ARCHIVED How Do You Handle A Bad Restaurant Experience?
jaimek replied to hapi2bgf's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I am so sorry to hear that you got so sick. Did you specify to the manager that the chicken and veggies had to be prepared in a cleaned pot/pan? I hand the waiter/waitress a gluten free restaurant card which states the food allergies, but then I also hand write on there that everything must be made in a thoroughly cleaned pot/pan/grill. That nothing can... -
If anyone is in the Philadelphia area, Channel 6 Action News will be doing a whole story on Ed Snider (owner of the Philadelphia Flyers) tonight. They say it is about a mysterious disease that millions of people have and don't know it. I know Ed Snider has Celiac (since he is a board member of one of the local foundations). So, if anyone lives in this...

I don't think it is. I was using that before and I think that is one of the lotions that caused my eye to crust up. I would call but if I remember correctly, Cetaphil face lotion is NOT gluten-free.

ARCHIVED Best Gf Pasta?
jaimek replied to dmchr4's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I like Knotta Pasta. I find it in my regular Giant supermarket. Tastes just like regular wheat pasta. I think I actually like it better! -
Does anyone know if Grenadine is gluten-free?

ARCHIVED Whole Foods
jaimek replied to jaimek's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So, I went to the Whole Foods (I live in the Philadelphia area) and bought blueberry muffins and Corn bread. I have to admit that the muffins were the best muffins I have ever tasted (including regular and gluten-free)!!! They were amazing. Granted, they are VERY expensive so I will only buy them for special occassions but they are well worth it. They... -
I know EXACTLY what you are talking about! I get the same thing. It happened to me for a while and I couldn't figure out what it was. Then I realized that my shampoo had wheat in it and it was getting in my eyes. It also happens when I use face cream or eye makeup that is not gluten free. It doesn't happen when I accidentally ingest gluten but just with...

ARCHIVED Exact Anti - Nauseant Med?
jaimek replied to lynseealler's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Skippy pb with no problem. I have called the manufacturer and it is gluten-free. Must have been something else! -
Just wanted to let everyone know that I contacted my local Whole Foods market yesterday, and they informed me that the gluten-free bakery is up and running. I am going to go check it out this weekend. They have breads, pies, cookies, cakes, brownies, pizza crusts,etc.......... I am SO excited. The woman said that a lot of the products will not be out...

For those of you who live in the Pennsylvania area, I have a place where you can order great gluten-free products. It is called The Grainless Baker and they are located in Scranton, PA but will ship to all of PA. I highly recommend their cookies and thin Italian pizza crusts. My fiance (non celiac) could not believe that the cookies were gluten free. ...

I called the 7-11 Corporate Headquarters to find out if the hot drinks that come from a machine are gluten free (Hot Chocolate, Cappuccino, etc.). They just called me back and stated that none of those products contain any gluten and all of them are gluten free. So, enjoy the hot chocolate!

ARCHIVED Teflon Pots And Pans...
jaimek replied to Sharon C.'s topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I know the pan that I used was not chipped, but I don't think it was one of the high quality pans. I bought a whole new set of Teflon, high quality pots and pans, but I do not have any gluten in my house. I don't need scientific evidence to tell me Teflon retains gluten. I got violently ill the one time and that was enough for me. Funny cause I had used... -
ARCHIVED My Attempts To Make Bread :)
jaimek replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I was just introduced to a bakery in Scranton, PA called "The Grainless Bakery." Supposedly their bread is wonderful so I figured I would order some from them. It is being delivered on Wednesday so I will let you guys know. I had previously given up on gluten-free bread since all of the ones I have tried have weighted 20 lbs and don't taste good at all... -
I definitely realized a difference in my choice of food. I used to hate beans of any kind and now I like them. I used to love tuna fish but lately it has been tasting extra fishy so I haven't really been eating it. I also never liked squash, asparagus or sweet potatoes but now I like all of them. So strange!

ARCHIVED Teflon Pots And Pans...
jaimek replied to Sharon C.'s topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
You should definitely replace your teflon pans. I was staying at my parents house one weekend over the summer and I happened to make eggs in a teflon pan. Little did I know that my brother had made french toast in the same pan the previous weekend. He cleaned it but it apparently didn't matter because I was bedridden for the rest of the night. It was... -
Sorry, guess I looked over that part of your post.

Did you try calling them? I would ask about their burgers or nachos. Those options would probably be your best bet. I am sure if you calling during their off hours that someone will be able to help you. Good luck! Let us know if you find anything out

I figured I would post here since you were discussing the pill. I have tried to trace back my side effects to a point where my Celiac was triggered and they all lead back to the time when I started taking my BC pill. Do any of you think that the BC pill can be a trigger for Celiac? Just curious as to what other people think.

ARCHIVED Do I Really Have Cd?
jaimek replied to Karina's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was also trying to figure out what caused my Celiac to come on out of the blue and I traced it back to the birth control pill. I never had any of the symptoms in college but after I graduated I went on the pill. From that point on it was all down hill and now, 4 years later, I have full blown celiac disease. I too have Osteopenia and am only 27 years... -
Hello Everyone. I just got back yesterday from a magnificient trip to Mexico. I was so worried about going away since this was my first vacation since being diagnosed in February. I stayed at the Ieberostar Paraiso Lindo in Riviera Maya, Mexico and I couldn't have asked for a better trip! When I checked in I asked for the woman who I had been emailing...

I was living with my fiance when I was diagnosed 7 months ago and ever since that day we have eliminated practically anything that is not gluten-free from our kitchen. He eats gluten-free with me whenever we are at home but if we go out to eat then he will eat whatever he wants. I don't mind when he eats regular food that I can't have when we are out. ...

ARCHIVED Dramamine
jaimek replied to jaimek's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks Richard. I just got off the phone with Pfizer and they informed me that both the original and the chewable dramamine is gluten free. -
Does anyone know if Dramamine is gluten-free?
-
This might be a bit extreme, but I just gave money towards a walk for HIV and it made me think, "why can't there be a walk for Celiac?" Does anyone know how one would even go about organizing something like this? I think it would be a great way to raise awareness and maybe get some donations for research. Even if there were only a handful of us from different...

ARCHIVED Pizza Sauce
jaimek replied to BamBam's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Trader Joe's has a gluten free pizza sauce that is delicious. It is just called Pizza Sauce and you can find it on their gluten-free pamphlets. You can also always use Ragu as a pizza sauce.
