Things have been very stressful at my house the past week - and I have been good! No Cheating - although a bagel would taste good right now - Ha! Ha! I have been tracking my food intake and exercise for over a week and I am having to force myself to eat in order to reach 1500 Kcal. I did not really how much I wasn't eating. I got the thyroid books...

ARCHIVED For Those With Gluten Tolerant & Intolerant Family Members
NSG replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter was diagnosed over 16 years ago and for many years we keep her food seperate and used seperate kitchen items to prepare and cook her food. Then when our son went to college and I started getting sick, the whole house went gluten free. My husband would eat gluten when we went out, but all of the meals at home were gluten-free. Then, our son... -
I have been a migraine suffer for years - mostly hormonal triggers [estrogen], then over the past 3 years, anything and everything would trigger one - environmental, food, hormones, etc. I have what's called Basal Artery Migraines that have triggered TIAs and I have also had one mild stroke because of them. Imatrex is out of the question, and after 1...

Looking into the thyroid avenue - requested several books on the subject - perks of being a librarian - and started keeping a foo journal over the weekend. My weight has been all over the place lately. Lost 4 pounds one day and gain 3 more the next. One thing that I have noticed if that I am actually eating a lot less that 1500 kCal. So I have been making...

NSG replied to Chako's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Bagels!!! I use to crave pretzels, but sunce going gluten-free it just BAGELS! -
At 42 - I am dealing with hot flashes during the day - I have always been hot at night - but never had night sweats. Thought it was hormonal, but I could be wrong... I also avoid soy and can not have HRT - the hormones cause severe migraines. Interesting about the mold thing - we just moved into a new townhouse and our old apartment had a bad mold problem...

Karen - LOL!!! I have a 17 year old that was diagnosed in 1989 with celiac disease - she keeps me on my diet!!! But a support group would be nice. I have only been on a gluten-free diet since early 2005. Still hard not to cheat. I miss bagels... Ken - We live in Phoenixville - so it's a trek to Philly. But, it would be worth the effort for a monthly...

Since my current GP is clueless about Celiac and refuses to believe anything I tell her - I have decided it's time to find one who can help me!!! The GI and Neurologist I have saw were great - but they will not treat the normal everyday stuff or any other conditions related to celiac disease. If anyone knows of a GOOD holistic doctor in the Philadelphia...

Thanks so much for this link! Now I wish I still lived in West Palm... I was on meds for Hypothyroid for 6 months in 1990 and then my GP retired. My next doctor [and every one since then] have insisted on testing for TSH and T4 only and since they were/are normal - no meds! I have only felt really great [and lost weight] for about 5 months in the...

Thanks! I will look into T3. Looking for a GOOD doctor anyway - my current GP still believes that the blood work for celiac disease should remain positive after years on a gluten-free diet. Like she knows what she is talking about!!! I really need this site... getting over the emotional stuff about being overweight is a real challenge. My mother had...

Just found this post - thanks! I have been fighting my weight issues for more years than I want to admit - my early teens and I now have a teenager! My parents went on the natural, whole food when I was in high school and I developed IBS and gained over 40 pounds in 2 years. After I got married, I lose some of it, only to gain it back with my first...

ARCHIVED Cosmetics-shampoos, Etc
NSG replied to Lisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Okay - thanks for all the tips - we will check out Almay, EccoBella, and SmashBox. Where can you find Bare Essentials? I have looked locally and no one carries the brand. Also - what is MAC? I have been using CoverGirl for over 25 years and am a newbie to these other brands. HELP!!! -
ARCHIVED Cosmetics-shampoos, Etc
NSG replied to Lisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It'd only been 3 days - but the improvement in Beth skin and my scalp are 200%. Thanks for letting us know that the stuff we were using was poisoning us! Who would have thought that face wash and shampoo could have had such negative effects. We are still looking for "cool" eye shadow. I will let her know about "SmashBox". THanks again! -
ARCHIVED When Celiac Kids "cheat" On Their Diet
NSG replied to chrissy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We have been dealing with this since Beth started school [11 years] and it has gotten better with time. As a teen, she wants to be like everyone else and "eat normal food" with her friends. Beth also knows what it will do to her in the long run. Her great-aunt died of colon cancer [also had Celiac] and we have had many open discussion about the negative... -
ARCHIVED Cosmetics-shampoos, Etc
NSG replied to Lisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We ended up with Neutrogena products - not very "cool" - but gluten-free. She checked her nail polish and thinks that NYC is okay. We'll see. All the CoverGirl is in the trash! -
ARCHIVED Cosmetics-shampoos, Etc
NSG replied to Lisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Beth and I went through the personal care products yesterday and then went shopping. Finding gluten-free makeup for a 17 year old is NOT fun!!! But, I survived... and she will live without the "cool" stuff... -
ARCHIVED Glutinous Rice Flour
NSG replied to chrissy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have been buying rice flour in the Asian market for years and have been very careful to make sure that it is gluten free. The store I shop at has both. I've only made the mistake once and my daughter got very sick. Never again! -
Had a great day yesterday! First day that I was able to eat something other than applesauce and plain rice cakes. Then late last night I got sick again. I know that I did not eat anything with gluten - and Beth and I have cleared out all the personal care products that had gluten in them! How long does this take to feel good again! Oh, I have people...

ARCHIVED How Many: Blood Tests Negative, But Celiac Or Gluten Sensitive?
NSG replied to Mmom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Blood work for both me and my daughter were negative - but after 16 years on a gluten-free diet - what else would they be! The slightest bit of gluten makes her sick and I am just getting over a full blown attack after an accidential ingestion. That's enough proof for me! -
ARCHIVED Do You Trust Amy's?
NSG replied to Carriefaith's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Have had no problems with Amy's frozen food as long as it's the gluten-free stuff - Amy's make products with gluten. I have never tried the canned chili though. The Mac and Cheese and Cheese Enchilidas are great! -
ARCHIVED Cosmetics-shampoos, Etc
NSG replied to Lisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So - for 17 years I have been poisoning my daughter - and myself! This is nuts!! We just went through everything in the house - a big job for with a teenager. Does anyone have any ideas for "cool" nail-polish, eye shadow, and scented hand lotion? -
ARCHIVED Aching Muscles - What's It All About?
NSG replied to covsooze's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Does the Gluten Free diet help anyone with these symthoms? Are they less severe since starting the diet? I was diagnosed with RA and spend 7 years on NASIDS, then they said it was fibromyalgia and more drugs, then migraines and more drugs, etc... I went on the gluten-free diet last year for the migraines and everything cleared up after 4-6 months...
