  1. Thanks!! There's a Whole Foods store opening not too far away next week - so I'll be sure to add those to my list to look for!!
  2. Thanks! I've never been a "good" eater....which is why I'm not very healthy, I suppose. I like fruit - I just don't ever think to eat it. I go on and off - where I'll eat things like fruit cups and grapes and plain rice cakes with peanut butter - but then I get sick of it. And I'd rather eat swedish fish, pudding, or fruit snacks! I find that if I don...
  3. Does your daughter Know about your Celiac disease??? Why would she even tempt you with all the food? Maybe you could ask her to bring home some of the things you're able to eat - if she brings anything home at all. They have a gluten-free menu there. It's easier to stay on the diet if you're not tempted by the food in your own home. I can see how...
  4. Hi all. I am having weight issues right now. Grrr! A few months ago I had the nasty flu bug that was going around and I lost about 7 pounds. I was feeling great! 5'9" and 133 lbs! Woo-hoo! I weighed 185 when I gave birth to my daughter 19 months ago. And before I got pregnant I was at 150. Yucky! So, after giving birth, I finally made it down...
  5. I think one of the major signs in children with celiac is malnutrition. They don't gain weight easily and they Look malnourished. My mom tells me that I wouldn't have any energy and she'd just have to hold me all the time. From a picture I have after a bath - I looked like an ethiopian child that you'd see in a National Geographic magazine. I was really...
  6. I agree about not eating out for awhile till you start feeling better. However, when you do finally dare try Mongolian BBQ again - you can put your own sauces on your mix - just find out which ones have gluten and which ones don't. I'm sure a lot of them don't have gluten in it....and even using little or no sauce would be okay (they'd just add lots of...
  7. I haven't seen them yet... but I also haven't been back to the health food store yet. It's such a pain to go to - but a Whole Foods is opening not too far away in a week - so I can't wait to go there! Are those meals in the frozen section? I'll have to remember to look for them. Thanks for the suggestion!
  8. Oh Radman!! I'm sorry to have to break this news to you. I just found out a week or two ago. But, corn pops now have Wheat starch in them. Stupid, I know. I emailed Kellogs and complained - but just for my benefit - not because I think they'll do anything about it. I grew up eating that cereal - and now my choices are limited to Cocoa or Fruity Pebbles...
  9. I'm sorry Robbin....you might not have meant that to be funny - but I laughed so hard when I read your story at Disney World!!! Thank you for sharing - even though I'm sure it wasn't funny at the time. After reading all your public restroom stories - it makes sense why I, to this day, hate using public restrooms...must have been from all my bowel trouble...
  10. Radman, I was so excited to read your first post (and this one). I completely agree with almost everything you've said and felt. (That's probably so because I, too, am in denial of the seriousness.) I get a lot of words of wisdom sent my way because of my relaxed attitude about Celiac at times. My symptoms are not very serious and don't put me down...
  11. Nini- I just had the best dinner, thanks to you! I finally tried your garlic cheese bread with the pizza crusts! Yummy!!! I had white rice tinkyada spaghetti with spag. sauce, the garlic cheese bread, and broccoli! Ohhh...I'm craving the leftovers that I put in the fridge for my hubby!! I can't believe how good the crust turned out. Thank you for posting...
  12. They have a conference in SLC?!?! When?? Do you have a website with GIG's info on it? I used to live in SLC...then moved to St.George, Utah (4 hours south)....now in Vegas (2 hours south of that)....so it's not TOO far for me! I would love to go to some type of convention! Unfortunately I doubt I'd be able to travel far - with a toddler in tow (not sure...
  13. My worst symptom (and sometimes ONLY symptom) would be the gas! It comes usually in the evening/night and ruins any romantic time with my hubby. I think he'd say that was my worst symptom too - I'm never "in the mood" because I'm afraid of the noises my tummy's going to make.
  14. No, I don't believe He minds it at all! I just dont' like being different (if you haven't noticed reading any of my other posts..haha)....so I don't want to bring my own bread and have everyone look at me strangely. I've only been in this ward (our church is divided by area - so there are many wards... if I moved a couple miles away I'd be in a different...
  15. Hmmmm....that's really interesting. Thanks for answering the question. I learned somethin new today! I'm glad to hear that some priests allow it more than others....especially when it's such a big deal. Corinne - I'm sorry to hear you're having troubles with rice and corn too. That stinks! I'm not good right now - I take the regular bread every...
  16. I'm not Catholic - and so I definitely don't understand why it's a big deal for the bread (or whatever it is) to have gluten in it?? How does having gluten make you more worthy? I don't get it! In my church (LDS - or Mormon) we take the Sacrament every sunday - which is water and bread. When I was growing up, my mom would just bring a piece of my rice...
  17. I wish I could help you out! I've had Celiac forever and I've been pregnant once. But I don't get violently ill when I eat gluten. And I never got the queasies when I was pregnant. I would probably wait, if I was you, until you're feeling better (i.e. finding out what's bothering your system - gluten or other allergy) before trying to get pregnant. You...
  18. That's so funny!!! I've not seen flashdance (a little before my movie watching time, I think?)...but I've heard the song...so I was able to put the words to the tune. Hilarious!! Thanks for the laughs!
  19. megsylvan, Thank you for your beautiful post. As I was reading your post, even though this is way off the subject, I kept thinking what a great writer you are! I wish I could put my words down, of how I feel, as well as you just did. Anyway... When I first found this message board - I thought "Hey, I've had Celiac forever, I bet I can be of some...
  20. Thank you so much, Nini for those ideas!!! I just barely got my box from kinnikinnick that I ordered for the first time...and I got the pizza crusts to try. I can't wait to make them tonight for dinner!!! I cannot believe how good their stuff is!! I can't find them in stores yet...so I ordered a bunch of stuff. I've tried the oreos - oh my goodness ...
  21. Okay, after reading all that - I have a couple more questions. (Thanks for the replies, by the way.) How does anyone know for a Fact that celiac is a life-long disease? It doesn't seem to have been around for very long to really know that answer. So, isn't there a chance that it could go away? How is a blood test or biopsy going to be able to tell me...
  22. I loved posting in the "I hate" thread to get everything negative off my chest! Now I will love even more listing all the positive things! -I Love my wonderful hubby and darling daughter, Mallory. -I love the rest of my family and my in-laws (except one of my bro-in-laws...who I just tolerate). -I love my religion! -I love knowing that I can...
  23. I have read so many posts on this website now - I'm starting to feel more informed. However, I have one - possibly convtroversial - question. How can you all tell the difference between being "glutened" and just having a sour stomach and diarrhea? It seems like so many people are questioning what it was they ate, when they were so careful, that caused...
  24. I'm sorry - but I think this is a little silly. Sooner or later we're going to start believing EVERYTHING is bad for us. Then what will we all eat?! Just because one person (or a few) have a reaction to soy doesn't mean it's "poison" to everyone. It just means that you can't tolerate it - just like we can't tolerate gluten. Gluten isn't bad for everyone...
