Just bear in mind that anybody with a couple bucks for the signage can open up a "celiac center".

ARCHIVED Starting To Feel Like I'll Never Get Better..
AndrewNYC replied to SamAlexPesk's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Success on the raw diet could be because you lack digestive enzymes. Also look into other food allergies like these people say. Maybe fructose intolerance. -
ARCHIVED How To Deal With Glutening
AndrewNYC replied to GF avenger's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Eating something that is super easy on your stomach, like an elemental diet formula, could be helpful, rather than eating regular food in the aftermath. -
ARCHIVED Length Of Discomfort After A Glutening
AndrewNYC replied to texas's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Could be fructose malabsorption or some other carbohydrate/sugar malasborption involved. Fructose gave me brain fog well after I thought I was over celiac. Whether or not that is the case, you could try an elemental diet formula (Tolerex, Vivonex, E028, etc) for a brief period to see if that helps your symptoms. -
ARCHIVED Gluten-free And Symtoms Have Gotten Worse.
AndrewNYC replied to sarabmore's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Could be fructose or malabsorption of some other carbohydrate/sugar malabsorption. These can mimic celiac disease and sometimes are side effect of it for awhile after diagnosis, but will eventually go away with proper dietary management, unlike celiac, where you are gluten free for life... -

ARCHIVED Questions About Fructose Malabsorption
AndrewNYC replied to Blondie's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I am fast becoming an authority on this subject. Backstory is that I had continuing minor bowel irritation for four years after going gluten, dairy and soy free. Then I finally had a massive collapse with onset of out of control bowel trouble and celiac-like neuro trouble, unrelated to vitamin deficiency. Refractory sprue was ruled out; villi appeared... -
ARCHIVED We Are Off To The Ped. Gastro. Tomorrow--what Questions?
AndrewNYC replied to mommymatheny's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have not read your story but I will offer this: there are a number of associated and easily treatable conditions with celiac and you need to address these NOW. Many times doctors and even celiac specialists will not address all of these things unless you ask, the idea being "lets see how junior does once gluten is out of his diet for a couple weeks/months... -
I was kidding you. It was my disbelief that any doctor would spend an hour w/ you, me or anybody else. Pancreatic enzyme deficiency in itself can be a side effect of celiac, without any secondary cause for the pancreatic enzyme deficiency. It is pretty easy to treat though; just take pills with each meal. In my experience most doctors won't test...

An hour? Yeah, right! Next.

Consider fructose intolerance. If that is the problem then he would still react to veggies, fruits, and very possibly rice.

ARCHIVED Swollen Tonsils- Related?
AndrewNYC replied to Cath724's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had something like this. Swollen tonsils for about 8 months. ENT doctor could find no cause. Then I saw a recall on a food that I ate often, because it was contaminated with soy that was not on the label. I know I am sensitive to soy generally, but did not know it would present as enlarged tonsils. Sure enough, when I took X out of my diet, the... -
ARCHIVED I Challenge You All
AndrewNYC replied to AndrewNYC's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Fine, I guess almonds don't have any. I'm allergic to nuts though anyway, so... Explain to me about corn. I don't understand how that works. I hear mixed things about it, but I don't seem to react to it. -

ARCHIVED Can Dog Treats Make Me React
AndrewNYC replied to krisb's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I can only eat plain, rice or corn based dog treats. I tend to avoid bacon flavored, ham flavored, etc. I think lots of artificial flavorings contain gluten, and even though they are quite tasty in a dog biscuit, not worth the trouble later on. -

ARCHIVED Elevated Ttg Years After Healing--- Cause?
AndrewNYC posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was diagnosed with TTG level at 22, brain fog, and flat vili. Three years later I was healthy and gluten free. Four years later I have brain fog, villi are healed and well, TTG is at 19, no gluten in diet, but am reacting to other foods like plain rice, chicken. Has anyone experienced anything similar? -
ARCHIVED Inability To Properly Absorb Water?
AndrewNYC replied to Woolygimp's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Try Gatorage G2 or Pedialyte over regular gatorade. -
Something like this could get a plaintiff's attorney really excited. On the other hand, your husband must not have felt so sickly after the endoscopy if he never bothered to check on the results. It only takes a phone call to get them.

ARCHIVED Brain Fog?
AndrewNYC replied to tannilisa's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You can also get brain fog from enzyme deficiency / fat malasorption. Sometimes people experience improvement or complete reversal of brain fog on the gluten free diet, only to relapse (sometimes years later) because they never addressed the enzyme problem. Furthermore, bloodtests should not be the gold standard for whether or not you are producing enough...
