ARCHIVED Hair Dye Products
DILIROTH replied to Judyin Philly's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Loreal Couleur Experte in France but I know they also have it in the states. Its a kit that has a hair coloring and highlighting all in one. It doesnt list any wheat in the ingredients and I have not had a reaction to it - but I am not certain its 100% safe. I just sent an email to Loreal in Paris to be certain of its contents. If I hear any information... -
London is a fantastic city and its a great vacation spot for Celiacs! I found it refreshing to stop at almost any local grocery and find a selection of gluten-free breads or pastries. Additionally, most of the wait staff were knowledgable about Glutten and I didnt have to explain everything to them - it really makes for a relaxing and stress free vacation...

We have a bio-coop in Toulouse but they also dont sell much in the way of gluten-free. I found our local Vie Claire to carry a bigger selection - they carry just about all the brands available and have a good selection. Although the French idea of customer service is all most non existant I really think many are trying to change it - but it will take...

My daughter loves YOP! I have tried it and did not have any reaction but I just started becoming more sensitive in the last couple of months. I read the ingredients and they dont mention any items that seem alarming except for "coloring" which doesnt give any additional information or its derivatives. I have tried to be extra cautious since coming here...

Earlier this year I sent a letter to AFDIAG and they were not at all helpful. They did not offer any information and only directed me to their website and membership - it really bothered me that they were not interested in assisting a Celiac but I was not sure if it might also have something to do with being a foreigner? The Tourist office in Toulouse...

Elony, I hope you have a wonderful visit to France. The sunflower fields are preparing to bloom in the South so I imagine they will be beautiful around the country side of Paris in July. Also, I hope you have a chance to visit a local market because the produce is better than any in the states! They dont use pesticides and have a lot of local products...

Thanks for all the info about foods in France! I am not sure if I should but after reading the labels it looks like we can eat the packaged chicken and turkey? It usually lists the dextrose and other preservavites as derived from potato . I am really disappointed that I can not find a ham in France that doesnt contain ble and I am leary of the sausauges...

I am sorry that no one has taken an active role in your website. Maybe it will just take more time. It is not as useful for myself b/c I am located in the Toulouse area and seldom venture to Paris, except for the Airport - which can be a Celiac nightmare if you are hungry. Theresa

Sorry, my other post somehow was sent before I was ready? I must have pushed the wrong button. I agree the Schar products are excellent! I have not been impressed with the France-Aglut but the Vali-form brand is not too bad, but I still prefer Schar. There is also a corn pasta I sometimes buy at my local biologic that is very good but I cant remember...

I definitely recommend the brand Schar and I do NOT recommend anything that is "France Aglut" The Schar bread and pastas are especially good as well as the Grisini (breadsticks).

ARCHIVED Cooking With Gluten For Others
DILIROTH replied to Kaycee's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Cathy, I would definately give up soup making with Gluten ingredients, consider the artificial sweetners in the sodas but if hes good to you - keep the husband. There could always be a chance that the Barley ended up in your system through cross contamination. I am the only Celiac in my home and I refuse to cook anything that is not gluten-free... -
I also had an extremely heavy flow and very painful periods from the onset! Everyone thought I was faking it or just had a low pain threshold. It wasnt until at 19 I was rushed to the hospital with a cyst on my ovaries that was bleeding that they discovered I had severe endometriosis. I tried all the medications and treatements but none of them worked...

ARCHIVED Restaurants To Eat In While In London/paris/edinburgh
DILIROTH replied to CalicoSue's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I am glad to hear of all the successful travel stories! I love visiting London beacuase its easy to find good meals and stay healthy while vacationing! I would not advice eating the fries at McDonalds in France. I have seen some come out of a dedicated fryer BUT they always mix them with their potatoes that are covered in some kind of coating? I am... -
Bonjour, I moved to Southern France from the States last year. The transition can be extremely difficult, especially for a newly diagnosed celiac - the local fresh bakeries on every corner dont make it any easier. Eating out in France can be difficult and risky but it can be done. I have found the local thai restaurants to be some of the best. ...

Although I have not been to China, I have found it fairly easy to bring manufactured wrapped and sealed food products into foreign countries throughout Europe and also Russia. But do not bring any animal products, such as canned meats. Additionally, some countries have problems with egg products. I wish you the best of luck on your adoption journey...

ARCHIVED Calling All Londoners
DILIROTH replied to floridanative's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
My family and I are taking a trip to London at the end of April and also staying in Kensington. I have heard that the restaurants in central London are accomadating for Celiacs and there are some with gluten-free options. After living in France for the past six months I am looking forward to going to a restaurant where the hostess will better understand... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free In-flight Meals?
DILIROTH replied to erin24's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I usually fly British Air/AA, Delta/Air France and Continental transatlantic flights. For some reason, they need at least two week notice for gluten-free meals? I arrange gluten-free meals prior to the flight and usually get one but I cant always guarantee it will be gluten-free, so of course I bring a goodie bag of treats with me. In my opionion, of... -
My French is still not very good but I have these phrases memorized - “Je suis allergique à gluten” -- “I am allergic to gluten” “Je ne peux pas manger de blé” -- “I cannot eat wheat” In the biological stores you will find a section that will be “sans gluten” (without gluten) and many of them contain a variety of choices for bread, even some ...

Paris in the Springtime will be fantastic! I find it very difficult to eat out in France but not impossible. Breakfasts are challenging because the typical French breakfast revolves around pastry. Although it is more expensive, its much easier to eat breakfast at your hotel if it has a large restaurant, or have a stock of fresh fruits (the local...

Donna, Some of the gluten-free items that you can find in most bio shops around here are: Open Original Shared Link and www.valpiform.com They also carry a few other brands. I have tried many products from both of these vendors and they are actually very good. I also have packages sent over of some of my favorite gluten-free items that I can not...

Donna, We live in the suburbs of Toulouse in Colomiers. If your daughter goes to a French public school she will not be able to eat the meals served at school. Although, they are fabulous lunches - they are truly french meals and definately not Gluten Free! Unfortunately, the schools also do not allow children to bring their own meals so they...

Hello, I have recently moved to S. France from the States. You can find Gluten free products at most Biological stores in your villa or a larger villa nearby. Some Biological Patisseries (mainly in larger cities) also have fresh breads. But there is an abundance of fresh fruits, vegetables and meats at the markets. Eating out is an obstacle but there...
