ARCHIVED How To Be A Gracious Guest And Remain Gluten Free?
CarolAnne replied to hilwacat's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I'd advise talking to the family if at all possible. You'll be absolutely amazed at how aware people in Ireland are of Celiac Disease and staying Gluten-Free. I was there for a week...and everything in the grocery is clearly marked "Celiac Safe" and even the restaurants understood "Celiac Diet" when I was there. We were in Dublin and County Cork. I was... -
ARCHIVED Is A Diagnosis Too Much To Ask For?
CarolAnne replied to ANDOBEAR's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with what everyone else is telling you. DON'T do the surgery until you've tried the gluten-free diet for at least 6 weeks. I'm an overweight Celiac...my weight gain is caused by my disease. My body thinks it's been starved for years...and so stores everything I eat...carbs, fats, even proteins. I've been struggling for years to figure this all... -

ARCHIVED 12 Years! What's The Point Of Diagnosis?
CarolAnne replied to coffee1's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
The only diagnosis I ever got was Wheat Allergies...I just stickwith that. I have never been diagnosed with Celiac...but I am German and Irish descent (sp??) so I figure I definately have the gene...that's good enough for me. By the time I was able to get a decent diagnosis of Wheat Allergies I was covered (nearly 75%) with the rash. I was miserable... -
I've traveled to Ireland & Scotland...and researched another trip to Italy & Greece. It's absolutely amazing how knowledgable they are about Celiac Disease. I found they understood "Celiac Diet" much more than "Gluten-Free". In restaurants I just told them I was on a Celiac Diet and for the most part the waitstaff was just great. You still have...

CarolAnne replied to MELINE's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi...I'm so sorry that you are not feeling well. I know that getting things under control can be really tough...especially when you have so many things to watch for. ARCHIVED Pollo Tropical Chain In Florida
CarolAnne replied to elefky's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I've eaten at Polo Tropical - and I love the food. Just be extra careful of what you order. And watch the servers as they set up your meal. Cross-contamination is a huge issue with them...and if you're sensitive it could be a problem. The servers often use the same tongs for the food as they do the bread...and it's such a habit for them to plop bread...
