  1. Anxiety levels and toxic reactions to gluten are extremely linked in some Celiacs. Part of my certainty on this has been looking at my own diminishing anxiety after getting off of gluten, and the extreme physical anxiety I experience as the first reaction to glutening (soaring heart rate and blood pressure, coordination issues, plus scratchy throat etc...
  2. Little note (still following the topic, though absent for several months for being sick ) I have recently been eating a much lower sugar diet. My skin has gotten a lot nicer and my rosacea is chilling out. I'm hoping it lasts.
  3. I just bought these biscotti at Whole Foods here in metro Boston. They tasted interesting but I had a full-blown reaction immediately. Not something usually associated with buying products from the Gluten Free freezer. Good health! Mme PS I don't know if Foods by George has been fingered for cc before. The board won't let me search for the phrase...
  4. Going through the scopes from both ends is no fun. And it doesn't necessarily help. It *is* good to make sure you don't have serious conditions, but, well, you're probably already feeling terrible. Why irritate your system further right now. If you can feel better with diet, then do so first and stabilize. Then, get tested routinely for other things. When...
  5. Indian dal, blanched greens, and rice. Tasty, healthy, and quite variable if you have an indian or pakistani grocery in the area. Gazpacho? Cucumber and yoghurt soup? I also make garlic potato salad with smoked paprika, no oil, and scallions. Oh, and garlic. Penzey's spices help food be more interesting. I am great fan of their spice mixes:Greek...
  6. I am just posting a little tail end here. I think everyone else has said it better. Kudos to acoustic mom for the neurological research link. I've been very interestest in that work. My family seems to be primarily neurologically gluten intolerant. When I get gluten exposure, I get anxiety and coordination problems first. I'm atypical bipolar (runs on mom...
  7. You're quite welcome! I'll be interested to hear about your results, although I'd of course rather that you not have a chance to test it!
  8. Eye Drops: Similisan Dry Eye Relief Open Original Shared Link I get them at Whole Foods. The active ingredients are Mercurius sublimatus 6x, Belladonna 6x, and Euphrasia 6x. Inactive: Borate buffer, sodium nitrate, silver sulphate (preservative), purified water. They're a bit pricey but they are really soothing. As for food triggers, anything...
  9. Thanks for the info! I left a question at the "ask a question" part of their comments page. I absolutely love the ginger almond cookies. And the peanut butter. And it would be nice to have their manufacturing facility be gluten-free.
  10. The short answer is yes. I'm still new to all this, so I can't give you a nuanced answer as to why all the the tests can be wrong. What I do know is that they can give false negatives and do. All of them. There seem to be a lot of people here who had to make the decision at some point, for themselves or their children, to follow their symptoms and family...
  11. Matilda, you're marvelous! I've been glowing about having a "fabulous attitude" and have been severely cheered up by your comment, I'll have you know! I hadn't known about the Enterolab testing until I saw it on this board. I suspect all of my family on both sides is pretty genetically susceptible, but I'd like to put it to the test. How did you...
  12. Good for you for being such a good advocate and diagnostician! I'm sorry you had to be, but you're doing a great job. The saddest thing to me is that even doctors who *want* to think outside the system don't know enough about the revised data on celiac. It was not in their training. My mother went to med school in the 70s. They thought that something...
  13. Keeping your blood sugar stable is a really important way to keep your brain working well. It's like not getting drunk. Hide safe snacks everywhere you can and know your emergency exits (aka what you can always eat safely). I wonder about Pixi's method. If she responds to gluten with constipation, a laxative might be smart, especially if it's not glutened...
  14. I love these mixes and everyone who likes pudding in my household likes them. Dr. Oetker is the Betty Crocker of Germany, but appears in the US market as an organic line.
  15. Have you been following a strictly gluten-free diet? You might be more sensitive now if you're mostly off of gluten but still ingesting some. Also you might be vitamin or mineral deficient. You should definitely work with a doctor and a nutritionist on this. Pain isn't weakness. It's your body saying something is wrong and needs specific attention. Another...
  16. Neat thread and link! Rosie, what cool texture info on flours. I'm at the beginning of my gluten free baking career, though I've done some special diet baking. I was beginning to think about baking combinations and how to mix flours for different purposes. Do you use flax or almond meal? I know that flax can hold moisture, too, and is a great source of...
  17. Yay! Another Liz! And yes, so much in common Also, I must admit, you have one of my favorite quotes. I noticed it when I first came on board and then, after I had my own little revelations about how much better I felt without gluten, I understood it in a new light. Psychiatric misdiagnoses seem to be so common with celiac. The problem is, living beings...
  18. Good moral! It is amazing what babies, and parents, can live through. I'm glad you don't remember it and I can't imagine your family can forget it. And yet, what a miracle. After almost losing you, they got you back with the chance to be healthy. Thanks for telling your story! PS That part about the doctor wanting to do a gluten challenge...
  19. Wow! I’ve been on and offline with the fever but coming to the replies to this thread made me so happy!!! Annette: Thank you for the safe space and also the Dx through diet inspiration and example. The diagnostics are so tricky, especially with all of us so different in our immune systems and the immune system so good at compensating. Although “the bod...
  20. I've had rosacea since my early twenties. Both my parents have it so I was doomed. It definitely flares with diet. We just discovered the gluten link recently, but here are some other things from almost 15 years of trying to control the stuff. 1. Noritate cream works better for me than Metrogel. It's also metronidazole but in a cream base. My skin is too...
  21. Hey Matilda. My GIs are very reasonable people for specialists. And the younger one who is treating me is kind to boot. I'm frustrated that I can't keep on the wheat without getting sick now. This is a new thing for me. I had my symptoms laid bare by a bad norovirus and two other flus this year. As did my father and sister. So we haven't been gluten free...
  22. Felidae, it's soooo true that you have to listen to your body. Healthy body is good. Sick body is bad. The gut knows the difference And having fevers just sucks. I just feel so lucky to have groups like this one to find out more about the realities of the gluten-intolerance spectrum and testing difficulties. Not to mention the support for dealing...
  23. Thank you Ursula! The affirmations really help. The testing IS dangerous. And the cure is (relatively) simple. Yes, my husband believes me, thank goodness. As does my mom, who's a doctor. She's the one who put together the correlations with me. I just can't quite believe I'm at an excellent medical center with the only celiac center in New England...
  24. Exposure to gluten *can* cause spiking fevers and terrible joint pains in some people. Especially if they've had other infections recently or something else to weaken their bodies. It's a symptom of the autoimmune response. The mouth blister is also a typical gluten thing. Definitely try Tylenol and cold cloths to bring down the fevers. Also, oddly, hot...
  25. I'm sick. Really sick. My husband has never seen me with a fever. In 8 years. And I've been running about 102 for 3 days. I usually get a LOWER temperature with illness. What happened? Well, it's a virus. But I've also been trying to get proper testing for celiac. Sooo, over Easter, I stuffed wheat into my body to try and register on the blood tests...
