ARCHIVED Cleveland Ohio Area Restaurants
BRUMI1968 replied to kb8ogn's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
check out: Open Original Shared Link you can search it. -
Open Original Shared Link I just used this site to find four restaurants in Portland, Oregon, where I'm going next week. Finally, I won't be at the mercy of my gourmet friends who would rather "die" than not eat wheat. (don't tempt me.)

One of multiple reasons not to eat farmed salmon! Thanks for the tip. -
ARCHIVED Uncomfortable (literally) Question
BRUMI1968 replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Use Cottonnelles instead of TP - that will help. Or any kind of flushable 'baby wipe' -
My naturopath is from India, and he suggests taking kelp, and doing this exercise: 1. put your chin to your chest 2. breath in 3. hold breath while moving head to look toward sky 4. exhale breath 5. repeat It's certainly a bit different than what we're used to, but it is claimed to stimulate the thyroid. He told me a coue years ago I was ...

My main symptom was gas and BLOATING before I went WHEAT free two years ago. That really helped. I also went dairy free, so I'm sure that had something to do with it. Three months ago I went gluten free, and intitially got the gassyness and bloating back. it was really frustrating. I eventually cut out all grains and beans...but still a bit bloaty...

ARCHIVED Uncomfortable (literally) Question
BRUMI1968 replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I got the fissures too, from extremely hard stool, when I first went gluten free (was always on the C side of things). Now I find it itches down there when I've got a yeast problem going on; and if I quit all the sugar and fruit, it gets better. Good luck. -
It was for ninety-six foods maybe; it was IgG and IgE, and it was a lab in Seattle, I forget what is' called but can look later for you. I'm off to Vancouver BC for the day, and now that I've researched restaurants, I'm off! Take care.

I don't eat grains at all, or beans, dairy, starchy veggies/fruits. When I quit the grains, I thought I wouldn't be able to get enough fiber, but most days I have been great. I't's been two months now w/o grains. I had an allergy panel run recently as well, and everything came back negative, including wheat and gliadin, which I thought was funny. ...

what about beans? do you alright with them?

I did not have nausea as part of my healing, though I have had what you describe in the past, before going off gluten. The only thing that helped was valium, so I think in my case I was just getting really wound up about the mild nausea, and it would become more severe. I ended up losing a bunch of weight because I never wanted to eat. After a week...

ARCHIVED Candida Overgrowth And Celiac Connection
BRUMI1968 replied to esthesio-vivi's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yeah - I'm going back on body ecology here next week, though I don't see what I could be eating that is yeasting me out. I'm bloated, too, though, so it could be the little buggers. Body Ecology, here I come. Darn! -
ARCHIVED Almost Convinced My Sister
BRUMI1968 replied to Mandy F.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My mom had her mom tested (I guess since she's 80 something, she gets tested for what my mom wants instead of what she wants) and it was inconclusive. I asked her if she would get tested anyhow the next time she's at the doc, and she said it's probably from my dad's side. Come on! I reminded her how miserable her father was digestively speaking when... -
I was on the opposite end of the poop issue - big time C - for most of my life. Now I'm so good. It's great not to fear the bathroom. I would try giving up nightshades/dairy/soy/etc...all the biggies, and see if it gets better. My poop used to be weird and loose and odd and uncomfortable whenever I ate potatoes. My husband finally made the connection...

ARCHIVED What Are You Craving For?
BRUMI1968 replied to Lexis's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Walnut butter. I crave it day and night. I like to get a spoon of it and then a bit of Wax Orchards Strawberry "butter" on top of that (is diabetic friendly, incidentally). It really satiates my sweet tooth and the fat in the almond butter satiates that desire for baked goods. Sounds nutty (pun intended) I know...but it works. I'm the Queen of spoon... -
Thanks. I know I like the smaller ball for some things, like doing squats with the ball up against the wall - this keeps my back safe, which is important to me. I'll try a workout video I have with each ball and see which one seems "right". Thanks for you input. -Sherri p.s. Is that you running? I don't run, and am always impressed by those...

Actually, I hate crosswords. I like hiking, biking, walking, Pilates, tennis, and weight-lifting ... or reading or researching or filmmaking or photography or writing or poetry or taking classes. I'm with you - exercise the body, mind, and the "spirit" (in other words, get some joy in life). Square dancing does look kindof fun, though.

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Cat Food
BRUMI1968 replied to lindalee's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm not sure. I feed by dog grainless food, and he seems to do fine. The best my dog was, though, was when he was getting raw food. His farts stopped stinking, his poop was awesome (to pick up - or just leave there if it was in my yard because it basically turned to white powder and disappeared). It was going along great. He lost weight, his coat was... -
ARCHIVED Hello! New From Wa State
BRUMI1968 replied to NancyKay's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
The guy teaching that class, Tom Malterre, is the nutritionist I saw for my Celiac. My doc wanted to refer me to St. Joseph's, but I didn't get the impression anyone there was a particular expert. Tom is gluten intolerant, though not Celiac, and seems to know what he's talking about. Not only that, he respects ways I've decided to take my diet even though... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Cat Food
BRUMI1968 replied to lindalee's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Really, cats are only meant to digest meat. I always find it kindof ironic that we feed animals so much of what they can't really digest in a healthy way - like cows and corn, like cats and grains ... then again, a lot of humans eat what they weren't possibly meant to digest either (high fructose corn syrup, etc.) A good brand is Innova's EVO brand. ... -
ARCHIVED Candida Overgrowth And Celiac Connection
BRUMI1968 replied to esthesio-vivi's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I am constantly at bedtime wanting to stick my fingers in my ears and wiggle them around. Sometimes my inside ear can get no relief. Arg. But my outside ears don't' itch. Right now my head itches and I think it must be some product I'm using that has gluten or something. It's nuts. -
what a lovely cat!

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Cat Food
BRUMI1968 replied to lindalee's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Cats are carnivores and don't need any grains - grains just flummox their systems. INNOVA brand makes EVO food, which has ZERO grains. That's what I feed my dog. They are a very reputable company. The food is expensive, but you do feed less. In fact, if you overfeed, you'll have troubles with poop issues. But if you follow the instructions and/or... -
ARCHIVED Need A Substitute For Salad Dressing
BRUMI1968 replied to ArtGirl's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
olive oil and balsamic vinegar is good, especially if you add in white beans, artichoke hearts, cilantro, etc. I made my man this concoction last night (I don't eat beans, so I didn't taste it), but included roasted peppers and olives as well.
