  1. Try Kalms, or Valerian (its a herbal rmemedy made from a flower). Also as natural methos, you can try eating turkey, bananas or milk abotu an horu before bed - they all contain an amino acid called tryptophan which acts as a sedative, and is good to give ADHD kids. I find having a banana with some milk is good, as its not too heavy on your stomach before...
  2. WHat are the other types of alternaive therpay apart from acpuncture? I am really interested but ahve a needle phobia. Thanks
  3. Hi. I've heard that coeliacs are more prone to bacterial or fungal infections, and over here coeliacs are supposed to have a pneumonia jab, to reduce the chance of catching it. The way I look at it is this, you're body is so used to attacking itself, that it is slower to respond to actual invading organisms, and is less able to cope with them compared to...
  4. Me and my dad are the coeliacs in our house - there's also my two younger sisters who are veggie and my mum. We all share the microwave, as well as the grill (i always use new foil), but we have separate toasters - me and my dad use one everyone else uses the normal one, and we have our own gluten-free butterdish, as well as preserves and jars - we have gluten...
  5. In the UK here, coeliacs are not allowed to join the armed forces - from what i've heard anyway, mainly because it is too hard to sort out the food for a minority of peopel,a dn the health problems which accompany the disease. I have a similar problem with a work meal I am going to in about 2 weeks - they have organised a meat and a vegetarian option - steak...
  6. [i was also going to say that all of that seemed gluten-free to me - I even eat the crunchie McFlurry's from mc donalds as theyre gluten-free over here. Ribena is definitely gluten-free - I actually called them up about it before just to check as I love the strawberry one and had some this afternoon actually Have fun digging into all that gorge gluten...
  7. Sorry to hear you're having such problems - hope you're feeling better soon. The best natural cure for cystitis is actually cranberry juice (blueberry works too, but not as well). It is unique in that it is able to kill off any flagella (tails) on bacteria such as Echerichia coli, which is the most common casue of cystitis, and therefore they cannot hold...
  8. Go for cool original flavour or just plain dippa doritos chips - they're ok.
  9. I do't know about the US, but Pizza Hut actually do gluten-free pizza here - you just have to take your own pizza base along (which we can get on prescription) and they cook them separately. It's not the same though - I dotn like teh taste of gluten-free pizza bases or gluten-free bread at all, its better as toast. There is a pizzeria - a proper one which...
  10. I have the same problem. Diagnosed and gluten free for nearly three years now, but a few months ago doctor said it was IBS. I accpeted teh diagnosis simply because they wanted to do exploratory surgery, as my gut keeps bleeding when i get D and my gut has never really healed even though I have been gluten-free for quite a while now, and dont slip up very...
  11. Thanks, it's very interesting reading your replies.
  12. Thank you very much for this information - I actually went in and asked if the White chocolate mocha was ok before, after suspecting it had made me ill, and they even showed me the boxes, which were definitely ok. I didnt realsie I was taking a perfectly safe drink and spirnkling harmful vanilla powder over it afterwards . Feel very stupid now... Thanks...
  13. Hi. I was just generally wondering does anyone on here find they get hiccups a lot more than normal people? I've been noticing that I've been getting them a lot, much to the annoyance of my sister. Get them up to twice a day, 4 days a week, and they last for up to 15 minutes a time. Just wonderign if anyone else has experienced this, and if you have, did...
  14. Cinnamon is a very good natural anti-diarrhoeal. You can sprinkle it on drinks, or puddings... just a suggestion anyway, if you're not too keen to stay on pharmaceutical medications. Good luck with sorting it out x
  15. Sorry to hear about that restaurant. Hope you're feeling better now. For stomach problems, inc D, I'd strongly recommend a drug called mebeverine hydrochloride. Alverine citrate is a very similar one, but it is stronger. (Please note these are the chemical names - they may also be known as Colofac, or Spasmonal, among other names). Anyway, they are designed...
  16. It must be - it definitely isn't listed over here, although that does make me very suspicious now... I know the low fat one over here definitely has wheat in, as my mum's eyesight isn't very good and she brought the wrong one home before, and I immediately spotted it. I always have to keep an eye on her lol. I find it so much easier to live with my parents...
  17. Hi. My symptoms sort of came and wentat intervals - and they werent at that point linked to eating gluten, as I was eating gluten allt he time, but only felt ill every so often. the usual D, nausea, throwing up, very bad abdom pain, extreme distension - my stomach could increase from 30 inches to 45 within a day, brain fog, feeling generally lousy, weird...
  18. Me and my dad also got ill after having campbell's cream of tomato soup and also cream of tomato condensed soup. I think that it's actually just that the soup is CC in the factory - its made on the same lines as glutenated soups. there were no gluten ingrdients on the side of ours either, but it was actually me who realised what was causing this problem,...
  19. Most calcium supplements usually also contain vitamin D, so even if the eggshells are ok, you may want to check that you are also recieving enough vitamin D. The reason this is usually included with the calcium, is because it helps your body to absorb it. Am not sure about the eggshells, but I'm sure its worth looking into. Good luck x
  20. Hi. The best site in the UK is Coeliac UK, but it doesnt have a forum like this site unfortunately, but you should join them as they publish a book which contains all the foods which are gluten-free, and this includes quite a lot of the UK supermarkets, and is very helpful: Open Original Shared Link With prescriptions, you will be able to get gluten-free...
  21. Just a quick idea to cheer you both up - try making some gluten-free choc chip cookies together - yummy. That way you'll both have fun making them and you'll both be able to eat them without her getting upset. Good luck with your efforts - try and stay strong for her as she obviously needs you a lot at the moment. x
  22. Hi. Just wanted to say, that whether your disease is under control or not will not have any affect on whether your child inherits it, and I'm afriad I do think the percentage is slightly higher than the doctor stated. Me and my two sisters were all breastfed (i'm the oldest) yet I was the only one who got coeliac disease - I dotn know if either of my sisters...
  23. Hi. I'm 22 and was also diagnosed while I was 19, and at university and found it really hard. If you want any advice, help or just to talk, just email me - katie_orourke_11@hotmail.com Take care and good luck with the diet x
  24. Usually its anything up to 2 weeks to get it totally out of your system. However, please note that as far as I know, ALL cous cous is made from durum wheat and therefore is not gluten-free. If you're unsure about any food in the future, you'd probabbly be best asking on here as some of the long-time members seem to know more than the doctors Hope you're...
  25. Hi. Just to elt you know, that because malabsorption is a big problem for a lot of coeliacs, well until a gluten-free diet anyway, it is highly probable she has both coeliac disease and also zinc deficiency. Different coeliacs are deficient in different vitamins/minerals. For example, my dad is deficient in zinc, B vitamins, and also potassium - for the latter...
