  1. A probiotic promotes the growth of beneficial microorganisms in your gut. These then help with digestion. Dr. Cynthia Rudert of Atlanta says she recommneds probiotics for ALL new celiac patients. The one she named is Culturelle but I'm sure the folks at a natural foods store can help with others. richard
  2. Of course I can't tell you for sure what's going on, but I can tell you that feeling bad for three weeks and symptoms getting worse after what might have been no more than contamination is HIGHLY unusual. Most people wouldn't react to a small exposure for more than a couple of days (yes, I know there are exceptions -- I've had people tell me they react for...
  3. Annatto does not have gluten. Because of distilling, vinegar shouldn't be a problem unless it's malt vinegar (yes, I know, some people still dispute this). Caramel coloring is either never or virtually never a problem. I've heard there's some slight chance of gluten if it's made outisde the U.S. Maybe there is artificial flavoring with gluten but it would...
  4. To determine oif the Kraft dressing is gluten-free, just read the ingredients. They will clearly list gluten. richard
  5. Lecithin is derived from soybeans, NOT wheat. It is gluten-free. richard
  6. Fatigue is actually THE most common sympton among adults. It certainly sounds like it COULD be celiac disease. But if you want accurate tests or biopsy you need to be eating gluten to get that. richard
  7. I guess any product could have contamination, but the Bell & Evans, of all brands, is most certainly gluten-free. I've never checked on the Walmart brand but I have checked on Perdue, Tyson, Kroger, Food Lion, Wampler, Bell & Evans, and at least two others I can't think of now and none have had gluten. Perdue has a very long list of gluten-free...

It's my understanding that while the Wendy's fries are gluten-free, not every single restaurant richard has a dedicated fryer. You have to ask. And remember that even at the best restaurants, contamination is always a risk.
  9. As the others said, eliminate all gluten. Period. Research has shown that even low-level exposure increases the risks of cancer and other problems. Both you and the child will make enough mistakes that gluten exposure will occur anyway. BTW, you don't necessarily need special vanilla. I went out and bought health food store, "gluten-free," expensive vanilla...
  10. If you're going to this GI for further celiac testing you need to continue eating gluten for accurate results.
  11. I don't know that this site completely explains the gluten in flavorings situation, but it looks like to me that wheat cannot be hidden in "flavorings" in meat and poultry. Every check I've ever made on plain meat would seem to bear this out. Open Original Shared Link

You can print out PF Chang's gluten-free menu from their web site. It's under cuisine. The only one I've been to also had it printed out. Some PF Chang's might stick strictly to that menu, but the reality is that most of their menu items can be made gluten-free. I know people who have had the lettuce wraps even though they're not on the list. In many cases...
  13. I'm not as healthy as I need to be but my insurance, while sometimes a pain in the rear, covers a lot. When I got sick and was hospitalized for 11 days with what was finally discovered to be celiac, my total bills came to nearly $40,000. I paid about $300 out of pocket. I have to wonder whether a person without insurance would have just died.
  14. Even when adding gluten-free expenses to other medical expenses I don't come close. I don't have that many gluten-free expenses because I rarely buy the stuff, but even if I did I'd have to buy thousands of dollars worth. richard
  15. Movie popcorn without the topping is most certainly gluten-free. If you want the topping the trick is to find out what your theater uses. Flavacol is the msot commonly used topping and it is gluten-free. richard

Do oyu have Outback or PG Chang's? Also McDonald's and Wendy's. richard
  17. I must disagree about hidden gluten in meats. Every single chicken, turkey, and pork I've personally checked on has been gluten-free and so has every one I've seen others check on. I'm talking about plain meats, not ones that have been marinated or glazed or stuffed. They do add a lot of flavor enhancers and moisteners, but the "broths" are always made either...
  18. Actually, the medical expenses threshhold is 7.5 percent, not 7 percent. Personally, I would hire a tax expert before trying this. This specific deduction has NEVER been approved by the IRS and the IRS HAS specifically ruled against letting overweight people deduct diet food. The reality is that we don't need special expensive gluten-free food to be gluten...
  19. I'm fairly sertain that excessive bruising can be a sign of some definciency or even other health issues. If this continues you need to get it checked out. richard
  20. I'm simply quoting all the top celiac experts I've ever read or heard, Fasano, Green, Rudert and others -- the gluten must be ingested and hit the intestines to cause the antibody reaction. And gluten molecules are too large to be absorbed through the skin. I tend to believe them.
  21. I'd like to say respectfully that the doctor in this post is wrong. You cannot absorb gluten through your skin or your vagina.
  22. According to scientists and to virtually all of the major celiac groups, distilled vinegar is gluten-free no matter what the source because the distilling removes the poison. In addition, almost NO vinegars are made from wheat. You'd have to search hard to find a product made from wheat distilled vinegar.
