb posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi all! its been a little while since I've been on here because I've been feeling pretty ok. It seemed like around 11 months things started to feel consistently normal for me. I've been grateful. My gastroenterologist had me repeat my ttg in July and then again today. When I was diagnosed it was sky high (>100) and in July it was 4. At the lab 0-... -
I have a weird question and I think I know the answer but I always come here with weird questions. I got my flu shot today, and I got my kids their shots too. Tonight my husband asked me if flu shots are gluten free. I never thought to ask the doctor and I assume that they are, but I didn't research it beforehand so I feel like I should ask. It's 11:15 pm...

ARCHIVED How much gluten is in a communion wafer
Fbmb replied to Deades's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My church uses Rice Chex for communion, which I think is so sweet (and adorable). They do this because they're gluten free. That said, they don't hand them to us. They're in a silver dish and we go up and get our own. They serve donuts and things like that before church so I don't like grabbing out of the dish. Also, I'm a germaphobe. Also, I don't know if... -
Hi everyone! Im almost a year out from my diagnosis. Things seem to be going ok, but I wasn't super symptomatic when I was diagnosed (despite having stage 3b damage), so I don't know if I would feel terrible if I ate gluten. I'm obviously not willing to try it! I'm really diligent. When I was diagnosed I read tons of articles about how scary this...

ARCHIVED This post is all about poop.
Fbmb replied to CaroCaroCaro's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Well, I'm not a poop expert, but I can tell you that I know a lot about it because of this silly condition. I can also tell you that I'm 9 months in and I still have loose stools frequently, usually in the morning. They fluctuate all the time throughout the day. I honestly think my issue is more IBS than my celiac because at diagnosis my TTG was through the... -
ARCHIVED Looking for a GI specialist in Colorado. Help!
Fbmb replied to Fbmb's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've heard of Dr Dunphy, but wasn't sure if she knew much about Celiac. Fort Collins is actually really close to me. About 60 miles away. Maybe I should give her a call? also, are you in Fort Collins? I just ask because we go there a lot and I never know where to eat except at Beau Jo's I might have to bug you for pointers! -
ARCHIVED Looking for a GI specialist in Colorado. Help!
Fbmb posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I live in Wyoming and I'm looking for a new gastro. in Colorado. I'm right on the border so I'm fine commuting. I have a gastro. in Denver but I'm not thrilled with his office and I don't feel like he and I really "get" each other, despite the fact that I think he's a good doctor. I know that not all GI docs know a lot about Celiac so I'm hoping to find someone... -
ARCHIVED Lab work came back
Fbmb posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi all, my TTG/iga came back. It was 4. 0-3 is considered negative and 4-10 is weak positive. In January it was 12 and before my endoscopy in October it was >100. it plummeted those first 2 months but seems to be taking more time to get lower. Should I feel optimistic? I guess 4 seems ok. -
ARCHIVED 9 month follow up labs tomorrow...
Fbmb replied to Fbmb's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That's true. My doctor was telling me back in January that he expected to see a big drop if I'm doing well on the diet, and I was so nervous. But then when it came back at 12 (we got the result together in his office) he was elated. He said, "This is a significant decrease!" So my hope is that it's lower than 12 now. But I was over the moon in January. I... -
ARCHIVED 9 month follow up labs tomorrow...
Fbmb replied to Fbmb's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You're the best I hope the TTG/iga alone is ok. My doctor said it is. I'm trying this new thing where I don't second guess or argue with my doctor. It's tough for a sass like me. -
ARCHIVED Tissue Transglutaminase IgA testing
Fbmb replied to VioletFemme's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It depends on what your TTG was. When I had mine done (it was all I did) it was >100. I asked my doctor if it could be from something else and he said, "with a number like that, not likely." I had an endoscopy a couple months later it and confirmed it. My mom has an AI liver disease and is negative for celiac. I know that people say that some AI... -
ARCHIVED 9 month follow up labs tomorrow...
Fbmb posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi all, Im having my TTG/Iga drawn tomorrow for my 9 month follow up. I had them drawn initially in September and they were >100. I was officially diagnosed with my biopsy on November 8 and stopped eating gluten that day. My GI doctor wanted me to repeat my TTG in January, and it was 12. He wanted it done again 6 months later, which is now. So I'm... -
ARCHIVED Stomach ulcers maybe?
Fbmb replied to WinifriedA's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I know you don't want another endo, but that's going to tell you if you have an ulcer. My mom has to go in for an endo in August because her doctor thinks she has one. And really, it's a relatively quick and easy process and you'd have an answer. You can develop ulcers anytime, and they aren't always going to be because of gluten. I get canker sores (usually... -
ARCHIVED Taking the lactose intolerance seriously

Thanks kareng. I totally agree with you. -
ARCHIVED Taking the lactose intolerance seriously
Fbmb replied to SueMD's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm sorry, but not having enough lactase to break down dairy and taking enzymes to replace them is hardly poisoning yourself. It's not like someone having Celiac and eating gluten. Most people are lactose intolerant and there's nothing wrong with taking digestive enzymes if a person wants to have cheese. I have seen many people on this site suggesting that... -
ARCHIVED Taking the lactose intolerance seriously
Fbmb replied to SueMD's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I realized I have issues with lactose too, but rather than giving up dairy I started taking Lactaid anytime I eat it, and for the most part I have been totally normal. Sometimes if it's a lot of dairy I'll take two of them. -
ARCHIVED Redken All Soft?
Fbmb posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Can you guys tell me if you think any of these ingredients look suspicious? I didn't think so, but wanted to make sure. I know if I call the company they'll just tell me to read the ingredients. This is for Redken All Soft shampoo. ALL INGREDIENTS AQUA/WATER/EAU, SODIUM LAURETH SULFATE, DIMETHICONE, DISODIUM COCOAMPHODIACETATE, GLYCOL DISTEARATE... -
I tested positive in November and immediately had my toddler tested, though he didn't have symptoms (aside from being really little). He has it.
-
And I do get that if you have an "allergy" to dairy or an issue with casein that Lactaid won't work. But if it's lactose then Lactaid seems to really help.

So, just an update on my angry gut. Last week I went to the pharmacy at my aunt's (fellow celiac, or as she calls it "silly-ass sprue) urging. She still takes it 20 years later. I have never thought dairy was my issue because before I was diagnosed I didn't notice that it bothered me, and it's never been consistent. Also, I wasn't having reactions to...

ARCHIVED Reactive hypoglycemia and anxiety in withdrawal
Fbmb replied to Kirsty40's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
What do you mean by reactive hypoglycemia? If you mean low blood sugar, yes. And you may notice that from now on. I never used to have "low" blood sugar (except when I was pregnant sometimes). I went to my mom's in May and I hadn't eaten in like 4.5 hours. I felt ok. But she's T2 diabetic and has a glucometer and I was curious to see how my sugars were (I... -
ARCHIVED Just a TTG?
Fbmb replied to Fbmb's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Oh I don't doubt it. I don't know why else I would have stage 3b damage if I didn't have celiac. Can other things cause villi blunting and hyperplasia? My doctor went to Princeton and got his MD from John's Hopkins, and then completed his residency at Beth Israel of Harvard. He's been a GI in Denver for years and actually diagnosed my aunt in the 90s. When... -
ARCHIVED Just a TTG?
Fbmb replied to Fbmb's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ok, now I'm seeing what you're seeing. They didn't check my IGA alone before I had the TTG. So I don't know what that level was by itself. I assume if you're deficient in IGA that your TTG would be lower, yes? Since it says TTG/IGA I assume it's TTG AND IGA. Right? I'm no genius though. And I certainly don't know anything about science or lab work. I'm just... -
ARCHIVED Just a TTG?
Fbmb replied to Fbmb's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The alogrithm still lists the other tests as part of the total blood workup though, right? Maybe I'm not reading it correctly. Its hard to say if I have symptom improvement because I wasn't very symptomatic before. And I do still have some weird days. -
Hi Everyone, So I've been gluten free for 8 months and was diagnosed back in November. I had my TTG done at my local health fair and had an endoscopy to follow, which showed that I had stage 3b damage. I didn't have many symptoms. My TTG was >100. It was super high. My GI didn't suggest that we do a full celiac panel, and at the time I didn't...
